Walking the Streets of Pyongyang

During our visit to North Korea, we were almost never allowed to walk outside. We would ride a shuttle from destination to destination.
However, one day, after we had built up enough trust with our minders, we were allowed a rare opportunity to actually walk along the streets of Pyongyang for a few minutes. Here's a video of that moment. The freedom felt amazing!

Free Man..you do realize that Pyongyang is literally the all of the most wealthy and privileged of North Korea. Move outside of the city and there is much more poverty than any place in America.
@rudyceron3420

MrCrockaG you're wrong, the richest cities and regular and small cities n towns have both a wealthy and poverty side with killings suicides and malnutrition from not enough government spending funds to create jobs in and around those areas and low funds for proper food benefits promised by the u.s. government. where I was born n lived most my life, a reservation in South Dakota called the Pine Ridge Reservation is 3x times under the poverty line of America, it is considered a third world country inside America, even with treaties made in the U.S. Constitution to provide schooling homes jobs n food for stealing most land for America. the treaties are broken and he funds are getting lower n lower and government made alcohol is distributed into our illegal alcohol reservation from white towns next to our bordering counties. they are slowly killing us off and taking more land illegally and for money, especially the president right now continuing his wasicu tradition for the government. wasicu a Lakota word in my language made for the symbol of the u.s. government, it means takes the fat, it was said to either be a greedy person, usually wasicu was preferred to the whiteman. I hope one day to to take my grandmother n our family out of the reservation and to a better place

I feel this may have more to do with them thinking unkindly of the western visitors and less so to do with them being "oppressed" Wouldn't you think if it was so dangerous to wave/communicate with foreigners then they would teach their kids that they are risking their lives by doing so. If I was a kid in a country where you could be punished by the government for waving at someone I sure as shit wouldn't do it on camera 🤷‍♂️

Actually they did. But the funny thing is - the reforms are "hidden" from the NK population itself. In the sense that the official propaganda does not call them reforms, it pretends everything just goes as usual. But yes, since Kim Jong Un assumed power they got reforms similar to China in 1970s. But only economically. Politically, in China there was some (albeit minimal) liberalization. There is no such one in NK - in fact, everything indicates KJU's regime being more oppressive than his father's.

+Alexaj Kesavaraj There is no freedom of the press in the west, either. Unless of course you consider the ability of wealthy corporations to control the media while the voices of the downtrodden are ignored as... "freedom of the press". Not only is DPRK clean, you don't have mass shootings everyday, you don't have police officers gunning people down, you can see children playing on the street even late at night and walking around, there is virtually NO advertising, leaving the city clear of marketing messages trying to make people feel worse by telling them they're inadequate and need to buy some skin care product or some hair styling product or some fancy car, etc. Within the next 10 years, the true glory of the DPRK will be seen that even all the North Korea haters will have to finally admit they were wrong and manipulated once again, just like they were manipulated about France, Syria, Libya, Iraq, etc. etc. etc.

"The adults don't wave back but the kids sometimes do..." They haven't been fully brainwashed or meant to fear for their lives yet. In NK you go from an innocent child of zero consequence to a fully damnable adult around 12/13yrs old. By then they feel you know what you're doing and saying and can be punished no different than an adult (your family also held accountable for their behavior so also open to be punished for anything a teenager says/does). It's crazy but NK is crazy.

@DannyWilliamH
@DannyWilliamH 8 жыл бұрын
+Fredrik Melin Yeah.....because waving is a thing that is *only* done by people that know each other. Nobody has ever met due to an until wave - totally awesome true fact. I just looked this stuff up. DID YOU KNOW: Humans aren't meant to know anyone they don't already know! BONUS FUN FACT: Humans are only meant to be kind towards people they already know, unlike the elephant which will share it's peanuts with both giraffes and mountain goats! "SHUCKS, WHY NOT" FACT: The human "wave" was invented in 1988 by Arnold Yates, a Chicago businessman. Yates, 42, was driving to the grocery store when he had noticed his wife blowing another man in the parking lot. As they met eyes it was soon obvious that any vocal pleasantries couldn't be exchanged (due to her mouth being full of cock) and so he shook his hand back and forth in her general direction. This "wave" would soon catch on but only between people that already knew each other because it is, in fact, ILLEGAL in every country to shake your hand kindly toward a stranger! By golly, I guess it is weird to wave at a stranger! The more you know.....

Hey Eric, after watching all these videos. I can't help but wonder, how have you been allowed to walk around? To the best of my knowledge I thought you were on a strict guided trip with two North Korean officials? Very interesting place, whilst I accept the many flaws it has, it certainly intrigues me. But yes if you could explain how you are able to walk so freely that would be great.

How would they have a functioning economy if everybody were actors trying to make tourists think it's real? Do you really believe they built things just to impress tourists? Wtf, tourism only brings them little money, it doesn't make any sense that they would do such a thing (which is also impossible btw)
