The banjo like instrument is the shamisen (tsugaru shamisen) the large pick is the bachi, which I believe is a representation of the fans with which geishas played this instrument. The harp is the Koto which is the national instrument of Japan.. The flute is a shakuhachi which is made of bamboo. In the year I have been following them they have become a great favourite of mine, especially watching their live performances. They are all both excellent performers and musicians and in my opinion Yuko's voice is truly amazing, she has to be one of the best vocalists out there. They really are a remarkable band and you are in for some real treats if you intend to delve further into their catalogue.

This the most reacted to MV, usually the reactors first time hearing them. Most have the same question about Beni's shamisen, she will bring as many as 4 for a performance. Swapping them out with a tech tuning as needed. Yuko (singer) was the catalyst for the creation of the band. The band was formed to bring Japanese traditional music and instruments to the youth of Japan. Hopefully generating an interest in both. They are very popular and play many cultural festivals. They have toured in the US and Europe and there are interviews with them during their US tour. Informative and fun.

About Wagakki Band's musical instruments "WA" means Japan. "GAKKI" is a musical instrument. (1) "KOTO" (a large, flat instrument of about 6 feet) The ancestors of "KOTO" came to Japan from China about 1300 years ago. "KOTO" has been used without changing its shape. The body is made of fine paulownia wood. A wave-shaped groove is carved on the back of the body. This is to make the sound sound like the inside of a violin. The strings are made of silk thread. Put "Kotozume" on your fingertips and play the strings. (2) "Shamisen" (instrument like a banjo) Generally, the "shamisen" is used as an accompaniment instrument for quiet and light songs. (Current ballads, songs like light pop) However, performer Beni plays a special shamisen called "Tsugaru shamisen". "Shamisen" is evolving in various styles all over the country. Among them, "Tsugaru Shamisen" has a fast and powerful sound and a unique playing style. It seems that the reason why this style was created is that TSUGARU-SHAMISEN was born in the extremely cold region of northern Japan (Tsugaru: place name). People with handicaps (mainly visually impaired) who lived in harsh natural environments lived. They earned money by letting people listen to songs and performances. They created a unique musical style to save their lives. It can be said to be an instrument with a sad history. (3) "Wadaiko" "WA (Japan)" + "TAIKO (drums)" = "WATAIKO". And the pronunciation changes from "WATAIKO" to "WADAIKO". Like Shamisen, "Wadaiko" has evolved uniquely in various parts of Japan, and there are various playing methods. There is a band called "Kodo" which is famous as a Japanese drum performance group. They are doing performance tours of Japanese drums all over the world. If you are interested in WADAIKO, we recommend listening to the performance of "Kodo". (4) "SHAKUHACHI" (bamboo instrument like a flute) Until about 60 to 70 years ago, units of length such as "Shaku" and "Sun" were used in Japan. (The pronunciation of "sun" is like a shortened version of "soon") 1-shaku = 30.3cm (It's a coincidence that it's almost the same as 1 foot) 1-sun = 3.03cm "Hachi" is the number "8". And the average length of "SHAKUHACHI" is "1-shaku and 8-sun (about 56cm)". The "shaku and 8" part became the name of the instrument. The structure of the shakuhachi is a simple bamboo tube. It doesn't have the reeds or valves that control the sound that many wind instruments have. The work of the performer's mouth and lips determines the tone. (Sounding itself requires a lot of training ... tone training is a subsequent step) There is a famous word that has been passed down in Japan for a long time about the practice of Shakuhachi. "Kubifuri-3nen, colo-8nen" This means that: "It takes three years to train to move the neck and head to control the strength of the sound." Then, "it takes eight years to train the fingers to make a good sound." Having only mediocre spiritual power, I just run away. It is said that Shakuhachi is not good at low and powerful sounds. By the way, super player Daisuke also seemed to have a tense face in the scene where he played a heavy sound ... Is it my illusion? from Japan * Sentences using a translation app. I hope the intention is conveyed correctly.

Hey! Great reaction!! I can understand that you tried to speak in the middle but couldn't. That banjo like instrument is a Futo-zao Shamisen which means a Fat-rod Shamisen. It's got a thicker neck than a regular Shamisen, and the wood of body and the head are thicker as well. The word Tsugaru Shamisen doesn't mean the instrument but its play style which started in Tsugaru region located in the norther tip of the main island of Japan. It's much wilder and quicker than the regular style. Groups of travelling blind musicians created that style. Just for your information. BTW, the horizontal harp is a Koro, and the flute is a Shakuhachi, and the drums are Taiko.

I will make suggestions that don't repeat already given ones. Here is one of the ballads of the band "Izana" kzfaq.info/get/bejne/h9d5gtN-l8mZqX0.html The channel provides lyrics if you're interested in that. Here is one of their instrumentals kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nrKJg9l219nQeGw.html Another combo like this you've reacted to is "Kyoka suigetsu +Tsukini sakebu yoru". You can use music videos for reaction, if it's from the band's official youtube channel. Only from avex (their previous label) they get copy right strikes. Any song is ok to grab, just know that you have to do quite a few, to see what the band can do. Some more titles as a reference. Howling, Iroha uta, Perfect blue, Nijiro chouchou, Tsuioku, Tomodachi ninaruyo, Kagerou, Shizumanai taiyou, Watashi shijoushugi, Hotarubi, Guren, Strong faith, Ignite, Eclipse, Sabaku no komoriuta, Tonno monogatari -go go, -kyuu yon, -yon yon - it's a series), Sasameyuki, Synchronisity, Episode.0 (2017), Bou getsu, Hana furumai, ect.
