Replacing the Automatic Transmission Gearbox mount on a W204 C-Class Mercedes D.I.Y at home.
Torque setting for 16mm bolts - 50nm and for the 13mm bolts 25nm

Thanks for posting this mate, I’m about to tackle this job myself now instead of paying mechanic. Update! Got it done easy as, it helped I had rattle gun to tackle the 16mm nuts ,

Just took my car in for a service and was told the same, the rear mounting has started to sag. Will get a new one when I collect the car later today. First DIY job for 2024 😂

Guys you may not believe just had a recall for an airbag fault also a w204 saloon . I was told today the gear box is dropped. Quoted me to 460 quid. I found a part online for 50. I subscribed to your channel. Im a hands on my self. Wish me luck 🙏

@@mrix very well done mate for doing the job with minimal space. I have a question. I get vibration felt through the bottom at about 2000 rpm and light vibration and rumble sometimes on idle. Could this be symptoms of it? Did you have anything like this? Thanks

Critical bolts like the large 16mm ones are often non reusable because they are ‘torque to yield’ which means they are deliberately stretched on installation. Need to check with your Merc spare parts desk when ordering the mount.

I was not aware of that, I have not seen anywhere that suggests replacing the bolts with New etc, the torque is only 50nm which does not seem enough to pre-stretched etc ? also the main load will be mainly distributed on the rubber ?

Hi a wuestion : ( i have the same Car , but i have a big noises ob coldstart under the transmission when the transmission is over 80 grad it is not more noisy is that the issue what u have too ? and i have a vibration on 30 - 50kmh : ( Please a tip : (

When I had my sub-frame checked by the official they noted it needed a Gearbox mount as it had dropped down a little, to be honest my car runs no different regarding vibration, I was hoping for better noise reduction, you however may have a much worst vibration than me, I think my situation is main engine mounts.... anyway please drop but when you find out what your specific problems was, all the best of luck...mrix

I have recently had a rattle start in my c220, it feels like it coming from the gearbox area rattles more when i put it into reverse, any help be much appropriated

It can be difficult to workout where these rattles come from and I suppose most of the time its a case of process of a elimination etc... I obviously replaced my gearbox mount shown through this video but it never really got shot of some of my rattles, I am learning more towards the main engine mounts... all the very best.... mrix

@mrix I found out it was the exhaust bracket that's just under the back seats that was causing it but I loved the video it'll come in handy one day

Did you have any symptoms before they told you? Mines going in for its airbag on 23rd and I think mine could have the same issue

Hi Jack, to be honest my car does vibrate a bit on tick over so I was hoping this might of been the issue but to be honest the mount replacement never made any difference, I think maybe the engine mounts need replacing... however I am glad I replaced them as it can cause damage at great expense to the drive shaft.... mrix

@@iyxec Hi and thank you for the post. My 2012 C350 had some rattle before shifting gears. There was some exhaust rattle too. And it also had a humming noise in 6th gear around 1500 RPM. After watching this video, I replaced the transmission mount, all the issues are resolved.

Hello, I have had a rumbling on the engine for quite some time and it was possible to be the transmission mount, after fitting the New mount it never fixed the rumble so I can only assume now its likley more to be the main front engine mounts, however I am pleased to of changed transmission as it was worn etc..... mrix

@@mrix was the rumbling at any given time. I have a 1 at about 1500 Rev sometimes

Hi, its mainly when starting off in low gears so could be around 1500 revs, even the tick over when waiting at a stop creates vibration, when travelling along a motorway everything is perfectly find and smooth, I will need to do the engine mount check whereby you place the car in gear at standstill while pressing the brake and gently increase the accelerator etc to see if there is movement with the engine.

@@mrixif there is any vibration at idle that goes away when you are driving it will definitely be either one or both of the front engine mounts....I had mine done and honestly it was like a brand new car afterwards.... Silky smooth idle, really satisfying job
