In this video I talk about the most common issues you face when you switch to Steam deck windows. The most pressing issue we have is the Steam deck windows controller support. So here I give you my honest opinion on which one to choose from SWICD, Glossi, Handheld companion Steam deck or steak deck tools. I also talk about some general Steam Deck Windows Issues that you my have to deal with when switching.

Good to see a fair comparison for HC vs SDTools because both are very well made. I had gone with SDTools primarily because unlike HC, i was able to just set my controller to xinput mode universally without having to toggle it on or off when playing games through steam. It made for a very consistent experience

Yea I agree with this one. But with HC you can set a button shortcut to turn off and on the service. But yea in that aspect SD tools is better

@@TA_Tech yeah toggling isn't a big deal at all and I like that HC allows custom shortcuts while SDT doesn't. I would've anyway stuck with HC but it didn;t work for me. Sometimes the underlying tools like ViGEm Bus, HidHide etc can be problematic. Do you also get multiple controllers showing up when you wake your device from sleep/hibernate? I believe this is also a common issue with both HC/SDT and usually requires a reboot.

I didn't really face that issue so far. I usually turn of the service when I'm done gaming probably that is why

I run windows. It works perfect. Its simple. Linux users throw a fit eveytime i bring it up. I literly have not found 1 thing a linux user can do that i cannot. I can list several things i can do, that they can only do after extensive set up. Windows is better. Hands down. And if u use tiny 11 like i did it only takes up like 16G

I like Linux. I get it. But because you can't play games outside of steam, I have to stick with Windows. I want Tiny11 to become better and more popular. The day Linux can play games like Fortnite, Fall Guys, Rocket League, etc ... I'll drop Windows so quick XD!!!

So for controller support, I just use steam. You can add the main exe of say Epic Games, EA, Ubisoft clients to steam as a non steam game to hook steam input. Idk if it works for game pass. And I use steam deck tools for the rivatuner overlay presets to track battery, wattage, and fps in game.

Steam deck is the most user friendly for me. If you know that you can just hold the 3 dots and all settings pop up and even save in every game.

CORRECTION: Steam Deck Tools DOES have an overlay that allows you to change settings on the fly while you are in game. You just hold down the options button (Button with 3 dots) and use the D-pad to change the settings. Just disable the anticheat warnings cuz the settings won't change without that. The user experience is arguable better with Steam Deck tools. I originally had Handheld companion and had to reinstall several times because it wouldn't switch from controller to "desktop" mode or vice versa. I just installed steam deck tools, set it to Xbox 360, ignore steam and haven't had an issue. Steam Deck tools also automatically creates a profile for the specific game you are playing if you change any settings. With tools you can do everything from the controller. With HC you need to change the settings with the touch screen on e you launch the overlay. I think tools is an overall better product, with better user experience. But that's just my opinion.

after u ocupy 70% of storage or after 1 week windows starts too not responding and slow down and big issue for me is with fan control because is so loud and continuous and on Steam OS is updated

Thanks for the info, though when my Steam Deck arrives, I'm still very excitedly waiting on my Steam Deck to arrive, I'm gonna stick to just running SteamOS for a bit, once my 1TB m.2 arrives I will set up dual boot. But Jaysus, the outro almost gave me a heart attack, I had to crank the volume to be able to hear you and I happened to be watching this on my home cinema with big speakers. Audio was too dynamic. just as a heads up, for the music to be the same volume as your voice I had to switch my volume from 40% to 8% at the outro.

Unless I'm missing something... would also be awesome if one can play PC Games on a big-screen TV like when using Retro Games on Emu Deck.

My setup is steam deck tools then deactivate everything about steam deck tools and only use the steam input , And then i install handled companion and use everything that handled companion offer except for the input (i already got steam input from my steam deck tools) And presto done~

Quick question can playing and chargeing brick your steam deck ? On windows

Nope... Have been doing this for a month with no issues. The only thing that would brick your steam deck is if you force shutdown or battery died during firmware update. Everything else would just be a corrupt os. But if you have a black screen, just long press the power button for 10 seconds to turn off and press once to turn back on.

Hi! I have a trouble on windows. In games I have a terrible screen tearing. Vsync is a good solution, but in game Rust vsync reduce my performance : 50+ fps turns into 30-40 fps. Also framerate become really crazy, too many lag spikes. Without vsync performance is perfect. Is there a solution for screen tearing without turning vsync on?

@@TA_Tech checked that thread. Unfortunately, on deck freesync is unavailable, I can't turn it on. Default vsync from amd control panel give the same results, like in-game sync. Also tried to change hz to stable fps I got in the game, tried scanline sync in RTSS and didn't help unfortunately :(
