We're changing it up this week with a brand-new WAFER PAPER tutorial! Learn how to make these delicate, life-like Butterfly Ranunculus flowers out of edible paper, right down to the centers and stamens!
For you fellow flower-nerds out there, our flowers in this tutorial are based on a butterfly ranunculus variety called "Ariadne".
Tools & materials needed:
* Wafer paper (we recommend O-grade wafer paper by Oasis Supply)
* Cornstarch and a fluffy brush
* Flat-edged and/or round paintbrushes and a paint palette
* A waterproof work mat, self-healing cutting board, or plastic placemat
* A half-sphere silicone mold, or spoons, an apple tray, or any other curved flower former that you have on hand
* Gel colors (I used Americolor Fuchsia, Xmas Red, and Chocolate Brown, plus Wilton Moss Green)
* Food-grade glycerine
* Water
* 18 g floral wire (any color) and brown or green floral tape
* Needle-nosed pliers and wire cutters
* Foam pad, Dresden tool, and medium/small ball tool
Petal guide:
* Each flower has one center "bud" and a row of fringed stamens
* Larger flowers can have an extra row of fringed stamens
* Each flower has 10-14 petals
* I like to cut petals freehand, in three different sizes -- starting with 1.5" wide strips of wafer paper (see video for details)
