Thanks for the review Jason! It is a lot of fun to play and compare colors, brands, textures and mixture compatibilities. Not all of us have the time or supplies to do so thus, your reviews are invaluable!

These colours remind me of a Fall in Tennessee, in 1998 I moved to Tennessee in the Fall, so beautiful! Tennessee Falls are gorgeous. Nice demo, I so enjoy, if you do a painting with these let me know, and I thought of a big brown bear as well. Or a baby 🐻! LOL

Can you mention which brand the other one is? It's very helpful. I'm about out of my trans ox red, and trying to narrow down which ones to have on my list to try, and which ones not to.

@@walcottfineart5088 thanks!! Funny, that's exactly how I felt about their trans ox yellow! Do you happen to have the Rembrandt trans ox red? If so, I'd love to know your thoughts about how it differs from whatever other brands you have. I've noticed many artists who follow in the vein of Schmid swear by specifically using Rembrandt Trans ox red and ultramarine blue deep, so I've always been curious why that is. I have a good bit of Rembrandt, but apart from a couple colors I'm underwhelmed by it's pigment load and uniform texture. I have to say, I'm definitely intrigued to pick up Rublev's next time around.

@@katetopps4706 I did try the Rembrandt Trans. Oxide Red once after hearing all those great things too! I honestly wasn't that impressed. It seemed like it wasn't very strong and i had to use a lot of it to get good color saturation. I would much prefer the Gamblin or Rublev color. Thanks again for all your great questions! :)

@@paintkoziej6812 The Rublev Transparent Iron Oxide Red is a beautiful color. It's very close to the Willimasburg and Harding, but maybe slightly higher in tinting strength and a bit more saturated. Thanks for watching!

Thank you, such great comparisons- love your help!! I can’t decide on a medium of Rublevs’ Italian Vanish or Gamblin’s Neomeglip- or what their differences are- could you help? Also, I am making the oil primer over gesso on a hardboard, like you recommended, to double check- it’s Williamsburg lead oil ground and to thin I am suppose to use Gamsol? And what brand Dammar varnish to mix in my 1/3,1/3,1/3? I’m making my shopping list from all your videos. Blessings this Easter!
@walcottfineart5088
@walcottfineart5088 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! Neomegilp is a synthetic alkyd based medium whereas the Rublev Italian Varnish is made from traditional materials. So it does contina real turpentine. Maimeri makes a good damar varnish that I like. Have fun! :)

@InLawsAttic 2 жыл бұрын
@@walcottfineart5088 Thank you! Will put that on the list and avoid the Neomeglip- and Maimeri will be the varnish- thanks again so much! Love your painting style and lessons!

Interesting, Walcott. Would you say transparent colors are necessary on a palette? Are there any transparent colors you recommend besides the usual basic primals? Im really struggling with choosing a limited palette because I only travel to the US every 2~4 years, and in my country there's no Golden Acrylics (which are the ones I wanted), so I want to get all my choices right "Alla prima" haha. Thanks
@walcottfineart5088
@walcottfineart5088 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, transparent colors are essiential to achiving certain effects. For traditional style painting, like I work in you want to keep the darks/shadows thin and transparent (even though they're dark) and the light colors thick and opaque. The specific colors aren't important but I would have at least one warm dark and one cool dark. Like a transparent brown and Ultramarine. Thanks for watching!

Wait they are synthetic hues? I thought Rublev only did authentic natural colors? Or is that not the case?
@walcottfineart5088
@walcottfineart5088 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, technically these earth colors are "hues" and this is the case with most manufacturers since many of the original deposits that produced the genuine ochres and iron oxides are almost depleted at this point. There's has been some debate about whether they should be labeled as "hues" or not since the chemical composition of the pigment is identical to the natural stuff, it's just made in a factory instead of the ground. I think Rublev wants to expand their line by offering the synthetic earth tones to help artists round out their palettes. Thanks for watching! :)

While I absolutely love rublev products such as their wonderful oil mediums I do find that their oil paints are quite a bit overpriced compared to the value you get say buying larger tubes from some of the higher end brands like Michael Harding with the exact same colors
