1 thing that I like about WALL-E that not enough people bring up is that if you isolate the parts with just WALL-E the story works, but if you isolate the parts with just the Captain the story also still works. It's 1 of the few Disney films that actually does a subplot that is just as interesting as the main plot.

I love that Dasha watches a wide variety of movies and unlike some KZfaq reactors, is broadminded enough to actually comprehend appreciate them, but seeing her watch movies that make her go "Awww" is a singular delight.

I said in a previous video that in 1994 the 4 guys in charge of Pixar got together for lunch & brainstormed ideas for other films they could make if Toy Story 1 was a success. During that lunch, they came up with the ideas for Toy Story 2, A Bug's Life, Monster's Inc., Finding Nemo, & WALL-E. Well, WALL-E was the last of those 5 films made, 14 years after that lunch took place.

The most romantic and sentimental tearjerker movie ever.

This movie is brilliant. You think it's just about a robot, but it speaks to the Human condition on top of it.

Couple of things: first, you should watch the credits, they're an epilogue of the story, with a sly joke - the song is by Peter Gabriel, who was the first lead singer of Genesis. And, the voice of the ship is Sigourny Weaver, and it's a direct nod to all the scifi she's been in. And, while it may not seem like it on the surface, this was a cyberpunk movie - it has all the key elements; ecological destruction, a megacorp that's assumed governmental powers, loss of humanity through technological dependence, AI or technology running amok, and an iconoclast protagonist that starts off as part of the system but later rebels. And like many c-punk stories, the protagonist seeks some sort of redemption for themselves or others that does not exist in the world they know.

Are you serious? We got to see her tear up, laugh, saw Hugo, and we saw her care about robots and a cockroach. ❤ this might be my favorite video of hers 😊

4:55 the cockroach is there because of an old joke that the only things left after a nuclear war would be Twinkies (cream-filled yellow sponge cake filled with huge amounts of preservatives for longer shelf life) and cockroaches (all human and animal life died from the bombs and fallout, but the cockroaches survived). So WALL-E has a cockroach friend, and he feeds him a Twinkie.

Sometimes a animated cartoon can carry a deeper message. In the end humanity returned back to nature and escaped being dependant upon technology. AUTO is one of the few Disney and Pixar villains to never actually be inherently evil - only acting on orders that he had received. Even his attempted murder of WALL-E was not out of malice. The code AUTO gets to never return to Earth is A-113, a code used in many other Pixar films. It references the classroom at the California Institute of Arts where Andrew Stanton, the director of the film and other Pixar staff learned animation. This is the first (and only known) time A-113 was incorporated into the film's plot, as well as the second time overall that a Pixar Easter egg has a major role in a Pixar film, with the first being the license plate of the Pizza Planet truck used by the toys to chase down Al during Toy Story 2. AUTO is the only robot in the film who speaks in full, unprogrammed sentences the way humans do. The Stewards' sentences do not count, because it is programmed inside them. AUTO also appears in the WALL-E short film BURN-E, but only as a very minor character. AUTO is the only main Pixar antagonist who temporarily succeeds at killing the main protagonist, but still ends up being defeated in the end. AUTO's "voice actor" is so far the only case where Pixar has used a non-human thing to voice a talking character. Due to AUTO's apparent lack of true sentience (he was always very mechanical) it is very possible he was just following his program - however, when a machine follows its program, it can easily be seen as "evil" by human beings since a being that is run purely by logic does not have the capability to understand ethics (in fact, ethics are often the opposite of logic) - this means beings that follow program often appear ruthless, authoritarian and even evil: the idea of a being void of emotion is alien to a lot of humans, and thus is seen as negative regardless of whether or not the character itself is "good" or "bad". Another theory states that he is neither "logical" nor "ethical". However, ethics, which govern proper conduct, must always be in accordance with reason. It can be said that a rational being would interpret mankind's position in the Axiom as physically and intellectually decadent, while their return to Earth shows a realization of duty and a sense of active control over their own fate. Because such a solution is defended in this way, it can be argued as the ethically correct solution for the way humans behave. Often, a cold and emotionless logician does not factor in some of the subjective values that must be taken into account when considering the conduct of people, but AUTO is not trying to think of the best course for humanity. Thus, he is illogical. He operates logically within the confines of his programming, but this is limited to a single mission: "stay the course," and "do not return to Earth." He only thinks of the most efficient way to keep these things true. Thus, he is not "evil" in the sense that he has malice or ill-intent for his own self-benefit. No, he doesn't think at all, he just does. He is an extension of an outdated order from centuries past. He is amoral, though his actions, not the being, are immoral because they would ultimately harm mankind.

With many comedic scenes in movies, I laugh the first time or two I see it, and from there on it makes me smile, but rarely actually laugh out loud. The scene where Wall-E puts a dirty tread print on Mo's face is one of the exceptions. It always makes me laugh. Never gets old.

What Dasha said at the end about getting attached to a robot girl and a robot boy made me reflect on a KZfaq reactor on different channel who said she couldnt feel sad watching the opening of "Up" because the characters were "obviously not real." That difference reminded me of psychological studies about different people's ability or inability to feel empathy for anthropomorphized inanimate objects.

Genuinely one of my favorite films of all time. When I saw it in theaters, I realized how good Pixar had gotten at storytelling without words after Wall-E was repaired and didn’t act like himself anymore, because I heard a little kid say out loud, “Wall-E died…” Some trivia for you, the voice of Wall-E was provided by someone very important to the history of robots in cinema, Ben Burtt. He’s a sound effects engineer who created pretty much every sound effect in Star Wars, including R2-D2, lightsabers, TIE fighters, Darth Vader’s breathing sounds, as well as single handedly popularizing the Wilhelm Scream. The lifeboat Eve tries to send Wall-E away in is numbered 1912… because that was the year the Titanic sank, an important year for lifeboats. The voice of the computer of the Axiom, where the captain gets his information about Earth, is provided by Sigourney Weaver, who plays Ripley in the Alien films.

Every time in the first act she's like "Aww, it's so adorable!" "It's so beautiful!" I just start beaming because I'm thinking "Oh, you ain't seen nothin yet." This is my favorite Pixar movie by a mile. And a strong candidate for my favorite movie full stop.

WALL-E and UP were Pixar being MASTERS at "showing, not telling" in regard to story-elements. Not just settings, but history, life arcs, and emotional connections. So sad that this type of visual representation has been lowered over the years. But during the WALL-E/Up era, they were far better at it than anyone else.

Wall-E is one of my favorite movies. With so little dialogue they were able to tell a love story. Loved your laugh when Wall-E put dirt on MOs face. 😀 Love the Hugo cameos too. 🐶

At the end of “The Martian,” when Matt Damon uses the oxygen tank to fly, he references “WALL.E,” a fun callback.

The future humans are not supposed to be obese; they are meant to be like babies. Babies sit or lie all the time, they can’t move or do things on their own, and all their needs are provided for them by someone else. But when it’s time, they start learning, and walking, and doing things for themselves. Even the humans’ clothing is meant to resemble a baby’s onesie.

Wall-E is an animated masterpiece. The amount of character and emotion they managed to draw out of basic shapes and almost no dialogue is just amazing.

We learned from The Martian though that plants would flash-freeze on exposure to the (relative) vacuum of Mars's very low pressure atmosphere, and certainly to the vacuum of space, which would kill the plant.

Waiting for the girl I loved to remember me.. To remember who she used to be... And it didn't happen.. She died last June in my arms with me telling her that it was going to be ok and that I loved her.. The girl I fell in love with never came back... And now I am truly alone..

Hi Dasha! I love WALL-E, it's so touching. And the late great trumpeter & vocalist Louis Armstrong crooning classic tunes. *sigh* "It only takes a moment." A cpl of the songs that are sung used in this film are from movie musical, HELLO, DOLLY! starring Barbra Streisand, Walter Matthau and and British actor Michael Crawford (whom originated the role of the "Phantom" in the musical THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA in London's West End & on Broadway in 1987 & 88. I was a teenager when I saw it back then). Gotta love Sigourney Weaver's voice on the ship. She's terrific as a voice actor. Excellent reaction as always.

If you watch the credits at the end of the movie you'll get an idea of what happened after they got back to Earth! It shows them eventually building things and getting thinner and back to a healthier way of life!!

Such an enjoyable movie, and I loved your reaction, Dasha. It is not just another "Robot Love Story", of course. It has so Much Heart. But on a serious note, it also provides clues for a current topic, the potential dangers of Artificial Intelligence. Otto, programmed to serve the Captain as best he could, had trouble compensating for a changing situation, and became the enemy. An internet-connected AI that misunderstands something -- anything -- could be quite dangerous.

@DashaReacts There's a Russian reference in Wall-E that I think you missed. When Wall-E is hanging on to the outside of the rocket ship as it takes off from Earth, and it crashes through a whole bunch of satellites in orbit, one satellite briefly gets stuck to Wall-E's head. When he turns his head the satellite detaches and floats away. That satellite is Sputnik!

A very underrated film suggestion that I know you wil LOVE… What Dreams May Come starring Robin Williams and Cuba Gooding Jr. TV show that someone with your attention to detail would be fun to watch is The Last of Us. It’ll make you absolutely SOB, but the story is worth it. 9 episodes, it is a modern day classic.

While Incredibles is by far my #1 Pixar film. Wall-E is a Mary Poppins category of movie as in “Practically perfect in every way” The ending OMG, Urgency, Herculean effort, followed by hope then utter despair… and well you know the conclusion. This is a perfect movie to see Dasha’s reaction. Still want her to see Ladyhawke.

It's weird how all the junk on Earth in the first act is all from like a century before humans even fled the planet. An old, top-loading VHS. An old game of pong. A CRT television with dials on it and shit. It's like a version of Earth that never advanced past 1979... except for the near-instantanious interstellar travel.

One of my favorite animated movies.

I had a fish thing too. Mine sang "Let it snow". It was a christmas gift from my cousin, and I hope it was a regift and he didn't spend money buying me that. If it was just hanging there, it was ok, but when it sang it was like a dead fish moving, really creepy. I remember I didn't want it in my room when sleeping.

I've loved this movie since I first watched it. It's a beautiful series of love stories (Wall-E and Eve, Helpful Purpose or "directive", Friendship, Loyalty, Humanity, Earth, etc.) But until today I didn't know how much I wanted to hear Dasha say Rrrrogue Rrrrrrrrrobots. :-)

🤖👍 If it's of interest, the movie that Wall-E is obsessed with is the 1969 musical, "Hello Dolly" which is well worth watching in it's own right. The use of it in this film was a harbinger of things to come, as a decade later, Disney wound up purchasing 20th Century Fox.
