While Alzheimer’s biomarker blood tests can’t actually determine whether or not a person has Alzheimer’s disease, they can signal the presence of biomarkers, which in conjunction with talking to a doctor, could encourage lifestyle changes or lead to earlier diagnosis. However, these tests can be hard to interpret and people still have questions about how these tests can evolve in the future.
Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul’s Wagner S. Brum joins Being Patient Live Talks to discuss Alzheimer’s biomarker blood tests. Specifically, he’ll discuss the current research in the space and answer questions about using these tests to learn more about Alzheimer’s risk.
As an MD-PhD candidate at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, Brum’s research focuses on advancing the clinical interpretation of Alzheimer’s disease fluid biomarkers used in these blood tests. In particular, he has developed a two-step workflow to implement blood biomarkers in clinical practice and has been working on the clinical validation of plasma biomarkers.
