With this mindset, Jim makes sense of the disappointment of not reaching his goal. Dive into the mind of ultra runner Jim Walmsley as he pursues greatness in the journey of ultra running. If we do not go on the journey what have we really learned, how much have we grown, and is the result as sweet without some setbacks along the way?
Over the last 15 years, UTMB has been the hallmark race where the best athletes from around the world show up to test themselves against not only each other but the demands of the course. Jim Walmsley has uprooted his life in the United States to move himself and his wife to France in pursuit of being the first American male to win this legendary race.

Great effort this year Jim! You may not have hit the ultimate goal, but I see lots of growth especially in the mindset. I remember you getting lost at Western States your first attempt, and feeling completely dejected you sad in pity and walked to the finish. This year even though you bonked and lost the potential to win, you decided to make the most of the moment and continue giving the best effort you could. To me, that's the true attitude of a champion and one of the many reasons I look up to you. Not sure if you'll see this Jim, but if you do know you're an inspiration.

Good evening. For the case that an American runner wins UTMB, it should be him in my eyes. I'm very sure Jim worked his butt off to come to that far in the ultra running world and in live so to speak. He earned his right to win this big race. I'm so happy when people's hard work they have invested pays off 😃 Congratulations Jim and thank you so much for the big inspiration that you are for me and so many other people out there, is it running or otherwise 🙏👍 I wish you and your fiance all the best in the world. Jim needs to go on some nutrition quests. Looks like he dropped too much weight trying to be like the Kenyans. He needs to learn how to eat on the lam like Courtney because training digestive function at altitude is as equally important as the cardiovascular component.
