Here in Brazil that whistle when you lift off is known as "pente na turbina", kinda like an obstruction, people around the truck community loves this shit. Sounds nasty in a good way lol

Bru, you need some power. Strap an air filter, hybrid turbo, intercooler and hard pipes kit on and get it mapped.....THEN check out the sound. Mine pops and bangs n kicks flames 🙂

My '97 Passat had bad welds on downpipe at flange from turbo and it made for an annoying 2500 mile trip (nevermind the exhaust that we smelled and the staining where soot exited hood fender seams). Friend tacked it up best they could but again it fell so I did cat delete. Then winter in Midwest and the only time engine would reach normal temp was cruising. I could watch the temp gauge lower at speeds below 40 and drop at a stop light. Fuel economy also dropped from 38mpg combined to 22ish. Summer came and fuel econ returned. Also the salt ate the cheap "test" pipe. Not smelling good in car; there is enough turbulence behind the engine that exhaust was coming into engine bay then thru vents .... diesel fumes make me hxoxrxnxy have a headache on long trips. Finally in 2005, I hear of another TDIer with shop. He just bought tooling for exhaust. We installed cat for 6cyl gasser (he only had cats for gas). Then installed 2.5 pipe cat back and a nice down turn shaved off that looked very similar to single version of factory. I don't get the turbo spool sounds you have when driving which can be fun. As a matter of fact I barely hear turbo and egr cycling when standing behind car. City / hiway econ back to 38.5; 45mpg at 95mph average speed. 51mpg at 55mph. Performance factor: more fun to drive adding the sense of hearing it! - But without other mods like bigger fuel injectors, turbo, chip, clutch etc, you are only going to beat another TDI that hasn't had a mufflerectomy. Brief fun fact: there were harmonic vibrations caused by exhaust in the Jettas. Ferdinand Piëch said it was NOT going to USA till fixed because NOTHING is to remind Americans of the Rabbit diesel. My 2002 TDI Jetta ALH Turbo whistle is a bit louder than yours and the "Blowoff" sound is about the same. Mine was an Automatic trans but I swapped it about 2 years ago to a 5 speed manual... 52.75 mpg on my last long trip. 329,000 miles and runs like a bear ! Best car I have ever owned.. No Wonder The USA wants to Ban them ! *FJB !*

Was laughing right alone hearing the "blow off" whir. LOL. I tried a CAT delete on my 01 beetle ALH, but decided to re-cat it. I used a prefab adapter pipe so I did not have to cut up anything. Why did I abandon the CAT delete? On the fun side, ya, sounded a lot like yours there, but I could not stand the stink from the exhaust. The cat does work! After it gets HOT, especially after a run on the interstate, I can go back to the tail pipe and there is no diesel stink! Almost like the newest generation diesels, nearly smell just hot air! If you run car hard, and then get out and smell stinky exhaust, maybe the cat's bad IMO. Glad you kids had fun doing that!

Do EGR delete, vac pipe simplification leave the actuators in place to not throw up codes, cold air feed, K@N panel filter in standard air box, upgrade the inter cooler to hard pipe kit, PD150 Turbo from Europe and a remap it’s a different car all cheap to do. I run a PD130 👍

My VW bora pd130 has a 2.5 full custom stainless steel system all way through with no cat just sounds like the exhaust is blowing only decated it as just put a 1856 hybrid turbo and new it would get hot ,

The "cooo" turbo stutter is better than "stututu" sound for my opinion.

My tdi is manual catless and tuned with a cold air intake but I do not get the high end spool that you get. Is yours egr deleted ? Also if anyone has any insight lmk. I am going to delete it soon and I’m wondering if it will sound like this. Thanks

Sometimes I miss that vnt15 sound whistling at idle, now with my vnt17 I get none of that and just a deep burring sound instead (still sounds cool) but that whistle definitely makes people go wtf

I have known and heard that diesel engine cars are very safe and cheap TDI diesel engines you can hear the turbo spool my First car is going to be a TDI or TSI and I'm going to put Nitrous Nos in my Volkswagen when I'm 18 or 19 Volkswagen beats everything

Do a true downpipe and after that just piece back your old exhaust. Best 250 I spent on my car. Delete the egr as well and the alh will go forever!

I straight piped my A7 TDI. It’s loud but not crazy loud like you said. I don’t know if it’s the turbo. I’m starting to believe that diesel’s just can’t go crazy loud. I hope i’m wrong

Its a combo of the turbo and it being a diesel why its quiet.

I wish mine sounded like this. Mine is straight piped with a glass pack in order to pass inspection and it is louder but now you can barely hear turbo.
