Another practical hint: if you make something like what’s done in the video make sure it does not look like a barrel of a gun or you might be shot by “threatened” police. This one actually looks kind of funny since it resembles the barrel of that German WW2 stationary machine gun that fired a million rounds per minute

mg38? probably wont get shot for having a walking stick though. its very easy to tell the difference between a rifle and walking stick. unless youre shouldering it and pointing it at people and screaming that youre gonna shoot them, you’ll probably be fine

Better, or I guess more applicable, would have been to try to do this and see what happens with an extendable aluminum(actually I am not sure if aluminum specifically) mass produced stick. People who actually need walking stick canes like myself can’t seriously use wooden sticks since they are not good for balance.

Actually the video showed it... but it wasn't obvious. He evidently put a piezo rod pickup inside the piece of white tubing that doubled as a saddle. From there a simple wire leading to the jack is all that's required. I did notice a bit of string buzz... which can probably be corrected by placing a shim under the saddle and (possibly) raising the nut just a bit.

This is so nice brother, you do such amazing work! Do you sell any of your instruments? If so, I'd love one like this. Also, if you do any custom orders, I wish you could make me a light electric guitar. I'm gonna be 60 this year, and it's getting too heavy for me. It either hurts my shoulder, or if I sit down, the heavy weight hurts my leg, I'm surprised they don't make lighter bass guitars for this very reason. Also, are the length measurements online somewhere, to know where to mark the frets? Also another idea I had was to try to make a walking stick one string bass with a PVC pipe. Is there any way to make it electric if it's a PVC pipe? I'm kinda handy, so I could do it with some direction. =) Thanks & kind regards to you & your dear family.

I'm in the process of building one myself, but using an axe handle. I'm naming it "The Axe". This is my first instrument build so there will be no frets. I also muck around with playing the violin and I wonder how a bow across it would sound? I reckon you could build a sweet 1 stringed electric cello! Loving your channel!
@CircuitsAndStrings
@CircuitsAndStrings 5 жыл бұрын
A one string cello would be sweet. I’d probably have to use a normal cello string instead of a bass string. Good luck with your Axe project. Make a video about it and send me a link.

I'm concentrating on fretless bass stick for now. I'll see what bowing sounds like but I'm almost certain it won't sound too good. For my second attempt, I'll try a 1-string cello. I reckon you could do an awesome 1-string cello/double bass. Cheers.

it works great, I done the same on an oak drum shell, lovely dense velvety black. It only works on wood that has a naturally high tannin content.
@valvenator
@valvenator 6 жыл бұрын
That is correct. It's not a stain but a chemical reaction between the tannin and the iron acetate. Though it can look horribly splotchy on woods with uneven tannin content such as maple.

Super cool!but question isnt the wood going to warp since i didnt see any polyurethane on it? Even pretreated wood can warp and split.

It was made with a solid piece of well seasoned cherry wood. After the vinegar and steel wool stain, it was given a Tru-oil finish. It’s a popular finish for gunstocks and instruments. So far, it’s solid and stable.
