The song opens with fear of the Lord, the opening crescendo giving way to an interaction between an angry God and a fearful soul, with the terrible power of God represented by an entire chorus of thundering voices as the lost soul cries out for mercy in fearful soprano. And then the music softens, reflecting the mercy and unforsaking love of Jesus Christ. And then we hear the soprano again, no longer crying out in fear but now singing in humble adoration as the soul is transformed by the grace of God. A chorus of angels join in adoration, culminating in the most sublime moment as the soul ascends to Heaven. Now once again we witness the power of God from the soul's perspective, no longer terrible and fearful but now full of awe and adoration as the soul joins the Father in eternal harmony. Absolutely beautiful.

Fun fact to show and tell: Although the format is familiar, Mozart wrote this specifically for the visit of his father (and sister), who did not approve of his marriage to Constanze. She is appealing to Leopold for mercy, not Jesus. Now that's clever. How does it sound now?

The Salieri character in that movie is so relatable... When asked about a "suitable teacher" for the Emporer's niece, after it's been made clear that W. Mozart is the man first in line, he most wryly and shrewdly replies: "My concern, your highness, is to protect your majesty from any 'hint' of favouritism..." Emporer Joe: "mm-hmm.. Well, there it is." Mozart: if his majesty desires my services, why does he not simply appoint me to the position? Count Orsini-Rosenberg: "You're not the ONLY composer in Vienna." Mozart: "No, but I'm the best." C. O-R. : "My dear Mozart; a little humility might suit you better... If you want to be considered for this position, you must submit your stuff, along with your colleagues." Mozart: "Must I?" C.O-R.: "mm-hmm" Mozart; "well, I won't." Fuck yeah! I love that character.

@@finallywoken13 Although Leopold was settled in Salzburg, young Wolfgang wanted the bright lights of Vienna. Whilst there, he took lodgings with the Weber family and fell in love with their daughter Constanze. Wolfie asked his dad for permission to marry, but Leo refused. But what can you do when you're young and in love? Under pressure from her folks, they married without Leo's blessing - a serious disrespect from Wolfie. Time to make amends. Wolfie wrote this mass and returned to Salzburg and invited Leo to the performance. Can you imagine - to the man in the street, it's "just" a Mozart mass with a soprano solo asking "Christe Eleison" (Christ, have mercy), but the hidden subtext is Wolfie, via Constanze, asking his dad for mercy.

Back when the film was released there was some talk about how Mozart's music was not eligible for an Oscar. Mozart's music was used as the score of the film and was a big part of the films success. However what was pointed out was the category was best "original" score while Mozart's music was adapted for the film. The Amadeus soundtrack went on to become the best selling classical album and Mozart replaced Beethoven as the favorite classical composer in America.

This interpretation is beautiful. The singer uses vibrato how it should be used: it is to be used to elevate the beauty of the tone. Not every note has to be modulated for it is the beauty of the clean melody in sync with the orchestra that defines this piece as one of mozart's finest.

I'm 14 and I love Mozart and this piece... I don't know why in our days peoples can listening to trap, rap or whatever. Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin... This music is beautiful and pure genial. Greetings form Poland for Mozart and all of his fans.

What the hell are you talking about? The exact opposite is true. I was born and raised into the "classical music" world so to speak, and I don't know a single experienced, classical music admirer who praises Mozart above all others. Bach? Yes... Mozart? Doubtful... Beethoven? Never. Mozart and Beethoven seem to be far more popular with people who "just" got into classical music, mostly because those are the only two names they know. I think you are 100% wrong, to be honest with you.

@@DoctorDewgong hmm not sure really. I don't think this composition had liturgical use tbf. Personally I like it, but yeah some compositions (Verdi's Requiem is one I feel) are a bit too grand and more of an exercise in awe of the musical achievement rather than the true purpose. I find Bach and Handel and earlier composers usually the best for this theme tbh.
@DoctorDewgong
@DoctorDewgong 2 жыл бұрын
@@MidnightIsolde I'm sure it had liturgical use at some point. His requiem, for example, was used at both Napoleon and Chopin's funeral masses
