Hydrofoil Product Review | Starboard Foils S-Type 2400 for Lake Foil Surfing & Hydrofoil Surfing | Foiling NY
The S-Type 2400 is a low-aspect ratio wing for hydrofoil surfing. This is the largest hydrofoil I have ever flown. In this product review we will try the S-Type 2400 out on the lake and see how it performs carving, surfing, pumping, and accelerating.
Promotion Disclosure: I would like to thank North Beach Windsurfing in St. Petersburg, Florida for loaning me their demo gear for two weeks so I could review the foil and share my learnings in this video.

That bungee launch is brilliant, no kidding. I am going to try that! Great idea.

Nice review! A comparison between the new starboard glider v2 line vs the equivalent sizes and types of Axis foils would be very interesting to see.

Finally I found someone with excellent info on foils. Looking to get a setup this spring for flat water pumping, wake surfing smaller wakes, and ocean surfing when waves are too small for traditional surfing. How does the starboard 2400 compare to the slingshot infinity 99?
@WakeThief
@WakeThief 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Ben. That comment made my day. If you’re intermediate seeking to become advanced and 80kg+ I’d recommend the AXIS 1150. If you’re less than that, I’d recommend the AXIS 1010 or 910. High aspect is the way to go once you’re comfortable managing the higher lift slope (small changes in board angle create large changes in lift force) as that makes dock starts harder and getting out of the water harder, but everything else so much better. The 99 and 2400 were quite similar though hard to compare because the slingshot fuse is so short and rear wing so large vs 2400. Happy to dive deeper if you like. I can be reached at foilingny@gmail.com

@@WakeThief Awesome thanks for the reply! I'll definitely consider reaching out to you again when the time comes and I have the money to throw down on a setup. For now I'll have a look at the AXIS and lucky for me you have a video on that too 🤙🏼

Seems like super high aspect is always going to win for just plain gliding (flat water pumping like you do). Lower the ar, the more drag, the less glide. I think that s-series would be good winging, or something with propulsion, when overall stability and lift is wanted, and enough glide to get between lulls/transitions. I just ordered the Starboard ocean swell 2000. Higher aspect than the s-series. Hoping to be best of both worlds for my needs.

Hi Sam. I am thinking similarly. 2000sqcm high aspect is where my heart is right now. I haven't tried anything in that class, because it's rare, but that's where I'm going next. I think it will let me slow down a bit, conserve energy, and pump longer. Thanks for the comment.

The shape and size of the front wing look very similar to the Armstrong CF2400. Also, love to see a review of the Moses 1,100 if you get a chance to ride it.

Do you ever buy just a front wing and connect it to an existing fuselage? Is there any inter compatibility between manufacturers? I'd really like to try a high aspect ratio wing and I currently have a liquid force flite foil set.

Anhedral angle is the downward angle of the wings relative to the fuse? Is that correct? As in the wing tips-assuming a straight wing- would sit below the fuse?
@WakeThief
@WakeThief 2 жыл бұрын
Yes. If you looked head on it would be an arch.
@bry8636
@bry8636 2 жыл бұрын
@@WakeThief Thanks, the Armstrongs I ride have that anhedral angle for the most part and I find if my mast isn’t vertical and forward bound with sufficient speed, I generally roll out. The faster I’m going the less of an issue it is but at slow speeds a slight lateral cant will finish me.

I know this is an old post now but wondering how the Starboard 2400 conpares to the indiana 1100p? Thanks
@WakeThief
@WakeThief Жыл бұрын
Great question. If I recall correctly, the Indiana aluminum mast is thicker and stiffer so you’ll feel more locked in on Indiana, but I think the 1100P has more drag so a bit slower.

I see you use a lot the SLINGSHOT WF2 4'10 board. Would you recommend it a a good all around dockstart / pumping and wakefoiling board?
@WakeThief
@WakeThief 3 жыл бұрын
Yes. It is good. I can recommend. I prefer my 3‘6“ slingshot dwarfcraft, but it is harder to get lift off with.

@@WakeThief ...by liftoff you mean bungee starting ?
@WakeThief
@WakeThief 3 жыл бұрын
@@SFZM Yes, the speed at which the wing takes off. Good low speed lift (and low stall speed) would mean wing takes off quickly after I launch off bungee, at a lower speed with less runway.

Are low-aspect ratio wings easier for beginners? I can understand why high area wings are good for beginners but I'd think a high-aspect ratio (lower drag) wing would be easier to use than this sort of low-aspect (high drag) wing. It kind of seemed like you were trying to find good things to say about this wing. Even though this wing *could* be used by a beginner, aren't there better alternatives? Your videos are always fun to watch. Thanks.
@WakeThief
@WakeThief 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Duane. In my opinion, low aspect wings are easier for beginners. They plane more easily and lift less suddenly during water start and are less sensitive to small changes in angle of attack which are hard for beginners to master. I’m reviewing another large area, low aspect ratio wing right now and it performs very similarly.
