It's got a thicker neck than a regular Shamisen, and the wood of body and the head are thicker as well. The word Tsugaru Shamisen doesn't mean the instrument but its play style which started in Tsugaru region located in the norther tip of the main island of Japan. It's much wilder and quicker than the regular style. Groups of travelling blind musicians created that style. Just for your information.
