a story i thought of behind the song-- a man loses his memory. despite it, he tries to rekindle with his best friend. but as weeks and months stretches on, he finds that his best friend doesnt recognize him anymore, and that who he is now doesnt equal who he used to be. eventually, they drift away. and the man decides to let the chasm between them grow until the blaze dies down and theres nothing left but cinders, setting off to create new memories for himself. his former best friend remains lost, unable to shake away the (past) ghost of him.
