I am more interested in accuracy vs speed, they can be fast as it wants but i want an accurate temp. Never owned a thermapen but i own a lava tools javelin pro and it has been great

I've gone through four cheap instant read pen style thermometers. Even if they start out accurate they can't maintain it over time. Now for Christmas I have a Thermalpen One, and a Thermoworks Dot I'm using the Dot on a 10 lb standing rib roast and the sense of relief that I feel knowing I have an accurate internal read on that $90 roast is amazing

Well. I kind of like the thermopen because of the speed. I don’t want to have my smoker lid open any longer then it needs to be, also, when temping your meat, and smoke rolling, it burns the eyes! So a quick read thermometer would help in that case. I think I’m gonna pull the trigger. Thermopen one is on sale at the moment for 78 USD

I’ve dropped two of the Walmart ones in the sink and broke the plastic sleeve that holds the probe on two more so I’ve spent roughly $50 on them in the last year and a half so I bought a thermapen. It’s waterproof and has a 5 year warrantee I think I’ll be money ahead in the long run

I was thinking of sticking my finger in the ice with my Iwatch and see how long it takes to register. I know when you stick your finger on something hot it registers quicker than the thermo pin, that’s with or without the Iwatch.

OFC It's worth $105. If it was $205 i would go as far to say it would be worth that. They last forever, they're fast and they're accurate. I have bought those cheap ones in the past before, but they never last. Although, everyone is different. Spend more money upfront for a product that will take accurate temp readings within a second and stay within 1°F accuracy for like a decade or replace a cheap $10 Thermometer every year or even sooner? story time, When i still used those cheap instant reads, i've had displays burn up just from the heat of the oven / stove and grill when cooking, and break from water getting into the probe from leaving it out while cooking during a small rain fall. It was at one point and time, a new instant read Thermometer like every 4 or 5 months.

I have the thermopen and totally recommend it. It's vey fast and very accurate. The $10.00 one was painfully slow and it wasn't accurate. Look at the air temp readings when both are sitting on your table.

I'm a "buy once cry once" type, so I went with the Thermapen One. Everyone who has them says they last for many years, I like having the peace of mind with the waterproofing, really like the simplicity (I don't need extra timers and such), it has a 5 year warranty, and while it might not be 1 second fast, it's still incredibly fast!

Thanks TOOOOM! I think I would research a middle of the road one. I've found the ten dollar types do take longer, as your demonstration shows. But also, the cheaper ones break much quicker. Still, 105 bucks? I'm not sold on that quite yet. Thanks for the demonstration.

I’ve got many Thermapen products and love them all .. high price .. yes- but as the saying goes “you get what you pay for” my Thermapen products although expensive are very fast, accurate etc., and since lasting quality is high up on the list for me it’s my go to choice .. I’m not interested in going through a new product if I don’t need to so often just to learn how it works again and again .. I’ll be able to pass these down to our kids.. just so happens I’m using my new Thermapen Smoke X right now for the first time … on a beef brisket on my Primo XL Komodo .. I can see there’s a learning curve using it but I’m sure I’ll get used to it quick enough .. but hey it’s good to know there’s a range of other products out there for folks to use to give them choices ..!! Thanks for the reviews ..!! Most of my thermapen products are in that lime green color too ..👍🏻

I've had a Maverick for years, and love it. But I'd never spend big dollars again. Have a cheapy like you've just shown, and apart from being slower, it still works just as good as the Maverick. ive had a ton of thermometers and always had problems with them being inaccurate. most of the time ive had better results by poking the meat with my finger rather than temping it and after pulling a beautiful tomahawk ribeye at 120 (before rest and sear) only to find it completely raw when cutting into it i bit the bullet on a thermapen one. havent tried it yet, but if it doesnt do me dirty like my last thermometer then its well worth the price to me.

You said the Walmart one was 5-6 seconds. You put it in the water at 3:52 and it hit 32 degrees at 4:05. So that would be more like 12-13 seconds. That’s a huge difference. Why do you think most people in BBQ competitions use the thermapen?

your seconds count is impaired my friend, according to your video clock it was about 14 sec (3:52 to 4:06) for the cheap walmart thermometer, not 6 secs, compared to under 2secs for the thermopen, when your hand is over a 500F burning grill try to keep it there for 14 sec, then tell me which one will you buy , I had the cheap therm (from amazon) for a while and now and I got all LLLLL on it so it's in trash, I ordered another cheapo from Amazon and it took forever to reach temp so I folded and order the thermapen, and the Amazon one is going back you get what you pay for.
