You know. Despite the film itself being dark as fuck there are some really heart warming aspects behind the scenes. Rie’s roars in the Baragon suit are adorable and Fuyuki Shinada’s genuine sadness in Varan being scrapped from the film are both things from this franchise I will never forget.

9:00 - the sound of childhood dreams coming true. No joke. This honestly sounds like what I would expect an adult who has dreamed of performing in a kaiju suit since childhood to sound like. I'm sure this is my favorite Millennium entry as well, but I do wish they had stuck to their guns and used Varan and Anguirus instead of Mothra and King Ghidorah. One, Varan and Anguirus don't get enough love. Two, I'm kinda sick of Mothra and Ghidorah, tbh.

Ok I have a theory, hear me out on this. Godzilla has white eyes with no pupils, meaning no way to absorb and thus process light into visible images. He's blind. He already had a bad attitude before this affliction but now is even more cantankerous and capricious. He seemingly takes pleasure in and goes out of his way to harm innocents, indeed everyone he possibly can. He seeks out and runs the fade with any potential peers, especially those who still have their sight. He does not stop or change this aggression until he is dead. Possibility that he was also doing all of this because he was bored. Thesis: Godzilla is possessed by Stinkmeaner from the boondocks.

I really love the origin and look of this Godzilla. Now,I'm not sure how it is now,but I've often heard that Japan has had trouble admitting their past crimes from World War 2. So,to address this right off the bat by having Godzilla be the manifestation of all those killed by Japan was a brave choice. It's something that I wish the 1998 version did(having America's past sin come back to haunt them). Oh,and Chiharu Niiyama is gorgeous! She's right up there with Satomi Isihara(from Shin Godzilla)as my 2 crushes from the series.
@damienmitchell3104
@damienmitchell3104 Жыл бұрын
it isnt so much refusing to admit but them saying a lot of the crimes, which they did do, were made much larger post wwii such as the mass rape in china, according to them, didnt have as many victims as claimed, and stating they did execute many of those there that made it back, if they didnt die in battle. theres a lot of mud slinging between them to the point its hard to say who is telling the truth, or if even either of them are.

I was really excited for this film, it sounds so cool. Instead of being a metaphor of the bomb BigG is the pain of the wounded from the bomb, the mysticism and music are outstanding. What really is cool about this Godzilla is that the animatronic head is very expressive to the point that it looks like CGI but it's not. Every time Godzilla blinks his eyes and bares his teeth at the screen that's actually the puppet. There is a commentary on KZfaq called "the making of Godzilla (2001)" that goes into detail on how they made the suit and the technicality that goes behind it so I recommend it if any one wants to see how a monster is made.

I think this is one of the best Godzilla films for it really works as a sequel to the first movie as far as themes and ideas go. Of course this movie's more spiritual approach would be quite jarring if it wasn't for the multitude of Godzilla films before it desensitizing audiences to the spiritual side of Godzilla. But back to why it's such a great sequel, the original Gojira was about the pain and suffering inflicted onto Japan in World War 2, while this movie takes a risk to remind audiences that Japan wasn't just a victim. It was a perpetrator as well. For Japan inflicted unimaginable amounts of pain and tragedy throughout Asia and on Americans as well throughout the second World War. Godzilla is sometimes needed as a stark reminder to Japan, and the world. That he can be the hero, but turn at any moment. Also this is the first and only Godzilla film that I know of where Ghidorah is portrayed as a good monster, and on the right side of the battle. Further flipping the average Godzilla formula on it's head, this movie is basically The Empire Strikes Back of Godzilla. Showing us that every country involved in World War Two was a victim and a perpetrator.

GMK was my favorite film of the millennium Godzilla movies. I also think it’s amazing that Shesuke Kaneko directed a film for both Godzilla and Gamera. By the way, the Gamera trilogy he directed was how I discovered Gamera.

My #2 all-time favorite Godzilla film. It's also has a place in my heart for being the first Godzilla film released in my lifetime. I LOVE every aspect of it. While a sequel would’ve been cool to see, I also see this film as special because it's like "lighting in the bottle." Though I would be happy to see Kaneko return to do another Godzilla film.

I have been a Godzilla fan since birth, and as much as I love all the original suits, I am starting to feel that GMK best represents how I feel about/see Godzilla. As a little kid, I didn't care at all that one film Godzilla would be the harbinger of death and destruction, and then in another, the world's savior (with just a pinch of that "anti-hero" swagger). Even as Gamera became the "defender of all children" or whatever, you could tell that Too wanted to go in the direction of their rival. I liked that idea, too. Hell.....I just wanted to see Godzilla no matter what. I could care less as to what his purpose was. He was my Superman next to Bruce Lee. In GMK it just seems like he is the meanest sumbitch ever, and I dig that.

The Admiral reminds me of Kenji Sahara from Space Amoeba. Especially when he wears sunglasses.

Your videos have single-handedly convinced me to start collecting every Godzilla film. I already own quite a few of them but now I’m actually looking for Blu-ray discs and such that have both the English and Japanese versions

The Music really makes this Film even better, that Theme has such a sense of foreboding in it.

I really think they missed a great opportunity here to have lesser known and even less powerful monsters be the ones to take down Godzilla. Baragon, Varan And Anguaris would have been excellent choices.
