This beautiful Waltham Pocket Watch made in 1893 turned out to have two issues with its pallet fork. The escapement needed this repair to be made and in doing so I introduce the concept of overbanking tendency. The repair includes replacing a missing pallet fork jewel for a new jewel.

Hello master watchmaker Please teach how to replace a broken pallet fork pivot. especially very thin or short pivots such as Omega 565 or Omega 1010 or shorter, thinner and more delicate. Thank you for all the very professional and excellent videos🎉

My hands are now far too shaky to attempt anything as small as a watch, but I do repair Synchronome electromechanical clocks, these have a gathering pawl on a wire arm and these are always missing, usually a bent paperclip is found doing duty. So you have to forge down a spring steel wire to a flat at the end and bend the flattened end into a little circle and shellac a small brocot jewel into the loop. I wish I had seen your video first, done three of them now. So far they have all held up.

These movements (with and without dial) from old pocket watches (Waltham included) can be had for very cheap prices. i had an idea to restore and hang or put in a holder to make in to desktop clocks. Would be a pretty cool idea I think!

Richard, you got hold of a beauty there. The detail work is truly amazing. And it was factory built, no less! Very interesting and enjoyable presentation. This is going to be a fascinating project to follow! Thanks very much.

I was looking through your library of videos and I didn't see a video of making this old movement into a wristwatch, did you ever do that?

Would be helpful to instruct how to properly position the stone. I notice on watches the pallet notch is long and stones do not always fit entirely down into the notch. So there must be some reference as to how deep and how far the stone face get located. So that the escape wheel lock and unlocks properly.

I would suggest you buy any of the watchmaking method books from Fried, Bulova, Chicago school of watchmaking, etc. They will outline how to set up the depth of the stones. You can ( sometimes ) also see where the last stone was "sitting" if there's some shellac still present on the arms of the pallet fork. Hope this helps

you have too see how much it penetrates in th teeth of escapment wheel there is a small value, cant e too muchh or to small, we also have a bergeon tool to help applying that, its a big laught people put videos put dont shoe how the "fix" the watch...like here. you can also see if escapment fitting is too weak or strong in the timemachine.

Great video, I’ve been collecting Waltham pocket watches for several years. Did you ever make a case for this one?

Hi Giovan ... Not yet! It is still on the TODO list .. I have invested in the technology to do it and will be doing some videos on antique movements in bespoke cases soon. Richard

Richard Perrett Watchmaker thanks Richard I look forward to it. I have several small Waltham movements I purchased in the US last year that appear to be working fine that I’d like to re-case. They had been separated from their gold cases and I could not resist them.

I fixed it. It is a very simple watch for me ... if you want to see me fix tricky stuff in great detail then check out my three Rolex 2135 videos or my two Omega Speedmaster Videos .... they are 'a little bit more challenging' and I cover the whole process in detail. Richard

Hi Richard. Kinda hoping you could help me. I have an 1891 Silver English Pocket Watch that is mostly held together with tiny brass pins, not screws. The assay office date stamp is for 1891, made / assembled by Ridley Hayes Erdington Birmingham after he partnered up with a Thomas Hayes, it was made in Chester. The pallet fork balance stem is broken one end, ive exhausted all avenue`s of research trying to find another movement for parts or even any info on it, can you help me track down a replacement pallet fork, i don`t have tools to replace the balance stem so a complete fork would be needed. It measure 10.05 length / 3.65 high obviously that`s measuring the stem as it is now with the tip broke off, would imagine it would have been about 3.9 - 4.0mm unbroken. Cheers. I do have photos of the parts and movement i could email you. Glen
