Walt Disney, You're my Hero, and inspired me to follow my dream on being an engineer for your Railroad at Disneyland.

A bit of trivia: If you were at Disneyland in the late '50's or early '60's, you may have been on a train driven by Walt himself. We would often dress in his engineer's outift in the little apartment on Main Street and pull the cap down low to dart over to the train station. The next train to come in, he would tap the engineer on the shoulder and say, "You're on break." He'd run the train for a few times around to unwind.

I never met Walt Disney, in person. I wish I could have. He was a wonderful gentleman. I did work from the start to the finish on "Walt Disney World", near Orlando, Fla. I was a contract electrician, and I was responsible for testing electrical circuits once they had been connected. If I found a problem, I fixed it. I didn't find many problems. When the project was completed, I was there for Disney World's Grand Opening. It was a stupendous affair.

I rode the train at Disneyland back in the early 1970's. We spent two days at Disneyland and as the second day was winding to a close I rode the train for three or four circuits before calling it a night. Being a life long railfan, even at the age of 13, it was a fitting way to end my second visit to Disneyland. I would have loved to have been able to visit the Carolwood Pacific. I have numerous friends who build 1/8 scale live steamers. I may do it myself some day.

Walt Disney once met my mom by accident, when the typerwriter carriage my mom was typing on, came back and hit him, because he was standing too close. Well you can imagine how flustered my mom was, and she was " I 'm sorry Mr Disney, Please Forgive me Mr. Disney, " and so on, finally he stopped my mom and said, " Not Mr. Just Walt ", I tell you, I never met him, but that speaks volumes of just how down to earth he was.

yes and it makes me sick too. I at least grew up when Walt Disney first built his park for everyone but now it simply is not the same. RIP Walt we all miss you so much.

I've ridden on the trains not only at Walt Disney World but also Disneyland. I really love it. Walt Disney is my hero too. Also, he inspired me to follow my dream of being an engineer on my own trains.

@ubdisani If you really want to know more about Walt and his love for railroading, check out the Carolwood Pacific Historical Society. (carolwood (dot) com). It was founded by Michael Broogie, son of the late Roger Broogie, Disney Imagineer and namesake of WDW's engine number 3.

I was a good friend of Disney legend Roger Broggie jr. He used to tend the Lilly Belle for Walt when he was a kid. His dad is the older gentleman in the white coveralls in this video.

I did get to be the Brakeman on Ward Kimball's Nevada back in the 80's for its long awakening at Grizzly Flats. The Chloe was running as well. What a day!

I guess from later October until December 24, 1949 Walt Disney built the Lilly Belle locomotive which was named in honor of his wife Lillian Disney.

@jtkirkfan2002 Thanks for the trivia, I've only been to Walt Disney World but one of the highlights of that trip, was the train ride around the Magic Kingdom, so I just had to make this tribute .

One of the old engines with its set of passenger cars that ran at Disney World are presently being restored. Walt would be so happy to see their rebirth. Railroad track is being layed for them to run on when they have been completed.

The original house gave way to a larger structure. I don't know who owns it now, or even who did the building, but I do remember seeing the original.

How long did this cute little locomotive, the Lilly Belle take Walt Disney to build? My guess is between 1948 and 1949.

Uhh. If Belle was the only engine he made, then my neighbor is the owner of it. His father was friends with Walt and got the train. Now it is in Vegas being restored to be put in my neighbors backyard on a track.

Brady McAtee I worked at The Great Train Store bear Atlanta with the grandson of a Disney animator. He said numerous copies of Parts were made and that his granddad had owned a number of them. Maybe they made enough to put together several engines.
