LYRICS (Translation):
Thousand cherry blossoms covered by night
I can't hear your voice
Indigo sky faraway
Shoot it with the ray gun
Dauntless high collar revolution
Broadminded, nation of antiwar
Drive two-wheeler made in Japan
Cast away the evil spirit, ICBM
Run through the belt highway,
Constantly on the move oh so what
Boys & girls Samurai warriors,
Oh what a fleeting world
Thousand cherry blossoms covered by night
I can't hear your voice
Its a feast in steel cage
Look down from that guillotine
Universe and eternal darkness
I can't hear the song of grief
Indigo sky faraway
Shoot it with the ray gun...
Veteran looking like an officer
Procession of courtesans going back and forth
You, you, everybody, come together
When the saints go marching in, one two three four
Pass through Zenjo Gage
Shamballa and exorcism
At last we shall see denouement
In between the applause
Thousand cherry blossoms covered by night
I can't hear your voice
Its a feast in steel cage
Look down from that guillotine
Universe and eternal darkness
I can't hear the song of grief
Indigo sky faraway
Launch that flash bomb..aaahhh
Run through the belt highway,
Constantly on the move oh so what
Boys & girls Samurai warriors,
Oh what a fleeting world
Thousand cherry blossoms covered by night
I can't hear your voice
Its a feast in steel cage
Jump off from that guillotine
Thousand cherry blossoms covered by night
You sing, I will dance
Its a feast in steel cage
Now burst the ray gun

UPDATE! Not sure if you heard. Wagakki Band have announced a hiatus at the end of 2024. No plans on when they might get back together. So, if anyone wants to see them, this year might be your last chance. I now have no choice, back to Japan this year. Cheers!

Senbonzakura is normally their concert exit song, the last song of the concert. The Roadie Shirts happen during a break several songs prior to this one. There is one song online of this concert where Machiya looks like he came in from the rain as sweat poured off his forehead.

Absolutely right. the song is about the westernization of japan and 1000 cherry blossoms refers to the 1000s of soldiers who were executed if i'm not mistaken. The song is from 2011, a vocaloid song with Hatsune Miku's voice.

Actually inspired by 2-26 Incident, which was an unsuccessful coup attempt by young officers of the Imperial Japanese Army years years before WWII with their leaders executed in the aftermath and led to the further militarization of the government.

They take traditional Japanese music to a rock level but still very beautiful and lovely! A great way to introduce people to old traditions.

Hi Guys; So glad you got back to Wagakki Band. I think they're probably in my top 5 bands right now.I would like to make another suggestion for Wagakki Band. It's called "Queen of the Night." Not only is it a beautiful slow song, but the music video is also beautiful. It's like a short film that tells a story. It's one of my favorite songs by them. I'd love to see your reactions to it. Take care, stay safe, and peace.

Haunting and beautiful would be my description, love this song, deep meaning . Apparently it’s connected to a cactus flower , which blooms during the night, but, then dies in the morning. Where they correlate women of the night. I may be wrong, so correct me, but that’s my interpretation. The official mv has cc.

Hi Guys! Great reaction again! I'm coming to the realization that as much as I like electrified rock music, the addition of traditional instruments just seems to elevate it to another level. The idea of out with the old, in with the new doesn't exist with Wagakki Band. One cannot live & breathe without the other. One thing is certain, my next trip to Japan will have to revolve around getting a ticket to see them live, unless they play somewhere in North America. Thanks again !

Megitsune by Babymetal and Osaki ni Shitsureishimasu by Hanabie have a bit of traditional Japanese instruments too. Mixed with Metal. Also have you heard Otyken? They also have a mix of traditional and western music.

Wagakki Band has become, in a relatively short period of time, a true supergroup for the 21st Century. They have a combination of musicians, composers and lyricists that no other group on the planet can match, and have in my opinion, the top vocalist/frontwoman on the planet in Yuko Suzuhana. They can pretty much work in any genre they put their mind to and do it flawlessly. The mix of modern and traditional instruments is a true winner and puts them in another class altogether. And every band member is a master in their particular instrument. You spoke of Beni Ninagawa shredding on her "banjo", lol. She does more with three strings on her Tsugaru Shamisen than most guitarists do with 6, and with a really eclectic sound that immediately shows the Asian flavor of the group. If you go to her page, there are videos of her and WGB guitarist Machiya doing gigs together while Yuko was recovering from the birth of her daughter. She really is a master of using the Shamisen in a rock environment as well as traditional. I've really only seen one other Shamisen artist who uses the instrument outside of the traditional realm, Shinobu Kawashima, who is becoming a well-known star in Japan's impressive jazz/funk scene. She has collaborated with master jazz bassist Juna Serita as well as other jazz luminaries. WGB is so impressive in live performances and I've never seen a concert video that was less than spectacular. Kiyoshi Ikuburo on Koto, Daisuke Kaminaga on Shakuhachi and Kurona on Wadaiko drums are also masters of their instruments. Bassist Asa and drummer Wasabi are excellent rock performers and they seamlessly integrate into the mix. Guitarist Machiya is a star in his own rite as a session musician, composer and lyricist and does the majority of arrangements for WGB. Yuko says that she trusts him implicitly to do the best job he can and that's a big vote of confidence. And though the occasions are rare, Yuko is a masterful pianist when she joins the band in certain songs. She is also an excellent composer and lyricist. There are few musical groups that contain so much talent. I look forward to more WGB reactions from you gentlemen, you do a great job. One video in particular that is outstanding is from their 2018 Oto No Kairo tour doing "Hangeki No Yaiba", which translates roughly to "Counterattack Sword", from the anime classic Attack on Titan. It shows off not only Yuko's amazing vocals, but her talent in traditional Japanese dance. And if you gentlemen like the sound of traditional instruments you should check out a Taiwanese musician on her page at Ni Ni Music. Ni Ni does rock and metal covers with a number of Chinese traditional instruments and ones that she has built herself. She is quite impressive.

This is the first song I heard from the Wagakki Band way back when, one of the first of the bands that enticed me into into the Japanese music rabbit hole. They are still one of my favorites. And as others have mentioned, when you see the bands performing in their t-shirts it often will be the encore of the concert when they're showing off merch.

Hi guys! As always, it’s very interesting to watch my favorite videos with you! I think Senbonzakura is the Wagakki Band's most popular song. It seems like they perform it at every concert! And I love this song! It is always beautiful! And the music video is awesome! They usually wear different costumes at different concerts, sometimes more traditional, sometimes more modern, sometimes a mixture of different styles. It seems to me that they are all wearing T-shirts because they are most likely performing this song at the very end of the concert, after they have already played the “last” song and left the stage. After a short break, they go on stage in T-shirts and perform a few more “last” songs. This performance of “a few more” songs is called something, but I don’t remember what. Thank you for your reaction!

The “lute” thing is a Shamisen. The “harp” thing is a Koto. The “flute thing” is a shakuhachi. The Japanese drums are collectively called “wadaiko”.

ICBM -- Intercontinental Ballistic Missile. I was in Japan back in the early 70's and there was a heavy push to keep American Nuclear Weapons off ships at Japanese ports. I visited a former missile site on Okinawa were the missiles and adjacent equipment had been removed. This is an anti-war song.

Senbonzakura is a fantastic song. The original is one of the most popular Vocaloid songs. The Waggaki Band's cover MV has 160 million views or so. Senbonzakura was the second most viewed Vocaloid on NicoNico (Japanese KZfaq) and has 100 million views on KZfaq putting it somewhere in the top 5? A piano version was in a Toyota commercial.

The song “SenbonSakura” mean “thousand sakura leaves of fallen” , which original from vocaloid (nico nico) in the year 2011. The song Compose and Lyrics by “Black Rabbit P” (黒うさP / KZfaq channel : WhiteFlame) It has since developed into novels, stage plays, and Kabukicho. The story is talk about Western culture to Japan in the Taisho Era, which Japan has entered a period of cultural blooming. At the time it could be called “Taisho Romance”(大正浪漫) The vocal Yuko Suzuhana singing style is Japanese Shigin (詩吟) style. Shigin style is doing what it's called "Seccho". Shigin follows Miyakobushi scale (都節音階). And the song Senbonsakura uses Min'yō (民謡) musical scale (Japanese folk song). And Wagakki Band cover it made everyone know in the world. By the way, Yuko Suzuhana have the qualification for poetry reciting can be said to be a black belt

I always enjoy watching Wagakki Band perform. Live performances of the band seem to be relatively rare. Only 20 shows are listed on setlist but I know that some shows are missing (including at least 2 US shows). I have no idea how many live shows they have actually performed but if it is doubled to 40, that is not many shows in ten years. I am also not sure if they have performed anywhere but Japan and a handful of shows in the US. I have no doubt that traveling overseas would be very expensive. They would have an enormous amount of equipment to crate and ship, plus hiring a larger than normal crew to setup the stage. I have no doubt that expense limited their US shows to the west coast and NYC, except for a performance at SXSW in 2016.

ICBM is ICBM as you know. Some people consider that the lyrics of this song are scary because of this word. The MV of this song by Wagakki Band is the most viewed video of this band (more than 160-million views). Anyway, the lyrics of this song are quite difficult to understand even for Japanese.

With the outfits for this performance, this is part of the encore so all the members aside from Yuko are wearing tour shirts over the top of their more elaborate stage costumes. It's something done by quite a few Japanese bands as a way of driving/encouraging merch sales without being too in your face or egotistical about it. Wearing your own band shirt for an entire show could be easily seen as arrogant, but dressing down/having an outfit change when coming back for an encore, after freshening up, is a more reasonable way of framing it.

For some reason most people start off with Wagakki Band's collab with Amy Lee, but they really had to dial things back with her, or risk blowing her off the stage. Now you really get to see what they can do. Re. gender, the bassist is often mistaken for a woman but is a dude.

@@myindieprodentertainment I'm sorry. It's verry sad when your friends die so young. I must say, though, from this angle, and this resolution they do look a bit similar. Which makes me further observe that both your friends I am aware of have plenty of facial and capillary hair. I would abstain my self from creating a pattern from only those 2 things, If it wasn't for the curly wig on your right. Do you really miss hair that much, Itai?(I'm just bantering, let me know if this becomes offensive in any way)

@@dorussio 😂 Interesting observation. LOL. No, just coincidence, I have plenty of friends in my life with little to no hair on their heads nor facial hair for that matter. Asaf actually grew his hair and beard for a specific project (which is just taking a long time 😆). I don't miss hair at all. I used to have very long hair, which I shaved off at around age 20 as it was bothering me when playing basketball. These days, well... let's just say that I'm lucky I got used to the look 😉 And no, no offence taken here. I can take a joke. I still have some sense of humour left 😜
