As a member of the UK eos forum I see nothing but great comments about this guy. Followed this video and I must say it has made the sunroof alot smoother. Great how too,and thanks for sharing

Do you have a video on what to use on the rubber seals and how to keep from rubber cracking. I live in hot sunny climate and worried about rubber cracking and leaks.

Thansk for the video and getting ready to do this. Here in the states, the cleaner/degreaser is difficult to find.. but also.. what is the difference in the grease part number you show here and G00045002? Can’t seem to find anything online other than that they’re both VW sunroof grease.

Hi Recommend to use the exact grease as per the video Febi 31942. As it's specific for plastic on metal.

lithium is good for metals as for plastic and rubber its disintegrates it

Thanks for the lovely video. Very helpful. After the sunroof rail lubrication, it has ironically developed a bit of a grunty squeak every time the sunroof lifts up - especially when it changes position from fully open to vent-only positions. The rest of the time when it is simply sliding, no sounds. But when it lifts, it just squeaks loudly. Also, in the vent-only position, as the car drives and gently goes up and down on bumps or rough roads, the same squeak. Only on the left side. I have tried and tried to locate the part or surfaces causing it and have liberally sprayed the white lithium grease to no avail. Any help, please? Thank you kindly.

Please do not use lithium grease for the seals. The seals must be cleaned very well and then treated with KRYTOX. The way it is explained in the video is not correct in my opinion. The squeaking can be from the seal if the grease is stuck, or from a sliding block that may be worn.

Hi , thank you so much for your tips . Sorry that I have a rookie question . Would I be okay to apply generic WD 40 White lithium grease spray to the rail ? And I assume the GT85 is kind of an equivalent to WD 40 original ?

Hi Khurrum. A question please. At about 3:40 in this video underneath where you're greasing the inside of the sunroof there is a spring looking mechanism which looks like the running cables for the sunroof. Do we need to lubricate those with anything or is that related to what you sprayed the GT85 at earlier in the video at 1:35? Thanks, Paul

I live in the Southwestern desert area of the US, I would be/am concerned about sand and dust contamination. So how often and how much grease should be used here? Please advise, or should I check with the VW facility where I get my Eos serviced?

Firstly Thank-you very much for your video, but i have a question. I followed your guide a couple of days ago (slightly different as used spray-on white lithium grease). Today I went to VW for something else and a technician come out to see the car, he commented that i should not of put the grease on the side parts of the sunroof (3:10 on your video) as when opening the sunroof, the grease will get in-between the seals that slides back into, and it will damage the rubber, is this true? Not meant negatively, genuinely asking. TiA.

Hi Thanks for message So firstly strongly recommend to use the grease I use as it is specific for nylon on metal and different to general lithium grease (also called up in parts catalogue) I do see a point of not putting it on the sides / rubber contamination. But the question is what is the lesser of 2 evils? We see a lot of EOS's being scrapped due to sunroof failures as opposed to seal failures. Yes the sunroofs do have a Dry Unlubricated insert but it also wears excessively. My view: Clean lubricate and protect seals with Krytox, wipe off the excess sunroof grease off the seals. I wish more VW mechanics were as passionate and proactive as this one, if they were they would lubricate these sunroofs properly and educate the owners as opposed to all the failures we see today All the best

I have concerns: This febi grease is for pressing home plastic bushings in brake assemblies, even at VW - where did the recommendation to use for sunroofs come from? VW? Lithium grease dries out and I would expect it to cake up mechanism over time, like the old grease at the very start of the video. Surely something like Wurth HHS 2000 would be a better choice? Why this product? Is the sunroof slow at the start because previously applied lithium grease has caked up the mechanism, relieved when you add new grease? VW do a special sunroof lubricant, but the part number is not this, its G 000 450 02.

The Febi grease is VW G052150A2 where A2 is the size of the container This is what is called up on the VW parts catalogue for the sunroof We recommend cleaning and regreasing every 6 month We will stick to the manufacturers recommendations however not denying there maybe other suitable products on the market

You can use that however we recommend GT85 as it doesn't dry up

Please refer to the parts catalogue Krytox is for the seals it is a rubber conditioner The grease is for the sunroof If your seals are well lubricated you will not need to put grease on the sides of the sunroof, but you must lubricate the channel

Krytox 105 is only for rubber seals Not sunroof
