Happened on my flight from Richmond International Airport to Houston International Airport. Felt similar to a dropzone like ride for a second. I just laid back in my seat, shut my eyes for a minute, and thought "if something happens, it happens. Don't need to panick about it." It was my first experience with turbulence, so it was pretty tense for me. It was my favorite flight though because we banked over Houston and got to see the city at night with an amazing view.

@@robbiebunge859Ok so usually when first departing, the pilots will pitch up to maintain a certain speed in order to gain safe altitude (and noise abatement and other stuff and not overspeed the flaps). Normally at around 1000 to 1500 feet, depending on the departure procedure, climb thrust will be set and the plane will be pitched downward just slightly in order to start increasing speed to retract the flaps.
@jdhiner1

The flaps being lowered in a terminal area (ie close to airport landing very soon) could have flown through a wake vortex from a jet that was in that area earlier they can last for a good while and travel vertically and laterally

Think about it we don't see birds just falling out of the sky every day. If a bird can fly then a half million kg plane can fly without falling just keep that in mind 😂 don't be scared it's called turbulent Eddies you can see turbulence in a falcon gliding in a wind gust. It's totally normal don't freak out. You would most likely die in the car on the way to the airport than in flight
