Thanks! Whomever invented wallpaper was evil!....LOL. One thing I didn't really go over was that whichever method you use, it will likely still leave a lot of paste on the wall. While you don't have to do it immediately, you will likely have to really wash down your walls to remove the paste within a day or so. I used a wet sponge on the walls as well as the scraper (dry wall knife) I show at the 10:00 minute mark to lightly scrape off the wet gunky paste left behind after removing the wallpaper. Had to wash it down a couple of times - took longer than removing the wallpaper with the steamer! Make sure to remove as much paste as possible before you do any wall repair or paint the walls But the steamer did really help to remove the wallpaper without damaging the walls significantly. Then just add in the sweat equity of washing and lightly scraping off with wet paste from the walls. Good luck to you!

Glad I could help! I've since moved from that house into another which has NO wallpaper....LOL

The heat and steam help to liquefy the underlying glue that holds the wallpaper to the wall. When you pull down the wallpaper, some of the glue remains on the wallpaper but some also remains on the wall. Therefore, after you remove the wallpaper you will need to wash/rinse down the wall to remove the residual glue. I know of no method that completely removes the glue from the wall after removing the wallpaper. Even the wallpaper remover sprays that say they eat away the glue still leave residual glue on the wall. You should always wash down the wall prior to any wall repair and/or painting.

It seemed like the bathroom paper was vinyl while the borders in the bedroom were paper. I think that is why the bedroom border came off in two layers....a top paper layers and then a paper layer underneath. Whereas the bathroom paper being vinyl came off as one nice long sheet with nothing sticking to the wall

@@dbreardon Thank you because I was doing the vinegar water method and finally got one of the wall papers to budge and it wasn't as glossy as the non budgeable vinyl borders and wallpaper. But it is time consuming as makes a mess and the vinyl paper doesn't respond to the spray bottle method even with the scoring. I will try this steamer.

Standard drywall. Not sure how this would work on straight plaster.

Yeah, I guess I did blow it by not showing the unit. Basically it is rectangular and hold about a 1/2 gallon to gallon of water. Then you just plug it in and it begins to heat up....there is NO on or off switch. The unit is sealed so you fill it up at the sink through a small hole (1 1/2 inches or so) in the top with a screw on/off cap. There is a fill line on the side to tell you when to stop filling it but a bit difficult to see. I actually sold the unit after I finished using it. It worked great for my application and would highly recommend it (or a steamer in general) if you plan to remove wallpaper. I don't know who invented wallpaper but it was a terrible idea that has fallen out of favor.....but like all things.....it will probably come back into vogue again soon.

I turned the stream plate so the hose was vertical, placed the steamer plate on the facing wall....the wall I was working on....with the right edge of the steamer plate between the left side of the door fascia and the wall and lifted the steamer plate up slightly to let the steam leak out on the right hand side of the steamer plate between wall and door. It was enough to loosen the wallpaper to pull it way from the wall at the corner. For other areas where I have a bit more width, I used the smaller steamer plate that I showed at the end of the video.
