The life of most people in the Philippines are really hard. So people most of the times just want to forget even for a short while. So singing, or dancing, or having an inuman (drinking) session with family and friends is an escape from reality. This is common and ordinary especially when life hits us the hardest. The fun part is that even if you are not good nobody will judge you. Thank you so much you guys, for embracing the Filipino culture. Maraming Salamat...

What Efra was saying is true. I was previosly connected with an international consutling firm and some of my collegues who would come from western countries were amazed when we do performances (singing, dancing, etc) during office Xmas parties in the Philippines which were mostly done for fun . They said they they could not imagine putting themselves out there to be made fun of. When I told them that is the whole point, to laugh and be laughed at and that all is made in good fun, they still could not get it.

You see even not all of us are good singers but when we hear someone (who we know) sing a song that we know we will automatically sing with them. Whether we do duet or we harmonize with them while doing what we are doing at the moment.

In the Philippines, you take turn singing... Until your mom makes you sing even though you don't want to... "It's just us. Family." They always say... Or someone always has a guitar and just automatically start a jam session. Always full of music...

Before the spanish came in 1521, filipinos already loves music. We used bamboo, coco shell, tree leaf, etc to produce an instrument/sound. Later on the Spanish time, guitar came and it was introduced. Our first city is CEBU CITY(Spanish explorer Ferdinand Magellan died and lost his fighters in the island of Mactan in Cebu). Its is in Cebu province where local guitars are made. This made CEBUANOS & nearby islands famous in music. The likes of ASIA'S QUEEN of Songs PELITA CORRALES(a mestiza spanish descent) & Asia's Phoenix MORISSETTE AMON are from CEBU city & Minglanilla, Cebu respectively. .

I don't think Filipinos being nice comes from their singing culture. I actually believe it's the other way around, the reason why singing is so common and openly encouraged in the Philippines is because people won't judge you regardless if you are great and that comes from their nature of being accepting and nice.

As kids in the 80's in Manila, we get 5-10 Pesos from "Raton Perez" (our version of tooth fairy) whenever we lose a tooth. I don't know how much kids in the PH get nowadays but perhaps Wale is right about 50 Pesos. FYI, I live in Europe and when Filipinos gather here for a party, lechon, pancit, lumpiang shanghai, etc. are served. For entertainment, esp. during big weddings or cultural events, party-goers also dance to tinikling and, of course, it will never be a Filipino party without the MagicSing (karaoke microphones)!

Just to further illustrate how firmly entrenched the culture of singing is in the Philippines, in our office, one tecreational facility provided by our employers for us to relax during our breaks and after shift is a karaoke room. Seriously. What country in the world will you find a karaoke room at the workplace?

You could visit the Philippines with a one-month visa then extend it for another two months for a total of 3 months. Then you can hop over to Hongkong or Singapore and when you come back, renew the visa for another 3 month visa, and keep doing this indefinitely. That will give you lots of time to visit Zamboanga City and other places, join in lots of karaoke parties, practice with different bands, church choirs, school glee clubs, dance groups, go island hopping, dive in the world's best dive spots, climb mountains, swim under waterfalls, learn how to surf, eat various foods in all types of restaurants, learn to speak Tagalog or Chavacano, visit Vigan, Intramuros, and Binondo.

During our annual family Christmas reunions, we have a band setup where all musicians are our uncles and cousins or one of our siblings. We call each family for any presentation be it a song or dance or both. Then after the formal individual family performances comes the free for all where anyone can sing or play and jam with the band. I miss those Christmasses now 😭♥️

You should check out clips of SB19 being in Pinoy Big brother where they were mentoring the teens in singing and dancing in prep for a concert the teens were to do. There are clips of Stell teaching one of the boys how to sing a phrase better and Pablo giving pointers to another lad how to sing better. You will also see clips of Stell just breaking out into random singing. Also check out a clip of the crowd at the SB19’s DDcon singing MAPA. The whole crowd is singing MAPA acapella.

How do you sing? Yes, just sing whenever you want. That's what we do here. We laugh sometimes here when you're out of tune, but we are not judgemental, not everyone has the tune. But we do encourage singing. So just sing! In the shower, while having coffee, while walking, when you're sad, when you're happy, or whenever you want to sing your heart out.

Well, some say that the Philippines was the Land of Ophir/Gold mentioned in the Bible, and the Bible says (Isiah 42:10) “Sing to the Lord a new song - His praise from the ends of the earth (‘Pearl of the East, The Philippines’) - you who go down to the sea, and all that is in it, you islands (Philippines has 7k+ islands) and all who dwell in them.” This could be the reason why a lot of Filipinos can sing really well, it has been a part of the culture since the beginning, and it will be until the end…

(1) We know Michael Buble, but we have a Jose Mari Chan Christmas. (2) PhP50 is always around US$1. (3) When it comes to liking/loving something that you do or want to have, you say, for example, "Gusto ko ang halo-halo." Gusto, not mahal. If you like/love doing or having something frequently, you can say, "Mahilig ako sa halo-halo." It emphasizes just how much you like/love it.

that's a normal family gathering here in the philippines, its either you sing and play an instrument or you dance or do both as a kid, there is no in between because as kids you have to entertain the adult relatives and visitors. sometimes you end up with lots of caching so it encourages you to practice more so when another family party comes up you be ready again so you gonna have more money again. its like a money earning thing for kids here. hehe. and when those kids become adults they end up having nice voices due to continuous practice since childhood.
