Respect all the way from Texas !! Carolinian showing some love !! 💯👊🏽 Must Pass down tradition to the youth due we won’t be around forever ! My bucket list is go down to the Marshall Islands and learn how to build their style of canoe. Bc I strongly believe Carolinian canoes style making are meant for voyage. As for Marshallese they are for speed. Correct me if I’m wrong or have any input on what was said. Showing love and support to the Marshall Islands !

Iakwe! By all means go for it you'll love the ancient kingdom. As an novice anthropologist I'm just one of many people who're documenting our culture and history.Sacred stuff that must be preserved. But yeah we actually have canoes for both long voyages and speed.Wā-Lap(Great canoes) were those used in voyages/Tipnõl(Wave stumbler) is used for speed.

After the German left the islands to the Japan( authorities) military forbid the natives from sailing from islands to islands. It destroyed all continuity of traditional voyager knowledge. Sad truth is nobody know or mentions anything about it. It will take a brave local to restart the lost tradional inter islands voyages. Good luck!

Eram6jina Libenidrok Have you not heard about master Korent Joel? Being well known in the kingdom as a great navigator he was brave enough to break ancient law of secrecy.Reached out to many individuals in hopes of preserving the dying tradition. He managed to convince and bring other navigators/canoe builders together to further let scientists document their knowledge before the tradition dies out for good.Impeccable timing. Before tragically passing away he successfully helped preserve Marshallese seafaring and he played a pivotal role in it.He's dubbed "Mau Piailug of RMI". His cousin Alson Kelen is a director for Waan aelon kein(Canoes of Marshall Islands.) Located in Majuro the establishment offers tourist and natives alike who wish to learn the seafaring tradition.

@@islandguy6928 Hi Sir Iakwe yes the island Chains actually have more than one paramount chiefs or chieftess there’s no single kingdom. Ruling over few or one islands. For Mr Joel ocean knowledge were almost complete when the pacific wars interfere with young training but he had the rare knowledge of waves piloting. Oh yes you can learn the current and waves in that small sea. It just takes time and preserve. I’m live on east coast and work here in the United States. Congratulations on your new outrigger boat thanking you for promoting the multihull in the famous historic Creeks islands and coastal scenery.

Eram6jina Libenidrok Most of what you just said is complete bs.Are you native Marshallese? If not it's best to keep shut for things you don't know about. Yes our islands underwent inter clans wars disputing family tensions, desire to conquer lands,or other reasons. There was at one time a United Kingdom under a chief and his name was Tobinwa who declared war on the whites he managed to unite us all but sadly was short lived. Incomplete navigation.Says who? Despite wars with one another this tradition lived on that had no impact on it since it was carefully safeguarded amonsts Rimeto Jowi(Ocean People clan). They were well respected throughout our kingdom so none messed or had any quarrel with them.It is certainly not "unfinished" when most of our techniques are very similar to what Mau Piailug shared with the Polynesians.Like the Yapese (Paafu)Star compass and Marshallese (Bok Iju)Star compass both with same cosmic and mythical lore behind it.

I think Marshallese canoes are the fastest in Micronesia. Kapingamarangi's canoes are pretty fast too. But I don't know if they still use canoes in Kapinga today. Outer islands of Yap and Chuuk canoes are normal; but the fastest one yet could travel up to 11 miles per hour. It's called Aboxy from Houk.
