Dear Alice, I also saw your first video of Santorini, but without leaving a comment. It is such a beautiful place that I thought it didn't need another comment. But when I saw the second video, I realized what I had missed. Where are the children playing in the streets of the Greek villages? Where are the old people sitting on benches in front of their houses and talking to their neighbors about the latest village stories? All I see are large crowds of tourists squeezing through the narrow streets. It gives me a little food for thought, because everything that these places once were has become a kind of Disney world for tourists. Please forgive my direct criticism, but I live in such a place myself and see how it is slowly dying and the locals are leaving their island because they can no longer afford the expensive life in the place where they grew up. The rents are unaffordable, everything is bought up by investors, even every small cowshed is converted into a luxury apartment or a restaurant. Tourism is both a blessing and a curse. Only a few locals actually benefit from tourism, the rest get nothing and lose their beloved homeland. Some tourism hotspots in Europe are slowly waking up and banning providers like Airbnb from renting apartments in the cities to tourists in order to avoid overtourism and create living space for locals again.
