Installing a Shooter Kit reduces operational stress in the G43 cycling system. The original battlefield version was meant to overcome internal friction caused by dirt, frozen moisture and low maintenance. In today's world where G43 are kept clean and well lubed by their owners, the excessive force of the reloading system slams the bolt carrier hard into the back of the receiver, resulting in cracked bolt housings and sometimes in bent receivers. If your G43 flings the brass more than 10 feet, chances are your gas system needs to be restricted. This is where the Shooter Kit comes in.

Great tutorial video. Though I would make 1 suggestion for any K43 owners out there with the shooters kit. Similar to a shooter kit for the M1 Garand, start with the SMALLEST sized orafice and fire. If the weapon does not completely cycle, move up to the next biggest size. You only need a big enough gas hole to fully cycle the weapon. No need to mess with tape as once you're able to get the weapon to cycle completely, the bolt shouldn't have enough force to come all the way back anyway. Just my 2 cents

I have aG43 built in 1944. probably hasn't been fired in 70 years . Cleaned the bore and lubed it before we went. Fired it once and the bolt came back and locked back. I can rock the bolt back and forth. But only slightly.I can't rotate the safety lever to safe also can not push the button in to release the bolt. I haven't tried to force anything. Any suggestions would be helpful

just have a question about the tape for finding the right port screw size. why not find the smallest one that cycles starting from the bottom then going up in port size till you find the one that cycles. or is the tape a better method for a reason i dont yet understand?
@AxisGuns
@AxisGuns 7 жыл бұрын
You can certainly start with the smallest orifice and work your way up, that's how we all do it. At one point, you will go from an orifice diameter too small to reliably cycle to the next larger one that will cycle. However, this next larger orifice could be too large, allowing the bolt to slam into the back into the receiver. The tape will tell you. The location of the tape is the minimum distance the bolt has to travel to cycle reliably (plus a little extra). Anything shorter and it won't cycle. If the bolt carrier rips through the tape, it means the bolt has too much energy (orifice too big) and will hit the back of the receiver. If you don't have an intermediate size orifice on hand, you can always take the smaller size and carefully open it up in 0.005" diameter increments with suitable drill bits.

Please Google the 3 words Apfeltor manufacturing cylinders and it will provide a link to his page. Also check eBay for seller allibaba34 (another manufacturer). I'm not affiliated with any of these guys but I'm using their systems and they both function as intended.

AxisGuns It was stated in the video that the G43 has an overpressure gas system to improve reliability under extreme conditions. Would say an sks have a similar system set up? I am asking because my sks has similar marks from the bolt and carrier.

why do you have to replace the springs??

Springs get weak when old or used much. Spring pressure and gas pressure are important variables for proper operation of the cycling system.

Couldn't someone that reloads just use a powder charge a bit lower than the original cartridge?
@AxisGuns
@AxisGuns 3 жыл бұрын
You need a certain minimum charge for the cartridge neck to seal and prevent case blow-by. Loading handbooks indicate the lowest safe charge, too low of a charge is dangerous.
@JimJenkins1967
@JimJenkins1967 3 жыл бұрын
@@AxisGuns I wasn't suggesting a charge below a book value. The issue is beating these guns up with a cartridge equivalent to the original. If you back the charge off a little, without going below a minimum, it seems to me you could arrive at a charge that still cycles the gun, but doesn't batter the receiver.

which size hole do you use in the piston?

0.050" seems to work well. It also depends on the strength of the recoil springs and whether or not the gas cylinder has bleed holes.

This is so WRONG and so unnecessary. (1) In any dirty gas system, you never want to have a big tube constricted down suddenly by a orifice plug. This is an invitation for gunk to build up ahead of the orifice plug. (2) This reduction in gas flow is unnecessary. All you are trying to do is reduce the driving impulse of the operating rod. You can easily achieve this by keeping the historical piston and orifice. The gas cylinder has vent holes which bleeds off the gas pressure once the cylinder has moved a certain distance. Simply making an aftermarket cylinder with BIGGER HOLES and/or HOLES further back will cause the gas pressure to be vented sooner in the cycle and more quickly. If the holes are right near the piston face I guarantee you will have practically no cycling force for imparted on the bolt. You can also have a series of holes and a rotating collar to make an adjustable gas system. This is all without touching the historical piston and it can all be done with ZERO tools!
@AxisGuns
@AxisGuns 20 күн бұрын
That's a genius idea, quite surprising that it took 80 years for somebody to figure this simple solution out. Where can I get such modified cylinders, how many holes, what diameter and where are the bleed holes exactly located? What is your personal experience with your contraption? Nevertheless, I'm grateful that in the meantime we had access to inferior gas restrictors that granted us hours of shooting fun while preventing our cherished gems from guaranteed self destruction.
