Walrus have given us a free update to the ACS1!

Great update video and great work by Walrus ! As many famous Recording and Live Engineers have explicitly stated numerous times, there is noting good or useful or of any value in the Electric Guitar below 100hz ... you can listen to any isolated track of any reputable well known recording and it is astonishing how little low freq is in their mixed signal along with very hefty cuts to the over 6kz range. In a mixing scenario I agree about the low end. I do some mixing myself, and I will high pass guitar tracks around 100 hz (which still allows stuff around 50hz too). However from the guitarists perspective, it’s nice to have that low end that real amps do make. The high frequencies as actually very necessary for the guitar to sit in the mix properly depending on the style of music. And as someone who mixes, I prefer to have a fuller range sound so I can remove what I don’t like, rather than having a sound that has frequency response holes or large dips. Cheers!

I was looking forward to hearing your feedback on the v2 firmware. Great job. I have to agree, the Dream still sounds better to me than the ACS-1; especially when paired with a mid-focused OD to fill-in the scoop.

I liked the sound of the acs1, but for some reason running some pedals like the mxr reverb sounded horrible before the pedal. I would have to crank the mix and still would be missing qualities of the reverb if i were to run it after the pedal, but i lose the headphone function

Hmm maybe that’s because it rolls off some treble? My reverb sounded normal before it

reverb always sounds horrible before amps, especially driven. fx loops or after if works with line level is the correct way.

Thanks for a great video...I just ordered one and hope it works out for me. I play Chapman Stick (albeit poorly..maybe play AT is more accurate) so the dual mono config is a big big, defining , deal for me. esp in making a trim little pedalboard, which has its challenges with stick

Im not a huge fan of the volume drops when messing with the EQ's? That feels super weird and unnatural to me. Im almost having trouble balancing high gain and clean tones. Dynamically, i feel it doesnt clean up so well at higher gains

Hm I haven't noticed the volume drop issue. I do find the clean up to be ok, but what I don't like is how dark it sounds when the gain is down. I'm still messing with mine and I'll have to do a follow up video on how to get the most out of it.

@@ZachariahConnor same. I'm struggling to keep my DAW at -10db and have as much "loudness" as I did in the previous update. If my drives are nice and punchy the cleans aren't as good when picking softly. Almost like there's a noise gate on it. Could be the reduced compression or something else. Going to try the "enhanced" tonefactor IR in mic position 1 to see if that helps

Shouldn't you be testing it with the eq knobs maxed out if you're testing white noise it passes through?

I could do that, but I did the white noise test to compare with the old firmware because I can create a frequency response graph with my DAW to visualize what the amp models are doing with the eq set to noon. I don’t use this pedal with the eq maxed so I didn’t do the white noise test that way.

Plus when I compared it to the UA dream in this video, its EQ was also at noon

Anyone else not a fan of the update? The new cabs are too dark, theres an annoying low frequency rumble especially with the Fender model, and with the limiter gone the pedal is too quiet. Downgraded to 1.3, sounds much more musical to my ears.

I'm finding it even more mid forward than before, I'm glad they fixed some stuff, but I don't see myself keeping it. At least you can go back to the old firmware.
