Every moment of your video recalls every moment I had with 45 years of samoyeds. They look alike. They act alike (for the most part). Thank you!!!!! for posting.

We love our 2 year old male samoyed, he's very smart, kind and friendly to everyone..except for 60% of other unneutered male dogs, or confident/dominant neutered male dogs. This also started when he was 1 year old, and I'm relieved that it's not just our samoyed. Combine this with terrible recall when other dogs are around and you have a dog that can get into fights. This has happened a few times and since then we cannot unleash him without the fear of him picking a fight. It's sad to see your dog go from a playful puppy that likes every dog to a competitive samoyed and have people commenting 'there is something wrong with your dog'. I now know those people don't know that dominant behavior is normal dog behavior (at least for samoyeds it is). So I learned reading the signs (before the growling starts), and not accepting it at all. Basically, if he starts eyeing another dog like that he will have to deal with me and I will either say 'No, leave it'/distract with food or if he's stubborn: turn him around (with force) so he won't be able to keep eye contact with the other dog. If necessary I will intervene and grab him (not pull the leash but grab him by the front-side of his harness and firmly turning him away). This has helped in that it's gotten much easier. I can distract him with food where I couldn't before, and he can walk past some of those dogs and ignore them (not all of course). Being soft and positive all the time unfortunately doesn't work with all dogs. Of course I will still reward him (with praise or food) everytime he behaved (relatively) well during an encounter.

Thanks for showing us the difficulties of life with Felix! I'm sure most Samoyed owners will sympathise but we forgive them everything for being so loving and downright gorgeous! 💜💛💚

My home has a samoyed that likes to pull and chase small animals as well. We use a front lead harness to make her pulling less effective. When she was young, she had a habit of pulling in lunges, which made me nervous about walking her with a collar.

Although we have a female samoyed (14 month old) we can relate to most of your points. Especially the hunting part. We do a lot of training, and when there are no wild animals around it works like a charm, but whenever there are mice, rabbits, squirrels, etc. all the training goes out the window. So we can‘t let her off the leash as well. Yes, some things about owning a samoyed can be annoying from time to time but as you mentioned that's part of a samoyeds character. We find that these little imperfections make our samoyed perfect for us. Greetings from Northern Germany.

We have two males, one neutered ( before we got him) and one intact. I've come to the conclusion that Prey drive to a Samoyed is like breathing, they can't help it and you can't stop it. Most of your points, Been there, did that, still doing it. We get problems with negative behavior from other dogs ALL the time, which impacts the behavior of ours. We've had three, and every one has experienced it. Good video, good to see the downs as well as the ups of Sammy ownership.

I'm so glad I had a female malmute. I found her in California and I didn't even know she was white. She was lost and soaking wet & dirt. She rocked as a dog.I would love brushing her. Like a tall paper bag full. I miss her Sooooo 😢 much. So much fun to play with. But I know what you mean your dog is beautiful...I used to work at Pets in the Pet salon. Does your dog get spooked in the pet salon when they blow him out?

🤣So relatable! My samoyed is a sweet cotton candy, but of course he has some of that issues: chasing birds, he's a leash puller, he's extremely friendly and wants to say hi to everyone dogs and persons. And he dislikes to be brushed. ❤But I love him no matter what

Samoyeds were sled dogs, like huskies. So with a harness on them their instinct is to pull. Leash attached to collar or slip leash will give you more control when walking and training
@craddocraddoc
@craddocraddoc 8 ай бұрын
A harness will not trigger pulling. Our samoyed does not pull at all with a harness. There is no gen or intergenerational knowledge bred into samoyeds that they start pulling when wearing a harness. That is not how a sledge dog works. In the end, it is just simple training. If you let a samoyed pull, he will continue to do so. The main problem here is a roll leash that gives you no control and the mindset, that "we start loving his quirks". You can improve pulling when you attach the leash at the collar or - even better - the sternum ring of the harness, but in the end it is the same old training you do with every other dog, too...

Thanks for the video!! I’m so happy my Samoyed has none of these issues. He is easy going and accept all the grooming parts. After a lot of training he stopped pulling on the leash, except if he sees another dog. No matter what we tried, he is just too excited. We accepted this and are happy the rest is okay. I brush him every day or two (maar hebben jullie toevallig een goede ervaren groomer waar ik eens in de zoveel tijd naar toe kan gaan voor een proffesionele beurt?)

Except for the Paw touching my samoyed is exactly the same. Just her patience when brushing is more like 2 minutes instead of 15

My Samoyed is completely opposite of that 😅. He eats like a pig and gets along with every dog easily. But he has the prey drive too!

Leash pulling and stubborness is quite typical for samoyeds. A roll leash is the worst possible thing to have for such a dog. A shorter, more sturdy leash would be way better. We have had the best results with a leash that we could tie around us like a shoulder back. This gives much more control and the dog has to stop when we stop and can't pull us with him. This is a pure power struggle with this breed, not some kind of natural character. He does this because you let it happen. Our dog trainer was quite - harsh - when we went there, but the thruth is, samoyeds look like teddy bears, so we tend to be waaaaay too soft and forgiving with them...

my 15th month male dog keeps on grumbling and growling at EVER OTHER MALE DOG. I cannot take him to ANY OTHER male dog that is not neautured. He growls and goes for them, I feel for you I am going through the same thing. ONLY with dogs that are not neautered.

Just get him neutered. Yes, the fur will become worse for a while, because of anestesia, but then it will be even better. And no aggression issues at all.

Our dog is neutered and has even worse problems with other dogs - he doesn't even car if they are male or female, every dog is an enemy. The idea that neuterin a dog solves any kind of aggression problem is quite outdate tbh...

Not neutering is the cause of most of the problems. Your breeder's advice not to neuter is really bad.
