I wonder who SB is? The singular hallmark of whether or not someone understands Taijiquan is whether his opponent "flies" of his own power or not - basically. If the "master" (so called) has to _push_ his opponent, he is not doing Taijiquan - it's really that simple. You know the three seminar quotes: "To use force, borrow force. Manipulate 1000 pounds with four ounces. Lure the opponent into emptiness." All of these address the concept. Wang Peisheng was the last of his kind. Only two of his disciples can be said to follow his way and are alive and teaching today.

FYI his Gong Fu brother Zhao Zeren comes to Maryland (announcement on site) First weekend in May, Pittsburgh the next weekend and Princeton NJ the weekend after that. No one is going to say “as good as Master Wang,” but all are welcome to try their skills. Just as a side note: one of the hallmarks of those who have been beaten by Taijiquan is their incredulity afterwards, e.g.., “I don’t know how he beat me.?” I can only ask that you come to one of these seminars and see for yourself. FYI: Siye Zhao is a joy filled wonderful person to be around - and - absolutely uncompromising in his adherence to Taiji skill and discipline. In the past 10 years (he’s around 70 now) he had received challenges from (among others) the number one Sanda fighter in China and two other young men their age - decisively unbalanced and downed. Many top fighters at the peak of their physical conditioning, wherein there were at least many witnesses (in one case more than 100 police at a banquet in Wuhan). And, as both disciple and observer it is _I_ who assert personally - when these two guys are gone - so goes any of what we describe as “original Taijiquan,” (that art which is descended in fully authentic form from Yang Luchan. @@baiyuantongbei Hi, thanks for the info. I hope to make it to one of those and perhaps to meet these masters in person in the future. I studied under Master Sing Ong who was one of the top disciples of Master Huang Sheng Shyan. Huang, as you may know, studied under Manching but also came from a wrestling and White Crane background. In an indoor push-hands session Huang beat his teacher and, as far as I know, at least in this lineage, Huang was the acknowledged successor. I realize there are other lineages and your one is fascinating to me. Hope to meet you one day. Thanks :)

@@kingofaikido I don't know about too many other actual systems. For Taijiquan, there is only a single known lineage other than that which Chen Fake brought to Beijing during Wang Peisheng's life (they were contemporaries and Wang referred to Fake as "uncle" - that said, he bested Fake nonetheless). Fake never said he taught "Taijiquan" and those who were practitioners of Taijiquan in Beijing simply lumped him in because he was a martial arts guy with a semi-internal method from Chen Village. Of course the notion that Taijiquan was invented in Chen Village is fiction. As per "who beats whom" - the concept of "beats" is complicated in Taijiquan because Taijiquan is an internal system. If you simply beat someone up, it doesn't mean you know anything at all internal. It will only mean that you used a lot more energy than would have been optimal if you'd known and internal system to accomplish the same ends.

You would like to try yourself, this is not overact. Well most of the Taichi are fake performance, but this one and Master Wang are not.

As one from this lineage, allow me to say: Wang Peisheng spent 14 years in jail as a political prisoner (for really terrible reasons and not at all because he asked for it or deserved it). His students prior to his entering jail feared him intensely because of his capacity to put them on the ground easily. His students included already-established masters in Beijing at that time. When he got out of jail time served, he was in his sixties and from that time re-established his reputation. One such event being his famous beating of Shorin Ryu style head Yamasaki (which their group does not deny - to their credit - but downplays as a "friendly interaction" which at least from our side we know was not. Their group had difficulty mustering any respect for Wang Peisheng until their teacher ended up on the ground seven times. Important to realize, we're talking about 60+ year old man beating a man half his age where there was in effect no contest at all). This, of course is merely one highlight in Wang Peisheng's life wherein he met all challenges with the same words: "Do whatever you want." He is not known to have lost, ever. Meanwhile, for public demonstrations: _some_ amount of cooperative performance is considered just fine wherein the teacher is illustrating particular concepts. It is only when the teacher's entire reputation rests on _false_ cooperation by students just for show (by far the more common thing to see), is there an issue. This was _never_ the case in Wang Peisheng's case. But if you doubt my word, I have a suggestion: see www.ycgf.com - look for Zhao Zeren seminar (coming in May) and attend. You'll change your tune quickly I'm sure.
