This is another video in my series “ Walks in Dorset” accompanied by my Whippet (Logan). In this episode, I take a walk in and around Kimmeridge Bay- located on the Jurassic Coast about 5 miles South of Wareham & 7 miles West of Swanage.
After parking my car in a free car park - in a disused quarry just at the Northern end of Kimmeridge - I initially head East, uphill, along the ridge of Smedmore Hill. From there I enjoy super views over to the East (Corfe Castle) and the West (Portland Bill).
I make my way to Swyre Head which is the highest point on the Isle of Purbeck (for more super views) before making my way downhill to join up with the South West Coast Path (SWCP).
My route takes me West along the SWCP to Kimmeridge Bay and along the way I pass the Clavell Tower. Dropping down into the bay, I pass by the Fine Foundation Wild Seas Centre before getting on to the beach itself.
I take a small detour to the West to check out the oil well - the oldest working oil pump in the UK - before heading North along the Hardy Way to the pretty village of Kimmeridge where I explore the church of St Nicholas. My final destination is the Clavells Restaurant for some light refreshment.
The weather was perfect for my walk - a sunny, bright Spring day.
