WALKS IN DORSET at CORFE CASTLE & KINGSTON (4K)

In this episode of my series “ Walks in Dorset” I take a walk in & around the pretty villages of Corfe Castle & Kingston. Once again I am accompanied by my Whippet, Logan.
My 5.5 mile circular route starts & finishes at Kingston which is situated about 2 miles South of Corfe Castle & 5 miles West of Swanage on the Isle of Purbeck. There is a free car park just to the West of Kingston village.
I start off at the magnificent church of St James in Kingston and then wander through the village, past the Scott Arms pub and the “old” church before heading North East into the countryside along the sides of fields. There are some stunning views to enjoy as I join the Purbeck Way (a Long Distance Path) towards Corfe Common and then the village of Corfe Castle itself.
There is so much to explore in the village - the church, the “tiny” town hall with it's museum & three pubs. The highlight of the walk is a visit to the remains of Corfe Castle - a truly magnificent sight set on a mound in between two ridges. The castle has so much history to discover and, of course, it provides a great opportunity for 360 degree views of the surrounding landscape.
After enjoying some light refreshments at the castle tea rooms I head on my homeward journey, Southwards, back to Kingston via Corfe Common and the pretty Blashenwell Farm.
I was filming on a glorious Spring day with plenty of sunshine & blue skies.

One of the best channels on youtube. A treasure. In an age of hot debate, insane politics, and social unrest...we all need a quite and peaceful walk through the countryside with an erudite gentleman and his canine companion, learning about the area as you go. A great channel, Dave. It really is.

Hi Dave and Logie, we have just come back from two amazing weeks in the New Forest and Dorset. We did so many of your walks - Lymington, Bank, Linford, West Bay, Burley, Hale, Milton Abbas and Abbey, Kimmeridge Bay, Wilverley Enclosure, Corfe Castle, Cerne Abbas. They were all amazing, it’s hard to pick a favourite as they were all such lovely places. Milton Abbas was incredible - we think we saw that you signed the visitors book in the church. So a huge thank you for all your videos which helped us make our holiday so brilliant. Your videos are amazing, we love them so much. We so hoped we would bump into you and Logan. One place we did love that we are not sure if you’ve done a video on was the Tall Trees trail above Brockenhurst. Would love to watch you do a video there some day. Enjoy the rest of the summer : )

Thank you Carlton. Sounds like you had a great holiday - you certainly packed a lot in! Yes, we have done a video on the "Tall Tree Trail" - although it was one of our first ones & the editing wasn't that great. All the best. Dave & Logan. Another lovely walk, thank you. I don’t know whether you are aware that Corfe Castle was the inspiration for Kirrin island in Enid Blyton’s Famous Five books. The author had many holidays in Dorset (up to three a year) and owned Manor Farm at Stourton Caundle near Sturminster Newton, which she would visit when in the area. This farm was the inspiration for the Famous Five book ‘Five on Finniston Farm’.

Super interesting video. I am behind with my you tube viewing as I took a holiday in Dorset recently staying for 3 days in Poole, 4 days in Lyme Regis and one day in Lymington on my way back. Got into Devon for a couple of walks too. Logan looked like he was drinking in all that history! I admire all the research you do. I think that is what make your videos quite special. And Logan !!

@@DaveFord I will look out for that one. I walked the coastal path both sides of Lyme from West Bay to Beer and also did an inland walk on Wessex Ridgeway / Monarch's Way via Hole Common and Wootton Fitzpane. Some of waymarking was a bit sketchy in places!

Many thanks Dave and Logan that is such a wonderful area, holds memories of camping at Wareham. I think the old machines might be apple crushers, there would have been a hopper on the top and the apples crushed by turning the wheel would fall into a trough then shovelled up on the cider press. Take care,
@DaveFord

Beautiful walk Dave. I’ve been to the castle many times in my life and can even remember when parking was free! Not so familiar with Kingston though, but it certainly looked a lovely village. There is a lot of history around Corfu Castle, as you rightly pointed out. I believe they used gunpowder to blow the walls up, which is why huge sections are lying halfway down the bank. Thanks for showing us on a glorious day.

Lovely video as usual Dave. BtW, what video editing software do you use? The videos are awesome
@DaveFord
@DaveFord 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you Ray. I use Videopad. Whilst technically you can use it for free, I found that 20% of the time when you finished & started to export the video, the software wouldn't go further unless you bought it. So I ended up buying the software (they just send you a code!) for £70 & I now have it for ever. They produce a series of mini tutorials on video (youtube) on various aspects (ie how to add a picture) which makes it easy for the novice just starting. The editing software itself can be a bit "clanky" at times but it does all the basics and everything that I need for my videos. I believe that Davinci Resolve (which is also free) is better & more advanced but I am so used to Videopad I will probably stick with that. I film all my videos in 4K which does produced big files but I think it is worth the effort - especially if folk are watching HD on their TV screens. Cheers. Dave.

@@DaveFord Hi Dave, thanks for the info i will try it. Fyi My late wife and i now live in Australia and your videos brought her (and me) a lot of pleasure during her final few months.
