I just got one! I saw somebody posted in one of the streaming groups on Facebook and got online and happened to get the last one that was available out of about 10 Walmart stores in the Washington DC area. I had to drive to Alexandria, Virginia, which was about 20 miles away, I tried to buy more and they weren’t available. Thank you, Lon! I truly appreciate all of your videos and reviews and you’re just a genuinely nice guy! And have a good rest of your weekend

This is EXACTLY what my parents need. Unlike the $20 .onn Box, this both has a USB port AND supports reading files from exFAT formatted storage. Load up Projectivy Launcher & VLC, setup a USB drive with their DVD/Blu-ray content (and my mom’s dance workout videos… 😂) and suddenly they have a portable, easy to use, **offline** box while travelling or experiencing internet outages! At 1/4 the price of a Shield Pro!! Remarkable…

Thanks for this, I'm definitely going to buy one for testing now! The 1st-gen Walmart Onn 4k streaming boxes support NTFS for external storage using a standard Android OTG adapter, but the 2nd-gen is limited to FAT32! Since this new Pro version includes an actual USB port and 32GB of internal storage, this is a no-brainer decision for folks wanting a neato Kodi box to play all their 4k 100% public-domain content () offline! Note: Nerdy folks can install LineageOS on the 1st-gen devices to enable exFAT support...

@@pedrojardon8122 I cannot recommend it enough! The Shield Pro still beats it in a couple of areas (namely, raw performance) but the 3GB of RAM & 32GB of internal storage helps a LOT. It’s just so frustrating that the 2nd-gen is so limited comparatively, though… (Here’s hoping it gets LineageOS someday!) One note on the exFAT support: it seems like the device won’t mount anything on startup. You need to plug or unplug/replug your USB storage once the box is fully booted. Not the biggest deal in the world but something to note if you are using it as a travel box. (It really does make a fantastic offline box!)

@@purplefuku the shield pro is $200 and the ONN Pro is $50. Can't compare a Rolls Royce to a Honda. That is why I own 2 Shields, I call it android on steroids .

Onn 4k Pro Google TV Streaming Box is extremely easy to set up and use. I love the features on this device, such as hey google, chromcast and dolby vision.

I also don't like how the Google TV dedicated app page doesn't just show all the apps on a single vertical page (like it used to in Android 9), and instead forces you to scroll side ways to see them.

It's a nice box and a good value. Got the one with the "Free TV"/backlit buttons. One thing I found is that it currently doesn't support Sling TV, which I think has the best interface for FAST channels.

Hey LON I bought one and I think it's pretty good. I'm glad they added Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos on this model. I didn't get a backlit remote control either. Oh well it's not the end of the world not getting a better remote control.

Thanks Lon for this review. Just the extra memory, Ethernet plug and USB make it worth the extra cost. You would have to spend $30 to purchase a hub attached to the oll ONN to get the same thing if you needed Ethernet. I have the $20 ONN box and find it as good if not better than my original Chomecast with GTV. Can you consider testing this box with the GT Media Next Gen tuner to see if you get any better performance out of the GT Media stick?

I bought mine solely based on it having additional RAM. 3GB vs the normal 2GB makes a real difference in overall performance for the basics of just simply navigating interfaces.

@@lionintu Onn 4K Pro boxes that include the premium remote appear to have manufacturing dates of 2410A, 2411A, and 2412A. Boxes that have dates of 2405A through 2408A include the standard remote. I have not yet seen anyone post about boxes labeled as 2409A.

I doubt as present time all TV's are integrated with Google tv interface, I too did wait longer for a perfect Google tv box like all Pro features like Roku ultra with a battery remote and headphone jack rechargeable battery. Google TV box should be with Ethernet, latest Wi-Fi 6E, USB c and USB 3.0 with Bluetooth 5 option.

GOOD STUFF Lon, thanks for the real world review. I think this will be a popular choice since amazon is driving customers away in droves with its overbearing control & bloat. For instance, I'm just looking for something comparable to Firestick but with more storage & more control. I won't be using it for gaming so that doesn't concern me. As you said, it is disappointing that it won't play music like other assistant speakers do...I hope this gets added soon with an update.

I wonder if music only going through HDMI is related to KZfaq being ad supported and this is a gentle push to make you turn on a display? Google made an audio only Chromecast but quickly snuffed it out. Does it function differently with a music subscription?

Finally got one of these after searching for nearly a week. I'm pretty impressed. Real world performance is quite snappy compared to the 2023 model and is nearly as fast as my Shield Pro.

How well does the tablo app perform? On my firestick 4k max 1st gen it takes forever for the tablo app to load and navigate around. Playback, fast fwd and rewind are fine but opening videos and deleting videos suck.

I got Plex on now, Star Wars 4K remastered, smooth as glass. Kodi plays 20gb 4ks no problem. Tivimate live TV never a problem. The new Onn Pro, and a wifi 1g spectrum connection.

This actually looks pretty decent for the price. I need something for before bed and during workouts that can stream well. I had considered a Xbox Series S but don't really want to drop $300 when I'm mostly going to stream video. Assuming the Wi-Fi in this thing is solid (it'll have to stretch all the way to the other side of the apartment), I think I may just grab this. Being able to load up some old Google Play game purchases is a decent bonus, along with being able to use it offline with a USB drive. It honestly seems more consumer-friendly than other big name brands (like Roku), and that's something I'm happy to support. Honestly, I'm surprised it's coming from Wal-Mart, of all companies. 😅

I received the same remote. I wanted to have the speaker to work with the TV. I have the Roku soundbar I use with my PC. I thought I could use the Onn in my bedroom. My TV there is very quiet. I want to add an ATSC3 tuner to it. As soon as a good option is available. If I were Walmart, I'd drop the $15 streamer. I would just feature the 4k and this one. I use Roku for my main TV. That is still my favorite. But these little boxes are great

There's definitely a market for people for the $15 one. Like my mom and my sister could give a s*** about 4K. And they've been able to get ridiculous deals on 1080p TVs as a result

Amlogic has really gotten some mileage out of the S905 platform. I guess if it isn't broke reiterate. My LePotato SBC runs on the S905 1st gen been a good board.

The issue I can see is how often and what priority will this get for apps when there is an issue or an update? I have used almost every popular streaming device and all apps across different brands run and look differently. Some apps break on one device and do not on others. Some apps have extra features (Fubo on Apple 4K for example) and some don't. The developers have to be on top of updating the apps for these different platforms and I wonder how Onn will fare when something goes wrong.

I'm in the same boat, I'm ok with my Chromecast with Google TV at this time, navigating the interface can be a bit jenky at times, but other than that it does everything I as of it. I'm curious to see what version 2 has in stock.

Thanks for the review Lon. Do you know if this box supports USB audio? In other words can I connect a USB DAC to the USB port and then connect the DAC to an amp rather than using HDMI for audio?

Mine works fine when playing 24fps content. Go into Display & Sound > Match content frame rate > and set it to seamless. Plex works fine for me as well. Even streaming high bit rate 4K. Also, you can get wired gigabit networking with a usb hub with gigabit ethernet built in or via a usb gigabit nic. Finally, it DOES support exfat format over usb, as some people are saying it only supports Fat32. They're wrong, my exfat formatted usb flash drive with 156GB of game roms works just fine. Just do not enable "usb debugging" in developer options if you want to be able to see your usb flash drive, ext HDD, etc. via retro arch. Oh, and turn transition animations down to .5 in the developer options. It makes it much more snappy. Hope this helps answer some questions people may have.

In this case, "pro" just means additional connectivity from Ethernet and USB. I bet you were running into thermal issues with the GeForce Now session. It's a cheap device with expected outcomes. Thanks for the review!

2:18 is the device showing up in Google Home? If so can you open it in Home, hit the settings cog (⚙️) then hit "Audio"? My Google Home devices have a setting for default music player output.

Lon, since this has USB 3, do you think this would have enough power to be a Plex server or a Channels DVR server? It has the same amount of ram as the Shield does and that runs them both.

Unlikely it'll do well at that - I don't think the hardware will support transcoding.

The Onn Pro Box runs good but, the video output quality is not as bright as other boxes. I have a Verizon Andoid Tv Box, The first Onn TV box, A NVidia Shield TV Pro 2017 and 2019 Box.. The verizon Box, The first Onn and second Box shows Brighter while the other boxes show the video quality slightly darker. You have to raise the brightness.. The Nvidia shield Tv Pro is not Vivid like the Verizon & The first and second onn boxes.

Might as well use WiFi, as long as your network supports Wi-Fi 6 & your coverage is good those speeds will easily exceed what you get on that ancient Ethernet port.

@@LonSeidman What?I am talking about the setting on the device itself I have not found anything like that in the app settings.Hulu will force 4k if available unless I set my firestick to show 1080 in the display settings of the firestick.

Yes you can click the gear icon on the remote and force it to a 1080p resolution overall. Similar to other Google / Android TV devices.

When you had network issues, were you using Ethernet or WiFi? Other reviews have shown the WiFi is faster. Another review tested a USB Gigabit Ethernet adapter, and got over 400Mb.

I have only tried wifi on mines and it seems pretty fast with my wifi 6 network. I was running 4k movies from my Plex server over the wifi perfectly. So for that reason I am already happy with my purchase.

Should have came with a Gigabit Ethernet port instead of the obsolete 10/100 port. That would be more useful than the remote finder button or any of the other gimmicks.

Looks great, but i abandoned my shield and firetv max for apple tv. I just love the no ads and simple interface plus it works amazing with airpods. Infuse works great over kodi.

I dumped my Shield TVs too. Have an Apple TV in the living room and a Raspberry Pi 5 for the minor watching I do in the bedroom. Won't have any streaming box or streaming service full of ads. Sick of the same insurance ads over and over.

I replaced my Google Chromecast With Google TV 4K with this Onn TV 4K Pro Box and honestly the Onn TV 4K Pro Box performs way better and it doesn't have Lag or Slowness like the Google Chromecast With Google TV 4K. If Walmart can keep these Devices Updated consistently and keep them at a good Price then I think they will take over Amazon and possibly even Google Roku and Apple for the best Streaming Devices out there. I'm still keeping my Google Chromecast With Google TV 4K as a Backup because that's what Google has over Onn is consistent Updates since Google is Stock Android but like I said if Walmart can keep the Onn Brand Devices Updated consistently then I can surely see them leading the way with the best Streaming Devices. You also get way more with the Onn TV 4K Pro Box then you do with the Google Chromecast With Google TV 4K or other Brand Streaming Devices especially at a $50.00 Dollar Price point you can't beat it.

It looks good, but they say that the Dolby Vision on Netflix is always on. You have to manually turn it off, it that true? It should automatically knows when to turn it off.

@@john26262 Th Firetv Cube 3 doesn't have a Gigabit Ethernet port. The network port is 10/100. It has a USB 2.0 port you can use for an Gigabit Ethernet adapter but USB 2.0 speeds are less than half the speed of Gigabit Ethernet. Amazon went the cheap route with the ports of their Flagship model.

The main reason that I purchased this was because of the lag on my Chromecast 4K with Google TV. I set this new Onn 4K Pro up, but I've been out of town so haven't had a chance to test it. Is lag an issue on this device?

Yes; this is a huge problem with the cheaper $20 Onn box also. They get extremely laggy. I’m not too optimistic this “Pro” box will fare any better in the longer term.

@@fryeguy115 No. I’m saying that I suspect the new Pro device will exhibit the same lag issues after a time as the other products - especially the cheaper $20 Onn box. It was pretty snappy when new too, but it doesn’t last long. Even the CCwGTV has suffered the same fate, albeit the hardware is nearing 4 years old there.

We are not going to have this official in our Walmart in Canada, exactly like last one , we should to buy this from eBay or Amazon after very long period of time for 2,3 times of the money you guys paying if we are lucky, So many people doesn't have even the last onn box , Wich is so sad for us even with 2 hours drive a part

GeForce Now hasn't locked up for me at all, although I'm using a Wi-Fi 6 connection that delivers about 600 Mbps up and down. Surprised that Lon didn't at least try Wi-Fi in order to see if that made a difference. Also, would have preferred to see plex and USB 3.0 actually being tested, rather than just commentary about how poorly they both performed. Would have liked to see what does work in plex, rather than just commentary about what doesn't work. Also, USB 3.0 tests well for me. For example, it will allow a USB 3.0 gigabit ethernet adapter to deliver around 500+ Mbps. I'm hopeful that improved plex audio support may come with firmware updates, since the processor does support all of those formats.

I have 300 internet speed from my provider and I only can get around 70 down on both wifi and Ethernet......but my Nvidia is getting 300 on both wifi and Ethernet.....wonder if am missing anything in settings

It should but mine didn't. In the menu it says Format Info, Enabled Format HDR10, HDR10+. But it doesn't play either one. My Firestick Max and Shield do. My Denon receiver "Info" shows when HDR content is being played. My TV is Samsung QN85A.

Not sure why companies are still putting 10/100 Ethernet on things. Is it that much cheaper? Otherwise, I say it's about time someone released a sub $100 Google TV device with ethernet and USB ports. Did you happen to test a USB camera and Google Meet? On a side note, I'm still wishing they would release these Assistant speakers with a headphone jack so it could replace the retired Chromecast Audio.
