Here's some footage of walking around Namche Bazaar in Nepal with my GoPro HERO4 Silver edition camera and the Zhiyun Rider-M gimbal.
I haven't added any background music because I thought it was cool to hear all the background noise - people talking, construction noise, wind, water running, etc - which in my mind gives it a more authentic feel.
Ok, don't watch this if you are waiting for something exciting to happen but it was a really awesome experience just walking around the streets and looking at all the shops selling adventure gear.
Using the Gimbal definitely gives much better footage than just using the camera handheld as you can see every step. I wouldn't use it all the time for everything but it works here.
Let me know what you think it the comments.
Thank you for watching.

That is my plan. I'm not really up for a long trek, but I have been going to Nepal for the last 25years (on and off) and always said that I should get up there. Now I have set the date.

Enjoyed the video Bryn. Know that I'll never be able to walk in your footsteps. So thanks for taking us along. I have the Evolution Z1. Walking along those narrow streets makes the walking bob, more noticeable. Difficult to roll the feet walking along those rocky streets. :0)

@brynmag 6 жыл бұрын
Hey Dave. Any reason you don't think you'd be able? I have wanted to walk in Nepal for a long time and I started to worry that it would never happen, so spontaneously booked a flight and just went. It was awesome. I think the "Bob" is better for some situations than not using a gimbal at all. You can watch my vlogs when they are finished to see the difference without. I have been super busy but I'm trying to edit them now. Bryn

Great video, I have the same set-up actually. Did you mount the gimbal to your chest or just go handheld? Also, much better with no music. Makes it more relaxing :)
@brynmag
@brynmag 6 жыл бұрын
Handheld mounted on a UFO tripod. It has bendy legs and can be set up almost anywhere. That worked well when I was carrying a pack, where every bit of extra weight is a problem. I also took a BackPack strap mount but didn't use the gimbal for that. The gimbal works better for extended filming blocks rather than stop/start. Yes, I find the lack of music helps me remember the experience as it was. There was something really relaxing about walking around in Namche.

@brynmag
@brynmag 4 жыл бұрын
Everything is either brought in by Plane or Chopper to Lukla then carried up to Namche OR there is an airstrip high above Namche and items need to be carried down. Either way, it's mind-boggling to westerners who are used to driving a car to the shops and back.

You'll love it. Walking around Namche is a relief after the long slog up from the entry gates of Sagarmatha National Park. We stayed high up at the Panorama lodge. I had been carrying a 15/16 KG pack, so this felt ridiculously easy walking around without that weight. The next day we walked up to Kunde Peak and back to Namche for the night. Still went down to town to walk around. Love this place.

I had no idea that the trail to base camp was so overtouristed. What are there...like 500 stores selling cheap puffer jackets? I love how there are big towns well beyond any road system. I guess everything is hauled up by hand or donkeys. I no longer want to go to Namche. There must be lots of less touristy but beautiful treks in Nepal.
@brynmag
@brynmag 3 жыл бұрын
I had no idea what to expect but I loved it. Not at all worried by the number of Trekkers (I wouldn't call them tourists as everyone had to walk a long way to get there). We probably looked through at least half those 500 stores, so interesting. Bought stuff but did a lot of browsing. Out on the trail, beyond Namche, you can walk for a long time without seeing anyone else. I would suspect that other treks in Nepal would be the same. The trails are beautiful and everyone congregates in the town. Most people are happy to share a table and a story. Very social.
