Very good information, was looking to only grow one type of crop hydroponically, but it might be more strategic to look into growing a variety of crops

Thanks for watching. What you grow is market specific first, than what cultivars can grow in the same working solution. When you grow multiple varieties of plants like we do, there is always one or two veritys that does not do well. We have to tweak what we grow based on working solution and market demand.

hi! Do you change out the water/nut. sol. in the reservoir? If yes, how do you do it with a reservoir as big as yours? Thanks!
@AmericanHydroponics4 жыл бұрын
Yes. We dump our tank every 6 weeks. Like all of our systems, we have a drain bypass that we open up to drain the reservoir. We can also do 20% flushes every couple weeks but eventually we have to dump and refresh to keep the nutrients balanced.

@@AmericanHydroponics thanks for your reply! but wouldnt draining the reservoir dry out the roots? or it doesnt take that much time to do it?

@@kristofferyoung088 When changing the water, during the day when sunlight is hitting the plant canopy, you have about two plus hours before the plants will wilt to conserve water. During the early morning or after the sun sets, time increases to about 6 hours or longer. The process is fairly quick. The same pump that feeds the system operates at full capacity to drain the tank. Once the tank is empty, tank is filled with fresh water and nutrients are dosed by hand (the controller automates the process but would take a long time). After nutrients are added than pH is adjusted as necessary. After tank is freshly charged, pump is turned on and plants resume growing without skipping a beat. The only process that can take longer is if the source water is really cold, we will let the tank sit in idle while it warms up a bit. Don't want the plants to get cold feet.

@@AmericanHydroponics that is so cool! Didnt know plants can hold that long after sunset/early morning. Thank you for sharing that info! will try to work on mine as well.

Will I be able to purchase the bundle and have it shipped to the Eastern Caribbean? Also, would we need greenhouses since we have lots of sun and rain in my country?
@AmericanHydroponics4 жыл бұрын
Yes. We have done lots of international systems, especially in the tropics. A greenhouse is required to keep rain off the system and to keep bugs from establishing residency. Since our NFT system are recirculating, rain water will flood the reservoir. Greenhouses are usually very tall with ridge vents, open side and end walls to allow natural air movement. All openings are covered with insect screen.
