Many people who have suffered a stroke, brain injury or are living with other neurologic conditions such as multiple sclerosis have difficulty walking due to the toes cramping. In this video you will learn how to make your own tool to stop toe cramping and improve your walking. I also demonstrate some of the BEST exercises to help treat toe cramping and general leg spasticity after a stroke.

Any improvements? My right hand is numb still after stroke and right leg is weak and cannot walk. Cannot bend ankles or move toes. Will I be able to get my ankle and toe movement back? I am worried about this as I think if I had movement here I could support my weight and try walk.

Thank you so much!! Now I can start working on my cramped toes, so encouraging. The docters here in Holland (Europe) only want to operate on the toes (to break them). I never listened to them, and always hoped there would be another way. God blesses you Dr. Tobias, after 6 years in the darkness…I see a light! Greeting from Holland

This is fantastic! Thank you. I had botox in my gastrocnemius on 16th November.It stopped my clonus and supination. However it has very suddenly worn off sending my affected leg into a spastic frenzy, with toe pointing and curling and the foot supinating. I've returned to my ankle brace for safety and this exercise has calmed it down enormously.

I think about this everytime I go up the stairs. My toes are holding onto my slippers so tight! 😅To be rid of this issue seems like it would take a miracle. Or maybe just proper insurance coverage from an injury inflicted upon me as a child. It’s amazing how fast your body compensates without thinking. U have to override it, it’s so simple but hard. I hope to be able to walk in mules or flip flops someday!

I am glad I found this video. I am now biting off too much once again. I want to watch the "Fix a heavy leg, and the improve ankle mobility (my main concern this week) and Hand exercises for every stage. I get motivated but end up exhausted after a few minutes. I wonder if it is better to do exercise A until I fatigue, rest awhile then do exercise A again, or would it be more beneficial if I did exercise A until I fatigue, then do exercise B with a different muscle group, allowing more work before getting exhausted.

I had a terrible time with cramps in toe, foot and leg, until I realized that I needed to deal with the painful cramping separate from the curling issue. If you have painful cramping, my doctor and I worked on adding electrolytes to my daily water intake. There are products available through the web. I have painful cramping much less and then I can do exercises more easily.

Hi Dr Tobias, I've watched several of your videos and always wondered if your recommendations apply to a child with cerebral palsy? My child is 2 year old with dyskenetic cp. He wears braces on his feet sometimes ( he hates them). Was told by therapist not to wear them all day long as it might block some muscles from getting some exercises. 1. Does your recommendation apply to cp? 2. Braces all the time or just couple of hours a day? Thank you
@rehabhqofficial
@rehabhqofficial 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching!! CP is a form of brain damage so many of the exercises and explanations would apply to CP. As far as the braces, you want him to be able to explore his envirnment as much as possible. So if it helps him to stand or "furniture walk", yes. Also, you do not want him to get contractures (muscle shortening) in the muscles that point the feet so that might be another reason to keep them on. On the other hand, I do not know his abilities and if he is showing signs of engaging the ankle muscles then your therapist would be correct to take them off intermittently. I hope that helps!

When making a stretching board, is it important to use a round shape for under the toes? Or is a wedge shape good too? What about a concave surface to stretch/stand? Thanks so much for the video. Hopeful it will help me help my friend
@rehabhqofficial
@rehabhqofficial 2 жыл бұрын
That is an excellent question. I use the marker because most people do not have wedge shaped items laying around the house. 😊 But yes, a wedge might be preferable. I don’t think I concave surface would give enough toe extension. I hope that makes sense.
