German here, have visited usa on work trips several times. The role of the greeter always felt so fake to me. It is obvious that the person doing the greeting doesn't want to do it and truly doesn't give a shit about your general presence. And everybody comming through the door just knows that, and doesn't care for it either. Who on earth is convinced that having a greeter is a great idea? All it does (in my eyes) is convey a strong sense of a very, very bad attempt of brainwashing people into feeling appreciated. It makes me squirm inside, this blatant act of insincerity and greed. The workers really are scared of union representatives. One store was taking steps towards a union meeting, and was completely closed because of it. So, many workers have it in their head that if they spoke to a representative everyone could end up losing their jobs because of it. As far as the “ open door policy” they would say management couldn’t retaliate if people express concerns. However, I’ve seen them pick people apart later, and fire them for meaningless stuff. Everyone knew that wasn’t what it was really about though. At two points during my career there they fired a large amount of people who were close to retirement for petty reasons. I worked as an optician for a long time, and would not recommend it to anyone. It was underpaid, and I ended up personally screwed over so many times. Worked open to close, came in on days off, acted as manager whenever we were without one for up to six months at a time. I’m from a small group of towns with little employment opportunities. Eventually I quit and now drive a super far distance to work in a factory. I don’t regret it at all. Sorry to ramble I guess I just had some stuff to get out lol.

People don't make labor unions when they are happy with their pay and working conditions, and the only cons to a labor union are to the business and potentially its customers - none of the cons are for the employees. And if you are earning minimum wage and working dumb hours in unsafe conditions, you shouldn't really care if your employer makes less profit, or the customers end up paying more - the employer should make less profit or charge more for their product/service if they can't make that profit or charge the prices they do while not paying their employees properly, or making them work in bad conditions.

I always love my monthly anti-union training, because it’s like an extra break. I get, like, an hour of sitting in the back with the volume on the computer muted. I just pop in my headphones and watch my favorite pro-union KZfaq channels as I pretend to watch my workplace’s anti-union videos.

I showed one of my friends this video just now, and before I moved a few years ago, one of our favorite things to do together was watching old training videos on youtube and just make fun of them and how fucking weird they were, This video made me and her reminiscence about inside jokes that bring us to tears from those videos that no one else will ever possibly understand, so thanks for that lol. This is way more nostalgic for me than it probably should be, but I'm okay with that.

For some reason, KZfaq is asking me to verify my age on this video, with an actual bank card or ID. I will never willingly submit to this, so I thought, "Hey, why not tell the two boys about this, and maybe they could try to figure out why I, as a member of the EU, are told I have to legally verify my age by KZfaq just to watch one of your videos. I could see the North Korean video just fine, though. Even the dead children. So it's not really a "working" system for protecting children, as much as it is an "annoying" cunt of a mistake.

As a union worker at UPS the most inconvenient rule I have to deal with are that I need to face ladders while going down them and maintain 3 points of contact, even on the 2 step "ladders" that go up to the walkway before the trailers. Which I get, it's a safety thing, I just kinda wish for something that small they'd just make steps so it doesn't qualify as a ladder and we can get through quicker. Other than that the only thing that kinda sucks sometimes is that I'm not allowed to work through my break. So yeah, unions are soooooo baaaaaad for workers... Toooooootally not just Walmart trying to convince workers they don't need a union to protect them from Walmart exploiting them.

The videos main purpose was a non thinly veiled threat to you being fired. It was even in their tag line on your "career". It came up many times. The two fears the staff have are "dues" and "fired". Dues being absolutely worth it is easily discredited. So they accentuate the fact that the store will break the law to fire unionising workers and shut down stores "no longer profitable because of unions" (I.e. to send a message).
@Magitek852 жыл бұрын
In Michigan we voted on a "Right to Work" law which let people elect to pay union dues or not but they'd have to be protected by the union either way. It was some roundabout union busting bullshit and we voted it down. 3 months later our Republican governor put in place right to work by an executive order or some shit. I was at the protests afterwards. 20k people surrounding the state capital. Teamsters came up from Ohio. Ultimately made no difference.

Not even a few months ago I was forced to do death by power point at my shitty ghetto convenience store job. “Unions r bad n stuff!” I barely absorbed any of the information and used common sense. It’s insane how these companies describe themselves as friendly but in all reality they don’t offer even reasonable accommodation or opportunity for raises. To them a raise is 25-50 cents every year or whatever. While my store has no ‘cult leader’ the individuals are often very full of themselves making a sort of localized cult. It’s a weird feeling to describe and they often have unrealistic expectations for new workers. As if by day 5 I should know the store better than I know every nook and cranny of my body. Truly machine like.
