Walking through the streets of Lucerne, Switzerland on a cloudy summer day. This was filmed on July 17th, 2021, when there was severe flooding in Germany and Belgium, and you can see that the river going through Lucerne is also on the verge of overflowing. Luckily there were sunny days ahead.

We stayed in Lucerne for several days 30 years ago this month, camping right on the shore, and it rained the whole time, so this footage was a proper hit of nostalgia! Lovely stuff, thanks.

Mixed feelings about someone turning a prison into a hotel. A great re-use of no longer used building. I wouldn't want to stay in my room long but then isn't that kinda the point when traveling? Getting out of the room and seeing the sites and the city!

I thought it was one of those old places built for war. I guess it's that too. $87 a night gets you a medieval prison cell, but adequate and solid it is for urban accommodations.

You mentioned in the previous video about going to Interlaken and Wengen. We were there in 2018. Specifically Lauterbrunnen. You won’t be disappointed. Many many hiking trails. Jungfrau is cool. We walked from Kleine Scheidegg to Wengen.

Very nice video, when you walk across the river and get that iconic view of Lucerne it's beautiful, nothing like the vibe and ambiance in Switzerland folks :) , wondering how much the train ticket cost? Hopefully you stop in Geneva, awesome city I've been in that just blew me away, mostly my brain and heart, felt totally at home there, nothing like it on Earth.

Curious question: why weren't you interested in staying in the Ticino canton? You just skipped passed it in the previous video. But I've seen a few people who go hiking and biking in the mountains there, it sounds good.

I'm not familiar with what exactly there is to see in the area but I think it will become clear in the coming videos in which I show some of the most epic views of the Swiss Alps. My destination was around Lauterbrunnen and Wengen. Lots of places to stop along the way, but I can't see everything.

@@GabrielTravelerVideos I've been to Lauderbrunnen Valley once, in 2001, and it is among the most spectacular places I have ever seen. Supposed to revisit in September if all goes well and can still travel from Dallas. Expensive, yes. My attitude is suck it up for a couple of days and then flee to cheap France/Italy/Germany.

Floyd-interesting perspective.... Italy/France/Germay may be less expensive than Switzerland, but they are not "cheap" That would require heading further East or to the Balkan countries.

6:46 That's strange because the Alps are located more in the south I believe (from Lucerne) Is suppose you went South -West? Going west will bring you to the Jura Mountains

In previous video, Gabriel said he is going to Interlaken, that means south-west from Lucerne, yes. This town Interlaken is a good starting point for many hikes and trains into Bernese Alps (like Jungfraujoch, Wengen Lauberhorn Downhill Ski Piste, Grindelwald-First with Bachalpsee, Lauterbrunnen and Mürren-Schilthorn).

@@GabrielTravelerVideos, I am happy for you that you had a sunny day for the Jungfraujoch trip and saw spectacular high-mountain Alpine world in all of its glory. ;) View to the Aletsch Glacier, the biggest glacier in the Alps, was also amazing, I see. It is even more snow there right now than in previous summers, I believe, because there were many precipitations in last week or so - in valleys there were rain and floods but high in the mountains many snow, just like in April and May.

Switzerland is certainly not cheap. i will pass on that one. I recommend Dilijan, Armenia since I was there visiting UWC Dilijan College.

Going to Switzerland this winter. Ill be in Europe for 5 weeks starting Dec 8th but Switzerland is the main place i want to visit. Any tips on hostels and best means of traveling through the country would be much appreciated.

If you are going for that long, travel in Switzerland is extremely expensive. If you want the most accurate prices and cost, you can plan your trip using the SBB website. (Estimation a 2 hour 1 way trip is about 80 CHF). The Swiss travel pass flex may be a good choice. It is 810 CHF but it allows you unlimited travel for 15 days on all trains, buses, ferries and half fare on all mountain trains. You get to pick any 15 days during your time in Switzerland. You might also enjoy the Halfare Travel Card where you pay a fixed rate, then all your trips are half price for the year. DO NOT attempt to get on a train without a ticket. ALL trains have ticket checkpoints that you cannot avoid or be fined.

The wooden bridges were closed because of the flooding.

Too bad you didn't get to spend at least 1 sunny day there. Of all the Swiss cities, its probably the most fairy tail picturesque while still being a real city with incredible culture and vitality.You seemed to miss most of what makes Lucerne so uniquely beautiful most of which was in the immediate area of your hotel. That hotel rate was excellent and there are a handful of similar rates to be had within the same immediate area. Its only 40 minutes to Zurich, 1 hour to Basel or Bern from there . You also have the splendor of nearby Mount Rigi and the beautiful lake to take the boat on... all available with the same train pass. The train is never ever late. You should go back for a couple of days next time.

I've been to 76 countries and Iceland and Switzerland are tied for the most expensive. I think there are even more expensive places, like the Faroe Islands, remote towns in Alaska and some countries in Africa that are surprisingly expensive, especially accommodation because they don't have budget travel options.

Im from Australia, i was planning on travelling to in Poland in 2020 but then covid hit of course, and our borders here are still currently shut.
