This is our Group Reaction & Review to WALL-E (2008). In this movie we see, WALL•E (Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-Class) is the last robot left on Earth, programmed to clean up the planet, one trash cube at a time. However, after 700 years, he's developed one little glitch-a personality. He's extremely curious, highly inquisitive, and a little lonely.

Auto is probability the best written ai villain. He’s simply following his orders and isn’t driven by emotion like most of the robots and people. The scariest part is that he’s right. In the condition the people are in there’s no way they would realistically survive.

I think its more that the job of the robots is to make life as easy as possible for the humans so bringing them to earth will make their lives too difficult, so to achieve auto's directive they keep them on the ship, but the end credits scene shows that they actually do, obviously with the help with robots, they thrive.

1 thing that I like about WALL-E that not enough people bring up is that if you isolate the parts with just WALL-E the story works, but if you isolate the parts with just the Captain the story also still works. It's 1 of the few Disney films that actually does a subplot that is just as interesting as the main plot.
@CyberChunk77

Also they made a film where the most compelling part has literally no dialogue! That's a no no for Disney shit. In all of their properties they can't wait to quip the shit outta you. This film is so clean.

"There are so many people who wouldn't want everything handed to them." True, but it also shows that wasn't the case at first. However, as y'all said that, it showed WHY it was like that. The second+generations were taught from birth to NOT DO ANYTHING for themselves. And when that's drilled into kids, it's NOT gonna leave them as adults (besides a rare few, like John and the woman. Who are the first people within 4-5 generations to do so.)

The woman's name was Mary. And yeah, but it's also that Mary and John were both pushed into it. Mary had Wall-E first turn off the screen in front of her face, and John had Mary grab him to do the same to show him Wall-E and Eve dancing (he still had a screen on after meeting Wall-E). So they could expand their horizons once given a push and a chance. It's just that most humans weren't given a chance, til then.

Also given that the Axiom started as a luxury space cruise, the first passengers were likely very rich and indulgent people who were used to that kind of automated service to begin with.

A ship owned by a company, where the robots run things, the children are grown in test tubes, the people are raised as the optimal consumers and the only food is recycled waste from the last generation (no elderly to be seen). It’s a story where a massive company killed the planet for money, then sent the surviving people on a ship promising a save planet to return to, trapping them there for almost a thousand years. The plot to wall e could have easily been a horror film instead of a kids animation

1 thing I have often wondered is how many humans were on the Axiom? We are never given an exact number, but it has gotta be in the few thousand after 700 years and multiple generations being raised on it. Also, it's suggested early in the film that there were other cruise ships out there besides the Axiom, yet they are not shown returning to Earth at the end.

The people arent hypnotized by the screens. Not purposefully. Mary is astonished by the "world" around her because she never looks up from the screen right in front of her, and everyone else's face (smartphones.) Everything in WALL-E is a precautionary tale about pollution and becoming too reliant on technology. The people become fat and sedentary not only because they're absorbed by the tech around them but also because a 0 gravity environment will cause your muscles and bones to atrophy, even with regular exercise. It warns us about giving our entire lives to big corporations (Wal-Mart, Amazon, Google, etc.) who only pollute and kill our planet in return. It warns us about what will become of our planet, and us, if we don't stop them and change our ways.

being in space long term is very hard on the body. Astronauts have to work very hard to stay active because the body isn't designed to exist in space for long stretches. The years spent in space with the autopilot meant that just feeding and entertaining the humans was the fastest way to ensure they survived- by all counts they would still be healthy at that size, just not super agile obviously. I think the first generation back on earth would have a lot of rehab and health problems when they returned to earth as their bones and ligaments would not be used to any strain at all not even mentioning earths denser gravity, but with all that tech to help them future generations of babies would be more normal body shapes again due to natural human activity. I also think from a science standpoint, that Auto was also controlling the population and births through invitro fertilization, as studies have shown that when in space animals and insects lose all drive to reproduce, so this first generation would also be the first generation in centuries to have sex lol I think lots of people were repulsed by the fat humans in wall.e, because many people see fatness as unhealthy or unattractive. I think it was an interesting choice to have them all that shape, as you could have shown the effects of sedentary lifestyles without fat, as there are plenty of skinny paraplegics and bedridden people, not to mention folks who's lifestyles are naturally sedentary like gamers, and office workers. Fatness is a natural part of life, and isnt an indicator of healthiness or fitness.

There's actually a "Film Theory" that is exactly about the second question you're asking on the KZfaq-channel "The Film Theorists" as well as theory that essentially says "WALL-E is Satan." or rather asks "Could people say that WALL-E is Satan?". That second theory might make you think that Matthew Robert Patrick (also known as "MatPat" who's behind that channel as well as the channels "The Game Theorists", "GTLive", "The Food Theorists" and "The Style Theorists") might have gone completely insane (to be fair the same goes for a lot of his theories) but what's kinda scary if you want to call it that is that you might go something along the lines of "Oh damn, he's right!" wheen you're done watching the theory. To find them you can just search for "Film Theory Wall-E" to find them as quickly as possible. If you see this comment and do watch either one (or both) of the theories that I just referred to above could you please let me know what you thought of them afterwards (as well as why and whatnot, ideally)?

my theory was walle was the only one actually paying attention, actually present in the moment, and learned to be concious. All the other walles just focused on their task and did nothing else except recharge, and fell into disrepair. Walle has a genuine curiosity about everything and this 'present-ness' changed everyone he came in contact with. Everyone, including the robots, were just in auto pilot, going through the motions of life, but walle smashed through it and changed everyone he came in contact with, human or robot. It is so easy to be constantly distracted, constantly online, constantly disconnected from what is truly going on in your life, that the humans didn't even notice the world they were living in. From birth till death they were just being bombarded by pleasurable things and never need to do anything for themselves. No one even stopped to look at the person right next to them or considered what to do with there life since those concepts don't even exist anymore after centuries of being 'plugged in', they only considered what they wanted in the current moment and were given it. Goals, hopes, and dream became obsolete since life was perfect but lost what made it truly special. This is a truly deep movie that conveys so much with very little dialogue. Walle wanted more and despite being a machine and his perspective, without ever communicating it, changed the path for all humanity.

I always understood the humans as getting bigger due to real world astronaut issues, when in space there’s a lack of gravity and so the human skeletal and muscles systems don’t have the gravitational force/pressure keeping the body constantly compressed at average height. (We just like trees and buildings can only grow as tall as wind pressure/gravity allows/tectonic shifts-elevation levels allow) astronauts usually return to earth after their space trips with extended spines and the vertebrae does slowly separate there’s also the issue with bone density the longer something is in space the less dense their bones become. If they’ve been in space for generations atleast 600 years the bones will be dramatically separated and less dense then their ancestors who had physical strain and activity making the muscles hold the bones in place and not dislocate, yet since they were born in space (already a soft body with bone separation) there’s no reason to work the muscles and have mobility and no strains to force bones to grow -we walk vertically and our organs function in a different way then when lying horizontally for prolonged periods of time. What’s interesting is that they possibly have such large fat reserves to prevent issues like bed sores/discomfort when jostled like how a seal or penguin does to not only aid in thermoregulation but in blunt force trauma when hitting waves/rocks/ice with their body. It’s why there’s a mandatory return period (except for cases where individuals are stranded) so that the astronauts can become accustomed to not only gravity but receive medical aid. As even cardiovascular issues can occur if left in space too long. (Plants can sorta thrive in 0 gravity environments as the parts of the root that determine gravity get hella confused and the root systems grow out of control unless they conform to the water drip systems and then the roots will only grow along the water/surface tension/in a hydroponic and heavier density environment (it would be like putting your hand in the hair and grabbing nothing but putting your hand in water and not being able to pull it out because the water is more dense then the air(on an atomic level and when comparing volume& weight of both -an empty water bottle is lighter then a new full bottle because water has weight) )

53:04 - What a shame you skipped the beginning of the film credits 😔 At the beginning of the credits, they put on a cartoon animation telling how they evolved a lot after arriving on Earth. You would really like it. 😔 Or did you watch the animation in the credits? 🤔
