In this video, I document my experience of retightening my locs for the first time. As someone with locs, I understand how important it is to properly care for and maintain them. That's why I wanted to share my retightening journey with you, to give you a glimpse into what the process looks like and how it can help keep your locs healthy and looking great.
Throughout this video, I share some of the challenges I faced while retightening my locs and how I overcame them. I also discuss some of the products and tools that I used to make the process easier and more effective. By the end of this video, you'll have a better understanding of what goes into retightening locs and how you can do it yourself at home.

The self retighteners of sister locs are for those who want arm definition without having to go to the gym 😂 They are absolutely stunning don’t get wrong ❤ but for me any undefined arms I’m good with my 66 locs 😅

I use to say I’d never retie my hair but then the cost went up crazy to like $240 every retie and I was like oh no my pockets can not afford that. I combined my sisterlocks to make it quicker, but it still takes about a week to do. They’re just micro locs now.

Same! It’s waaaay cheaper. I don’t stress myself about time but I do it over 4 days now

I get it, but I was the opposite. I always knew I wanted to perform my own reties from jump. Mainly because I have always hated sitting in a salon! Whether I was relaxed, nature or SisterLocked. I just hated it. It was the reason why I delayed getting loc’ed for long. It takes me about a week as well, but had done my own reties since I hit my 6 month mark (currently 15 months SisterLocked). Doing it in from of my tv is fine, but I use my computer monitor so I can rest my elbows as much as possible on the desk while retieing. This allows my arms to rest and not get as tired.

I too decided to self retie because of the price shanigans! I set my alarm for 2 hours and do that everyday for a week. I will wait 8 weeks in between. Proud of the results thus far😊

It really makes you appreciate your loctitian. I self-maintained for 2 years. You did great. These prices go up 1 mo time I'll be back to self-maintaing.

It definitely gets quicker and easier the more you do it. I’m going on 21 month’s microloc’d. I have DIY since my establishment and I can do my reties in about 2 days (and that’s with two kids, yeah Idk how I got it down like that. Used to take me at least 4-5 days)

I definitely share your sentiments. Loc’s are great in general but the self-retightening even though it gets faster with practice remains an everlasting chore that must be maintained whether we feel like it or not! 😳 You’re doing a great job. Thanks for this idea! I’m the same money is tight so I’ve been retightening for 6 months. I just section off my hair and do the sections over 4 days.

You did a really good job for it being your first time. I'm one of the rare few that likes self retying. I find that if you break it up into a couple of days that it doesn't seem that daunting and the more you do it the faster you get.

I’m with you!! I retighten my hair ONCE because my consultant had carpal tunnel surgery. I went to her recommendation person once and didn’t like how she did my hair. So the next retie, I did myself. NEVER AGAIN. 😆 I have around 480ish or more locs. Took me 17 hrs over 5 days. I maintain and retighten my daughter’s hair though. She only has 169 locs.

Four months in (microlocs) and I did my retightening myself for the first time maybe three weeks ago. When I tell you my arms felt like they were gonna fall off 😭 it was worth it though because I saved the money and I didn’t have to deal with the hassle of finding a new loctician (mine was lacking)

Nice! I just retightened my hair this week and I think I took about 9 hours altogether. This is my 2nd time. The first time definitely took longer even with help from my boyfriend at the time. I only have 260 Interlocks and this time around it was more enjoyable and took less time. I was actually kinda sad when I finished 😢 But good luck! You’re doing a great job with your beautiful locs 💗

Diy microlocs & self maintain . Takes me 2.5 - 3 days(400ish locs & shaved sides) . I dit rifht on the couch & go row by row using clips for separation. 40 months locked & loving it!

Did good. The first time i retightened my locs it took me 9 hours. Now it takes me around 3 hours. It gets quicker.

You are one brave sister, but do what you gotta do. I can see myself getting about an hour in and calling it a wrap 😂. It's a great skill to have, but it would take me way too long. Your results were fantastic. Congratulations on your five year journey. I will hit year four this summer, and following your journey has inspired me.

I understand, 3 years loc’d and I do my own retightening on my microlocs since I’ve started them. So I TOTALLY feel you. It usually takes me 3 days to retighten my locs.

Great job! I usually start with my front first because my hands get so tired and I want my front to look the best. Then I slowly take my time and do the back because I can't see it anyways 🤷🏾‍♀️. Takes me 2 days. I turn on podcast because anything else distracts me.

Sis the more you do it the fast you get. I went from weeks to days to finishing in a weekend. One time I did it the whole night. It will start to get kinda therapeutic.
