Relive the quarterfinal thriller between Canada and Costa Rica with these highlights! 🙌
On Saturday evening, fans saw a rematch of the Group Stage, with Canada and Costa Rica sharing the pitch once again at BMO Stadium for the first Quarterfinal match of the 2024 Concacaf W Gold Cup and the Canadians getting a 1-0 win in extra time.
After a 3-0 win over the Ticas to secure a first-place finish in Group C and the top of the table in the overall standings, Canada wanted to keep their momentum going, beginning with FW Jordyn Huitema getting the ball in the 2' in the área and the ball going wide.
Costa Rica's counterattack was dangerous, but the last effort of the first half came from Canada in the 45'+4 when tournament top scorer FW Adriana Leon, with Solera out of position, tried to chip the ball in, only for DF Valeria Del Campo to clear the ball off the line.
Costa Rica kept plugging away and nearly scored a late winner when Chinchilla put the ball in the box for MF Alexa Herrera, who shot toward goal, but saw Canada GK Kailen Sheridan barely block the ball out with her foot.
Sheridan's counterpart, Costa Rica GK Daniela Solera was the star of the match for Las Ticas, making six saves in the game, and after 90 minutes, the score was still 0-0, sending the first quarterfinal match to extra time.
The decisive momento came in the first half of extra time, beginning with Canada Captain and MF Jessie Fleming chipping the ball into the area from a free kick in the 103' and FW Evelyne Viens getting her header past Solera to give the Canadians the 1-0 advantage.
Costa Rica fought hard to pull one back and take the game to penalties, but the defensive line of Canada cleared their lines until the final whistle. With this result, Canada is the first team that has qualified for the Semifinals of the 2024 W Gold Cup.

Lamentable la falla que tuvo al 90+2 la "delantera" de Costa Rica. Le deberían de haber dado «pamba con picahielo» ¡Esas no se pueden fallar! ( Bueno, es un decir, porque ya vimos que sí ). En el minuto 108, a la portera de Canadá le llega un balón bombeado y cuando la atrapa no sabe si tirase al suelo con el balón ( para hacer tiempo ) o continuar. Y se vio muy chistosa su reacción ( es como si supiera que si se tiraba al suelo se iba a ver muy ridícula, pues no era una atrapada que ameritara tirarse al suelo ). 🤪

esa falla fue tremenda, me recordó al Costa Rica vs Japón, cuando CR gano con un solo tiro a marco... lo bonito y a veces cruel del futbol.

Qué partido más malo... en el gol de canadá la márca pésima y la portera no sale. En vista de que siempre ganarán una disputa aérea, pues la portera tiene que salir siempre no quedarse en el área chica. PURAMENTE Kevin Chamorro!

@@semerendocr Bueno, yo empecé a ver el partido a partir del minuto 77 ( Que es donde se puso mejor ) y cuando vi la jugada que comentas, la verdad, fue tan rápida que ni yo viéndola desde la pantalla note cuál de las dos le había cabeceado al balón 04:04 . No quiero imaginar qué no vio la arquera. ( Aclaro: viéndola en tiempo real. Porque ya en la repetición, y después de saber que es gol, obviamente sabes cómo fue todo. )
