All game modes from Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 2 return, with the addition of a new mode: Ghost (Versus) Battle.
With Story Mode, The characters from the original comic appear as your rivals. Your mission in this game is to race against these characters and defeat them. "Tuning" is one of the special features of this game. "Tuning" is available only in Story Mode. There are 80 stages in Story Mode.
In Outrun Mode, Players have to defeat rivals in succession. You win if you defeat 10 rivals in succession. And if you finish within the set time, it means you have cleared in Gold Time.
There are 7 courses in total. Each course has rivals who range from Skill Level 1 to Level 10.The aim of 10 Outrun Mode is to clear every course and every level in Gold Time.
Ghost Battle Mode,the newest addition to the game, Ghost Battle Mode allows players to race against pre-"recorded" ghosts of other players' cars in order to earn dress-up points towards upgrading their car with aero kits, decals, etc.
There are four ways to play Ghost Battle Mode:
Select From Friends' List- Friends are added when you race against them. You can then choose to race their ghost.
Select From Revenge List- When a player defeats your ghost, you can choose to race the ghost they beat you with.
Select By Level- Allows you to select by difficulty of the ghost. There are 10 levels.
Select By Card Name- Allows you to input a card name and search for that player.
In Versus mode, players race against one another on the different courses in the game. The new course branching system allows for a different race experience every time.
In Time Attack Mode, players race against the clock to try and get the best time on a specific course.
In Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 3, players can get a "Level" corresponding to their progress and a "Title" corresponding to their gaming style.Your level rises if you satisfy certain conditions. It indicates your progress though all game modes.
You can get a title if you satisfy certain conditions. There are more than 5,000 titles in total, each corresponding to game modes and gaming style.
You can also select "Overwrite" or "Don't Overwrite" when you get a title. This means you can keep your favorite title for as long as you want.
Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 3 includes all the features from Maximum Tune 1 and 2, plus some new features:

If you are playing Story mode, Ghost Versus Battle Mode, 10 Outrun Mode or Time Attack and set the VS mode to "Accept VS challengers", players can challenge you from other game machines.
In this game, you can connect up to 3 game machines, so a total of four 4 players, including you, can race at the same time. If you win, you get an Outrun Star.
And you can choose the course you want to race on, thanks to the free branching system.
