This video just made me super homesick for Disney. We always save up a couple years and then spend a week at the contemporary resort with a Magic Kingdom View.

Hi Justin, if you have time you should show everyone the observation deck at the contemporary. Its right outside of the ginger bread house. You can get a really great view of the fireworks at night. Also if you wave to the monorail as its coming in, sometimes it will blow their air horns back at you. Really cool!

I FIIIIIIINALLY went to WDW for the first time this year at the grand old age of 33 and I don't think I've ever been more thrilled in my life than when I rode the monorail thru the Contemporary and saw that Mary Blair mural in the flesh. Amazing time!!!

Our next hotel stay. It's fabulous. The contempo cafe I'd very good, and paras ailing on the lake is so much fun.

Christmas time at Walt Disney World is extra special to me and my wife. 41 years ago we spent our honeymoon here and have been back many times since. Christmas at Walt Disney World is one of my many memories that I will cherish forever!!!

I stayed at the Contemporary for the first time in September. Didn't get a schnazzy fruit plate, but I did get a view of the Magic Kingdom! Definitely want to stay there again!

The WDW castle is incredible! And the Contemporary Resort atrium has a great smell, I could never pinpoint what it is and I've never smelled it anywhere else on earth.

Honestly. I wish I could travel all the time like you and go to Disney parks all the time instead of having to work on the ol' Walmart which makes me wonder where I went wrong in life, where I am lucky just to be able to go to Walt Disney World after not being there for 7 years, though from now on, I will try to go to a Disney Park at least once a year

Always wanted to know how great the views were from The Contemporary. They do not disappoint! Awesome! One thing about staying on your side of the hotel - you can lie in bed and watch Epcots fireworks.

I spent my junior and senior year in Florida and graduated high school from there. Disney had a thing called Senior Night, our class boarded charter busses and drove to Orlando and had our Senior banquet at the Contemporary Resort. Some where around 9:30ish we took the Monorail into the Kingdom for a all nighter with nothing by Seniors from up and down the East coast.....what a blast we all had. Left there around 5am via boat back to the Contemporary to board our busses and slept all the way back to Punta Gorda! LOL Update on 11/19: Had to watch it again, brings back so great memories. In fact watching it this time...I realized the gold curtain backdrop behind the gingerbread house look just like the ones that hung on the walls in the banquet hall we used that night. LOL

They were never going to slide the rooms out to replace them. The plan was to try out new construction methods (which was kind of the point of Walt's ideas for the Florida project/EPCOT and the reedy creek improvement district) in the hope that building rooms off site in a factory and then trucking them in would be faster and cheaper than having them built on site. The problem was that once the hotels were built the factory was too far away from anything else to be used for another project (shipping hotel rooms costs more than just going to your local home depot). But they did more than just the contemporary. When Walt Disney World opened they had 3 hotels. The Contemporary, the Polynesian, and the Golf resort (now shades of green). The original rooms for the Polynesian were built in the same factory that the contemporary's rooms were, but instead of putting them into a pre-built frame they just stacked them on top of/next-to each other. I think it's possible the golf resort was built this way too, but I'm not 100% sure. And any additions to the hotels (including the contemporary) where built using standard construction methods.

Thanks for the look back Justin. My parents and I stayed at the Contemporary when I was about 10 (my Mom wanted the Polynesian but I was a whiny little jerk back then and insisted on the hotel the Monorail runs through; I also insisted on crossing the lagoon via Monorail though my Mom wanted ferry). I recall a Polynesian Luau. I'm not sure staying one place and eating at others was done so much then. I'm sure there were only 3 in park accommodations options back then (plus camping, I think), the third escapes me. Other than the Monorail, I don't recall the Contemporary being much more impressive than a Motel 6. Perhaps my 10 year old self was not impressed by glass bathrooms. I can tell you, there was no chocolate Monorail. Before arcades, Mom and I bonded over air hockey, which we had never seen before. Excuse me, I'm going to go cry now.

Awesome video. I stayed there in the 70's in the wing that was removed for BLT. Still need to stay in the main building with the monorail! BTW1 - A little research on the ol' net shows that the rooms were never meant to be changed by sliding them in and out. I guess it's just an urban legend? "After being trucked to the construction sites, the nearly nine-ton rooms were slid into the building frames by crane, like dresser drawers. Despite a widely believed legend, they were never meant to be removable for future refurbishments, though."

Welcome back to Disney World! The Contemporary is my favorite hotel! That chocolate monorail is amazing!!! It's crazy to think the rooms were just meant to slide out! Never noticed the crooked tile, but will look next time! I believe the Gingerbread Castle is new this year. Thanks for sharing!

I have an annual pass, and I always stay at the Movies resort. But THAT’S my dream hotel to stay at.
