Not only a legendary talent, but a genuinely nice man. His wife Louise is a sweetheart as well. Thank you for this!

Great interview. I bought that old 80s run (I lucked out, and my local comic shop had them listed on ebay) just to put those two issues of X-men Legends in context. Really enjoyed both the art and story. Wonderful stuff! :)

The best thor run of all. Every few years, I re-read simonsons thor run with the trade paperbacks, that's how good it is. I last re-ead the whole run during the first lockdown in 2020. Love the North mythology elements in this thor run

I love its blend of heavy drama and humorous whimsy. It's such a great balance that he pulls off

I've met Walt before and he was one of the most friendly people to talk to. He did an Apocalypse drawing for me (1988 Albany) and later did a 10 question questionnaire for me and a "newsletter" I did monthly.

My favorite single panel is in Thor issue 342, Thor with his finger in his mouth. I tried Thor issue 300 and did not continue. I couldn't relate. I tried 340 and was interested, but not hooked. 342 about the old warrior who refused to die because he wanted to go to Valhalla, Thor is looking for him and comes across the pot of food. He sticks his finger in to see if it is warm. Others would have him be on guard or say I know you are here. Walt's Thor tastes it and thinks, "not bad." Walt hooked me. I could relate to a god. Also a sign Don Blake's humanity was now part of Thor since Don Blake was no more... at the time.

Hi! Great job! I’ve been reading comics for years and years, been reading Walter’s stories since Manhunter in ‘73! Met him &Louise on several occasions since the 80’s! I love them both for their amazing positive attitude towards life and the creative process of comics! Always learning and appreciate how its all done! Thanks for your damn good interview!

I'm reading this run now. I can only say at this early stage how influential this run was. Looking forward to completing the run!

Great episode. Walt is a legend in many ways ( not because he's gone, thank goodness ). His Ragnarok is incredible, and clearly demonstrates, among other things, how shallow and incompetent current Marvel and DC leadership is. If they weren't, in my opinion, they would have Walt and many other master Illustrated story-tellers putting modern day classics on the shelves instead of the modern day messes they’re publishing. Marvel's X-Men Legends is the best X book they've published in years for my money ( and they don't get much of it anymore ). It's consistently my local comic book shop's best selling X book according to the lady that owns and runs the shop. Walt and the rest of the great classic creators have shown in this series alone they're not only still as good, but better than they ever were. Give them new ongoing freedom to turn their creativity loose and Marvel and DC could end up with their own great equals of Ragnarok level illustrated story-telling.

I thought it was hilarious that he made the comment that his run on FF was long by today's standards. So true.

When Walt talks about sincerity when approaching the story, no matter how silly it may appear, is exactly why I never got on board with the MCU (and especially its Thor movies post-Branangh). It's like they're so on-the-joke about their characters and stories, they become the joke themselves. Your story can be as silly as silly can get yet still function and be dramatic. Sure, some cynical viewers will probably laugh at you trying to make serious stuff out of stuff that people don't think is serious, but it's better than to make everything a self-aware circus show where everyone knows they're in a comic-book or a movie. Unless the material was designed to be self-aware, don't try to fix what isn't broken.
