I'd like to take a look at an engineer who had developed this.

Glad to see it is possible to open without destroying the case. This helped me use a more gentle approach. My first sensor battery change mangled the case because I used a screw driver. Looking at the initial pry spot, I assumed a simple twist would get the case open. Man, was I wrong. Live and learn.

Thanks for your comment. I now have to be careful for my wahoo sensors. My oculus just shows weak 🔋 this morning. Hope Wahoo seeing those comments in thus video clip and do something to improve their case sensors.

It’s the waterproof seal that makes it a pain in the ass to open. I just changed the battery on my speed and cadance sensors . Pain in the ass

I FINALLY got mine open - after struggling with it for half an hour! Screwdrivers, a knife, a vise, my fingernail(s) ... "Rubbish" is one word to describe Wahoo! products. This, and their wonky TICKR heart rate monitor strap that pops open at random. Bought an aftermarket strap on Amazon of the correct design that works far better when the old original died a month ago.

As I read of so many people struggling with this: Don't use coins or screwdrivers or other sharp objects pry open the case. I found the material way too soft for this. What worked for me is get the gap opened as shown in this video and then use an old credit card to proceed to the side w/o indentation. By then it should pop open there without damaging the rubber seal. From here it was plain sailing for me. Hope this helps

Thanks for the vid. Good to know that it does open. Tip, use a phone spludger to open the case and save your nails.

Worst design ever. Had to watch this video to figure out which way the battery went in, there are not + or - indicators in/on the case. Just like the presenter, when I finally struggled to get the damn thing open, the battery flew out. Wahoo should be ashamed of themselves, what a lousy design.

Thanks! I have a Powrlabs cadence sensor with an almost identical design. It opens the same way. I used an iSesamo phone opening tool, a thin metal device, because I found that before a plastic spudger. They can be dangerous because they're metallic, but it's not *too* hard to open the sensor. You need to slide the spudger under one of the clips on the side and lift. So the bad news is that it's pretty hard to open these without a spudger, but the good news is that you'll be much less nervous than you'd be if you were changing an iPhone or iPad screen.

Had a lot of trouble opening it up using a metal screwdriver. The plastic is too soft so the case got messed up. I used a simple dime, twisted it, and got the cover off VERY easily!

I used a butter knife and a spoon to lever it open, worked fine to get the initial segment open, but then had to crack the seal around it by slotting the knife along the seam and twisting. Worked well. Definitely couldn't do it with just my fingers.

I was about to buy Garmin Cadence and Speed sensor 2 but I would have to look at my watch all the time and I didn’t see Cadence AND Speed on the watch display. So I checked for the Wahoo but when I saw that video, I can’t see that repositioning the print seal correctly would be a challenge and when water gets inside, you’re out. Even the process to open the box is perilous. And how many times I open it before it cracks ? As customers, it’s always hard to make a choice because there is always compromise to be made that will make them make more money by us having to buy it again and again. I will wait until there is a better solution. Why not being rechargeable?

Trying to open it for the past hour... 🤬 ... and finally. Almost broke that little thing. In the end used a thin flat screwdriver, twisted that thing in the slot just so things get going, and then moved the screwdriver around and gave it a twist, moved along and did that every few millimeters and then this thing popped open . . . This thing seems to be build to withstand a nuclear blast.

I could not open it with my fingernails so I used plastic phone screen prying tool and the sensor ended up with broken o-ring seal. Does it count as an anti-repair design? Are they that incompetent or that evil?

Thanks for the video. I was rather sure that i am doing something very wrong, specially when o-ring started to come out from the gap. Idiotic design, specially considering there is more than enough room for two small screws or at least secondary prying spot to raise the cap from both sides at the same time.

thats incredible you just use ur hands to open this, not by any tools. Those plastic cases are so soft. I have already use my screwdriver to open speed and cadence but sadly my sensors cases got broken like junk and i cut off their seals accidently😢 thats nightmare for me i swear i will never do it again
