In this episode of my series “ Walks in Dorset” I take a walk in & around Ringstead Bay which is located about 9 miles South East of Dorchester on the Jurassic Coast.. Once again I am accompanied by my Whippet, Logan.
I start my 4.5 mile circular walk at Ringstead - parking my car at the car park near the beach . There is a toll of £6 a day to park although the National Trust car park on the top of the ridge is cheaper … if you decide to start & finish your walk there.
After a gentle stroll along the beach (dogs are allowed in it “off lead” all year round), I head North East following a footpath across fields up to the top of a ridge. There are some great views of the bay to be seen from the ridge before continuing Eastwards past Sea Barn Farm to the beacons on the cliffs at West Bottom.
I then join the South West Coast Path and head West past the Whitenothe cottages and the old WW2 pillbox before dropping down past Holworth House to check out the delightful wooden church - St Catherine By The Sea.
My homeward leg takes me past the remains of a WW2 radar station bunker back to Ringstead where I end with a cup of coffee at the car park cafe.
