hey Thomas great eeview once again, please note bottle opener is also used as a dividing bracket for drinks area so you can fit two bottles without it flying around :) cant wait to see a new generation of this model...that is, if there is any with vw's current situation... great review as always!!

that bottle opener at the beverage holder could be used as a bottle holder as well. you just slide it in the middle of the storage and it will hold hold your bottle/can tighter. it was already delivered from 2005 in the mark 5 golf/jetta

here in Brazil, in the 90's, VW used the term GTI and GTS. some cars, like the Gol, had both. the GTI was the sport version, and the GTS was like the GTI but with some innovation technologies

Diese Auto ist ein Traum! Fahre ihn nun seit zwei Wochen! Für mich ist es der schönste VW auf dem Markt und das sportlichste erschwinglichste Fahrzeug allgemein! Dieses Design! Diese Felgen! Dieses Fahrgefühl!! Kann es absolut nicht verstehen warum er sich nicht verkauft hat und eingestellt wurde... sowas müsste doch bei jungen Erwachsenen weggehen wie geschnitten Brot, stattdessen kaufen alle diesen buckligen Golf (GTI)...

Ich liebe den Scirocco auch total, fand ihn erst hässlich als ich ihn das 1. Mal gesehen habe, aber nach und nach habe ich mich immer mehr in das Design verliebt. Ich fahre aktuell einen Corsa E und werde mir wohl im März/April einen gebrauchten Scrirocco holen, damit ich noch in den Genuss kommen kann, verstehe auch nicht wieso der eingestellt wird... echt traurig :( Ich überlege entweder den Scrirocco GTS oder den R zu holen je nachdem wie der Preis ausfällt am Ende. Wie zufrieden bist du aktuell mit dem GTS?

I think this car looks really nice exterior wise with the R package. But I still miss some bad-ass LED dayrunners to make a killer look. Sad. A small diffuser & the rear bottom would have also been EPIC :) :)

They didn't make the scirocco R with 4WD because VW didn't want Golf R enthusiasts to move away from golf to scirocco, as the golf R was their main seller

Now Thomas, you should know the sound of a VW engine is usually enhanced by the soundaktor under the bonnet :) from the outside it still sounds boring. also the question asked about the steering wheel shape is not a problem. it is rare for your hands to move from their normal driving position because of adaptive variable steering, only in parking and at slow speed will full turns of the wheel be needed and then the flat bottom comes into play. i thought it would feel strange but i find myself holding the corners of the flat area during the rotation and it is quite comfortable, safe and natural.

I gotta agree. Expat American living here in the UK and I was so stoked when I first saw these new Scirocco’s here. I got myself a GTS Gtd version and it’s sick af. I absolutely love it. Had an MK5 GTI for years back in Philly and loved it. Still don’t get why they don’t sell it across the pond. It would sell well. But we have a few models of dubs here which don’t sell In the US. More than a few.

Info tidbit for you, Thomas... In western Canada: 1) U-turn at a traffic light is illegal. 2) right turn at a red light is permitted (after stopped and safe to do so). I know VW Canada sales force are constantly being asked to bring back the Scirocco! It was sold here into the 1990s. My buddy had the original Giugiaro designed Scirocco when it was released in the 1970s. Great car!

+Patricio Villar well they are similar, its rather about styling, as in a4 and a5. Just note that scirocco is golf6 while golf is golf7 ;)

the styling is disappointing :)) the scirocco looks stunning anyway but those two thin lines are out of place by a long shot... is that all they could come up with to differentiate the GTS?

The rear design is very atttractive and distinctive. If they can achieve the same thing at the front. Add 2 more doors with a less powerful engine with high torque to bring down the price then this car will sell. Most people want just want the sporty look and a high quality interior at a affordable price.

Good review! I'm not a big fan of the scirocco. In my opinion the exterior design is a little bit strange und looks old compared with other three-door hatchbacks (for example the Seat Leon). Actually the scirocco is based on the Golf V. Especially after dieselgate i think the scirocco has no future.

This is like a sexier better Hyundai Veloster. And the Veloster is selling like hotcakes in the states. VW is really missing out on the sports coupe market over here. The beetle r line is the closest thing we have to this, but it’s a beetle.

Bei dem Review werden bei mir Erinnerungen wach. Hatte einne Scirocco R von 2011 bis 2012 und habe das Auto geliebt. Hat leider auch gesoffen wie ein Loch. Von daher bin ich auch etwas von Deiner Beschreibung bzgl. der Unterschiede GTS und R enttäuscht. Evtl. mag es von 0 - 100 km/h nicht der riesen Unterschied sein, immerhin eine Sek., aber von 0 - 200 km/h trennt sich die Spreu vom Weizen. Und dann spielt auch der Frontantrieb keine Rolle mehr. Und zur Info noch mal die Unterschiede vom GTI/GTS und R Motor. Modifiziert wurden Turbolader, die Kolben, die Einspritzung und der Zylinderkopf. Hätte mir diesbezüglich eine genauere Erklärung gewünscht. VG

+K lemmchen Hi, ich hab den 180PS Motor, weißt du zufällig wieviel auf den 220PS Motor verändert wurde da ich über eine Softwareoptimierung nachdenke.

Kleiner Nachtrag. Die Zusatzinstrumente kamen zuerst mit dem neuen Beetle, das Navi (DiscoverMedia) ist keine Golf6-Plattform, sondern der neue MIB2, der auch im G7 vorhanden ist und die Klima ist nur Standard. Die empfehlenswertere 2-Zonen Climatronic ist optional und sieht darüber hinaus auch noch besser aus.

+K lemmchen Ja das MIB2 hab ich drin, die Climatronic auch, nur den 220PS Motor nicht :D Den gibts auch nicht bei uns in Österreich momentan. Es ist auch sehr schwer was zu finden über den 180PS Motor, rein vom Gefühl her, denke ich mir einfach der Turbo hat da noch nicht viel zu tun, da es viele 2.0 Liter Motoren ohne Turbo mit bis zu 165PS gibt ^^ Ich kämpfe momentan eher damit, dass ich App-Connect vergessen habe und die Händler rumzicken weil sie nicht genau wissen ob ich das nachträglich aktivieren kann, obwohl ich es auswählen kann aber nen Aktivierungschlüssel brauche ^^

I love the design of the car so I went to the dealer to try one. After 10 minutes inside trying to find a comfortable driving position I gave up. I am 1.81m tall and it was impossible for me to see something outside and sit comfortable. The visibility is awful in this car. Front visibility is blocked by thick A pillars, lateral visibility blocked by very high window seals and tiny rear windows and in the back simply there is no visibility because of the small window in combination with the rear seats. Totally unusable for me.

I love the look of the Scirocco, but the sensible side says the Golf GTI is the better choice. Backup camera extra cost? C'mon VW, these cameras are dirt cheap. I love the VW beer bottle opener. "For those times when you just want to open all the windows, sit back for a comfortable country cruise and enjoy an adult beverage of choice." (WARNING: Drinking and driving is short lasted. If caught, a morgue, hospital and/or jail are in your future.)

I understand. This Scirocco actually shares the same engine as the North American Jetta GLI. I just watched your Scirocco R video in hope to see the engine bay. Its a total mystery to me if its a Gen3 TSI like the GTS or if its an EA113 like always.

JustDoge Gaming My original 200bhp Scirocco with a £450 remap matched the 260bhp for pace so I'd assume the same would be true for these 230bhp models vs 280bhp. The R was still better looking though.

Unsere Website für ausführliche Hintergrundinformationen machen wir auf Deutsch.Die Videos laufen über KZfaq und erreichen ein internationales Publikum, sehr viele Zuschauer aus USA, Deutschland, Großbritannien, Japan, Russland und weitere aus über 100 Ländern der Welt. Darum sind die meisten unserer Videos auf Englisch. Die meisten deutschen Videozuschauer verstehen auch Englisch, aber fast alle anderen verstehen kein Deutsch. Insofern ist es nur logisch, die Videos auf Englisch anzubieten, was auch sehr gut ankommt.Wir würden uns freuen, wenn du auf Deutsch unsere Text-Berichterstattung verfolgst und auch hier unsere englischen Videos. If vw don't bring this car to the u.s, it will be the biggest mistake the company has ever made. I'd buy this car 1,000 times over. I'm about to get the golf r but I'd rather have this, well the r version

Danny Denihan Jr They won't bring this one, it's a decade old design. It still looks good though, IMO one of the best looking hatchbacks of all time- better still without all those facelift fake vents.

Well, bad news because the production of this Scirocco it will end in 2018. Is not even possible to command a new model in the majority of european countries. Scirocco mk4? Not in their plans...for now. :/

A Golf GTI is only slightly more expensive. I don't know who in his own mind would choose the Scirocco over the Golf.

+pitthepig Well you got the sportier look, that's why. The Golf you pick if you want it more comfortable and handy for every day driving

+roxoleto Na thats not true, you probably noticed in some reviews which cars I like more on a personal level and which more on a professional level. I am not emotionally connected to German cars, but the look and feel is usually better, thats why you get that impression maybe

+Yassine Idbelaid German interiors are generally boring, the exception being Audi. For some reason they find the interior less important than all the engineering under the hood.

I understand that but this one is really the worst it is dated ugly and too glossy. I love German cars interiors .not too flashy maybe a little bit boring but looks good in real life but not this one

Yassine Idbelaid I kinda agree, but I would take a Mazda interior over any german one. Maybe except for the infotainment. It might not be as well built, but at least it's not boring to look at. I mean... You sit in a car, it's impossible not to look at your interior from time to time.

Mazda interior looks like the new audi interior. Simple and elegant. I agree about the infotainment system

Yassine Idbelaid I have other issues with Audi (price in my country mainly), that's why I said Mazda. Also Audi drivers have a really bad reputation in my country. Mainly because they are expensive (just like Mercedes and BMW), so only spoiled, rich people buy them and most of the time they drive like jerks. It might not be the same in all countries, but we earn half as much money as Germans for example.
