I left, but didn't actually remove my name. Almost eight years ago. "Bamboozled" didn't do anything for me. I don't believe in LDS, but there are times when I miss the fellowship. I think of going back, but I don't want to be hypocritical by going for the fellowship when I don't believe. I am still a Christian believer, and I have come to understand Christ in a different way (like the Trinity). I understand why many people believe again and go back, and I wish them the best. I wish the best for you and yours.

Being excommunicated is tragic, I have a family member who it happened to and he also came back. People in that circumstance don’t throw away their membership ever again over imperfections of humans in the church, they treasure it! . Yeah, her podcast is sounding the trumpet of people who have left and come back. ❤

Real question: does hiding something, while maybe not the right decision, make the church not true? I hide stuff from my kids all of the time because they're not ready to learn it yet. God keeps things hidden from us all the time. And yet, maybe it was wrong..but thay alone doesn't define the restoration does it? JS still could have received the plates and priesthood. The fruits of this movement seem to suggest that it couldn't have been a sham. Why get so focused on polygamy? Esp when we aren't privy to everything that happened?

@@racealexander1660 they didn’t hide some minor flaw such as JS smoking or drinking after the WoW was revealed, oh wait the church did that. The foundation of the church is very questionable, how can a guy that was taken to court for being a fraud in 1826 be called as a prophet of God just a few years later? How about Joseph Fielding Smith cutting the 1832 first vision account where JS claimed to have seen only Jesus? How about all the changes to the revelations, scriptures, and doctrines that the church now claims were never canonized? The church has systematically lied and hidden its embarrassing history to keep the members in. The internet is putting an end to the church dishonesty.

Hi Kolby. Wade here. I genuinely understand what you're saying. I often think exactly the same way! Can human beings mistake fortunate events and coincidences for miracles? Absolutely. Conversely, can we sometimes explain away or minimize authentic miracles as coincidences? Yep. We can be mistaken both ways, I think. So I have come to believe that it's a choice at just about every turn. Think about the miracles reported in the New Testament. They come to us by way of "believers." No doubt, just like today, there were countless people who chose not believe. Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead? No way - he probably wasn't really totally dead...they just couldn't tell. He turned water into wine? Not possible. They probably just added water to containers that still had some wine in them. And so on. Some people chose to believe - other chose not to believe. I really believe that that gray area is part of our mortal circumstances. It seems there has to be a reasonable opportunity to believe either way to maintain our agency, maybe. I think God provides us just enough to believe, but also, just enough not to believe is we so choose. With respect to my finding work, I had just decided not to limit my perception of the world to my intellectual lens only. I was trying to apply my heart somehow. What made those events convincing to me, in part, was the context and the timing. I had only hours before decided to put God to the test, so to speak. " Ok God, if you're really there and looking out for me, help me now. And here's exactly how you can show me." And He did. Given the circumstances and the deepest desires of my heart, I was powerfully compelled to choose to believe. All that said, I understand your point. You're not wrong!

I now understand that Tithing is an Old Covenant law that was fulfilled, like the old law of not eating pork or shellfish. We are under a New Covenant that leads us to the Second Coming of Christ. This is signified by what happened when Jesus died on the cross--the temple veil was torn in two. The Old Covenant is fulfilled, and the New Covenant is now in effect. I understand that I can't tell anyone else what to believe, but what I read in the NT is that we are now to be Cheerful Givers. There is no numerical demand. The Holy Spirit can move you as to how much you, as an individual, should give.

@@dckpunk6318 I think one of the things you could internalize from Wade's words here is this: [oh, that's a good question. let's get more information.] Not only do you really not know as much as you think you do about Wade and his work, It's embarrassing you don't have the social awareness to stop yourself from saying inappropriate things to children.

An answer to a question is more effective when one does their own work, wrestles with God, and comes to their own resolution. Yes other peoples opinions can be helpful but it is more impactful when you work for it yourself.

If someone has wrestled with the same issue and has valuable information that might help it would be wise to share it with those who might be persuaded to stay before they leave the church.

How interesting. I DO believe The Book of Mormon to be the Word of God. But I too don't condemn those that don't think so. I feel and know God loves his children and all truths and honest desires will be counted for in the end.

The movies aren't very good. But the book is. What are its flaws in your mind?

He was just giving one example of something that made him start to reconsider. Don't forget the promptings he kept having in his head telling him to pay tithing. That's a random thought for an inactive member to have over and over again, isn't it? 100% guarantee that life outside the church is not better than life in. Have you ever felt the spirit so strong that you couldn't bear the thought of it leaving? It's a place of pure joy. And you know it's real because you're literally willing to give up all your sins and imperfections and hand them to God. To have your heart changed by the spirit is a miracle. These things have to be sought with eyes to see, and ears to hear. Broken heart. Humility. God will reveal himself to you in the book of mormon and in sincere prayer if you seek him.

@@racealexander1660 Life outside the church is now going on 4 years vs 26 years in the church and I’m not feeling too much different. It’s all about perspective. I’m still happily married, I don’t drink or smoke, etc. Life in the church couldn’t continue for me because of the doctrinal problems and truth claim challenges. I realize some people can navigate or nuance these but not possible for me. The church taught me that my feelings were a way for me to know the doctrinal truths of the church. After leaving, I discovered that my feelings aren’t always the best way to determine something. How many times have you had a feeling about something and it turned out to mean something different? How many bishops have been called who weren’t supposed to be in that position, etc. How many church prophets change what previous church prophets received by revelation? Were those not strong feelings received by the prior prophets? Once one determines that feelings can mean any number of things, it changes a lot about what we’ve been taught in church classes, on our missions, etc. There’s a video floating out there on KZfaq where people from various faiths testify how their feelings have led them to know the truth about their own beliefs. The church has a lot of control over how we feel about ourselves and our “worthiness” but having stepped back for 4 years now, I can clearly see it. I won’t let any person or institution tell me again what my worth is. We all make mistakes. You call them sins but I don’t anymore because it grants too much control for the institution that shows the path to forgiveness. There’s too many holes in the institution of any church for me to believe they know my eternal destiny or a supposed path that leads to eternal bliss.

Hi Ken. Excellent question. I found that almost nothing can be said that changes a person’s thinking…in the short-term. I remember dismissing just about everything my father had to say to me. That said, I do believe it’s possible to plant seeds that do have an effect down the road if/when a person begins to reconsider. Reconsideration, I believe, only comes from the inside at the individual’s own pace, even if it’s triggered by outside events or trauma. I think this kind of video would have stuck with me out of curiosity at least. I would have been curious how one could possibly be intellectually satisfied with a testimony because that seemed impossible to me at the time. That would have interested me. So that is something I try to communicate - that it is certainly possible to come to a well-reasoned and rational conviction that the Gospel is true (as a supplement to the spiritual witness). My hope is that opens the door, if only out of curiosity, and maybe provides the possibility of a path back to faith. So to answer your question more succinctly, had I seen something like this I would have dismissed it in the short-term but it would also have stuck with me. God bless.

It's not that God doesn't want coffee drinkers. God, who is pure, cannot, by spiritual law, be in the presence of people not living those same laws. It's not that he doesn't want to. It's that they can't abide his presence. He requires a broken heart and contrite spirit that will lead people to accept the atonement, so that they can be forgiven. This requires us to sacrifice our will, i.e., the things we want to do? And replace them with what He wants us to do, including the ordinances. Again, at the end of the day it's not about random actions or commandments. It's about our will to follow God in all things. Those who say, "it's only (coffee, a movie, sex, etc etc)", are basically saying, " I know better. I'll do what I want." And that's obviously an option. Millions of people do it. His sheep don't say that. They say, "I'll do what you want. No matter how big. No matter how small."
