Waggaki band is a 8 members band. They are: Suzuhana Yuko: voice, shigin (traditional japanese poetry), fan dancing, and from time to time, sword dancing. She's also a pianist. Machiya: lead guitar Asa: bass guitar Wasabi: drums Kaminaga Daisuke: shakuhachi (that's the long flute) Ibukuro Kiyoshi: koto (that's the long horizontal harp like instrument) Ninagawa Beni: tsugaru shamisen (often called shamisen, that's the 3 strings instrument that has a sort of banjo sound) Kurona: wadaiko (literally japanese drums) All members are either certified teachers or have won prizes for their instruments. They don't have a fixed style although rock is their main staple. Below are some link with their work (I put only live version, not that studio version aren't good, but this band really shine when on scene). Homura + Akatsuki no ito: 2 titles together, 1st one was written by the lead guitarist for his solo project but adapted to WB. 2nd one is their "anthem" kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ptWeh8V1qbO9mqs.html Senbonzakura (10 thousands cherry blossom): that's the title that made them famous in Japan. Initially a vocaloid song kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qdmodq15va3Go2w.html Yoshiwara lament: initially a vocaloid song written by the bassist, adapted for the band kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bpemepOjvZ61n4U.html Some of their most recent songs from their 2019 album: Queen of the night (more traditional): kzfaq.info/get/bejne/p9mVqtZ9y8CaoZs.html Sun wheel (very rock/metal): kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pJZ7gcSE3quReGQ.html And to show their versatility in style: Synchronicity (very jazzy): kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rbiJibN1sNvVfZ8.html Doppo (very mellow): kzfaq.info/get/bejne/l62eZ895p8mvpX0.html And as you seem to like pop: Appare ga seigi: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ob9_i9Znz7fVemw.html Hana ni nare: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/m5t_mLlpsNmzgIk.html

Thanks a very lot! I'll keep'em in mind (and paper). I've read wadaiko, odaiko, daiko, taiko? Is taiko the "bag" of traditional japanese drums? And -are there different shamisens, hence tsugaru?
@utakuryukko2023
@utakuryukko2023 3 жыл бұрын
@@terjetroll920 I will do my best to answer your questions even if it's a bit off-topic. Taiko is the generic name for drums, all kind of drums, from japanese ones to modern western to djembe and tam-tam. That word is "altered" into Daiko when another syllabe is added before, like in odaiko (o + taiko) or wadaiko (wa + taiko). In these two cases the syllabe is an adjective. O means big so odaiko is big drum, and wa means japanese so japanese drums (and even that is pretty generic as there are many different type of japanese drums). Worth noting that the wa in wadaiko is the same as in wagakki (wa + gakki) which means japanese music. For the shamisen: there are many different type of shamisen, differing in their size and type of play. Tsugaru refers to a style of play that is quite agressive (therefore well adapted to rock), and for that style of play the usual instrument used is the sturdier one called futozao shamisen (thick neck). And the plectrum she is using is called a bachi. As strings were traditionally made from silk, the use of a plectrum is mandatory, otherwise the player would badly cut his/her fingers. Worth noting that Ninagawa Beni is being praised for a renewal of interest in the tsugaru style of playing since she joined Wagakki band. And one last note; japanese names are always written "Last name" 'First name"

@donepearce It looked to be a great show, even BP1 warmed to it as it went along. The traditional instruments really did add the song. If your interested, I did watch a YT video on Ami Lee, recently and all the struggles she had with getting her songs out there. She recently recorded them in a more stripped back style, the way she intended them. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/frtpg7NjmZa1mpc.html The Hidden Battles Behind Evanescence & "Bring Me to Life"

I was lucky to watch Wagakki Band live in Fukushima back in 2019. As others have said here, Senbonzakura is very good. You could also have a look at Homura (1st Japan Tour 2015)

They are both good suggestions, but Homura gives a good overview of what they can do. There is the nice instrumental section mixing rock and traditional, than there is a nice singing section with lots of traditional elements. The whole extended band gives it a go on Homura.

@Daniel O'Sheigh Good Morning to you. That was quite an epic version of that song, with the full orchestra. We picked that one to start with as we already had a good idea of the original, but it would be interesting to see what the band on their own are like. I only the other day watched a YT video on the Ami Lee and all the trouble behind this song and what she had to go through to even get it out there. She recently re-recorded all her material in a more stripped back way, as she intended them to be. Thanks for the support.

Good choice.😀 Do not think you can call it a cover since the orgilal singer participates. This is from the Wagakki Band Premium Symphonic Night Vol2. February 2020 with Amy Lee as special guest. A one night showe only. This is a nice song that gets better with WGB. You have to listen to original WGB songs like Ignite, Queen of the night, Izana, Hotarubi etc. Stay away from MV they are often blocked. There is live video of almost all of their songs. WGB is always best live.👍 WGB consists of: Yuko Suzuhana - Shiging, vocals Machiya - guitar, vocals Beni Ninagawa - tsugaru shamisen (Three Strings) Kiyoshi Ibukuro - koto (Japanese National Instrument) Asa - bass Daisuke Kaminaga - shakuhachi (Bamboo flute) Wasabi - drums Kurona - wadaiko (Japanese drums)

I've been watching your videos often. I'd really like to tell you something. It seems that you stop the song at the end of each section, but I think this is very bad. I believe that among the many songs, it is the section joints that show the singularity of the artist. In other words, it's a showpiece. I always look forward to seeing how reacts to these sections, but it is a shame that they seem to miss everything. It seems that every time you stop the video at the part you want us to see and enjoy the most, so please bear this in mind. Finally, I'm looking forward to watching more of your videos. You guys have got to react to more Wagakki Band because their cover of Bring Me to Life no where near showcases their true talent. Yuko Suzuhana is trained in Japanese traditional poetry, she has perfect pitch, and she's the best in live performances. The rest of the band is also highly skilled in their traditional Japanese instruments. There really isn't another band like them anywhere, not in Japan nor anywhere else. This has a more western classical feel. Suzuhanna plays piano in this song, she was trained in piano from the age of 4 Okinotayuu kzfaq.info/get/bejne/p75pn5R0rdG7lXU.html This song has more traditional Japanese elements Gobosei kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mcWIoNt0tqfNmZc.html This one is a bit of a fusion of Japanese traditional and metal Tsukini Sakebuyoru kzfaq.info/get/bejne/l72cgMZe1ciok2w.html

The band wants to promote Japanese culture and make it more accessable to wider audience. You will see elements and form of Japanese art at their live shows. They also do instrumentals. It's a little unfair, if people meet the band with this Evanescence song and "Senbonzakura" (their most popular song) because they are covers. But hey, if that helps spreading their talent. Don't fear the music videos on the band's official youtube channel. They changed labels, so no problem with recent work. This is their second concert with orchestra. You can check out "Izana" from it or "Doppo" where Yuko plays piano (she is classically trained). Also: Atena no nai tegami (a letter with no name) Sun wheel Nijiro chouchou Howling Reload dead Tori no youni Iroha uta Hotarubi I won't mention every song (though i'm tempted to), but you never know what you will stumble upon: epic ballad, warrior action song, sugar pop, jazz or metal.
