Works No. 25438 of 1943 at Hyde Park Works, Springburn, North Glasgow
After War Department service, the locomotive ran in Greece for 27 year, being repatriated to the UK in 1984. Initially preserved at the Mid Hants Railway, were it gained the BR number 90775, before moving to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway in 1992. In 2002 the loco moved to the GCR, before moving to the North Norfolk Railway in 2003, being purchased for use on the railway in 2006.
Since arriving on the North Norfolk Railway the locomotive has carried the names The Royal Norfolk Regiment and The Earl Haig.

The noise, the smell, the sight. Such an iconic form of transportation, I'm glad I'm old enough to remember this. Thankfully heritage railways keep these old girls going.

Nice locomotive, and like the German counterpart they did serve a lot longer in Greece (and Turkey?) than where they were designed for. Netherlands had many WD Austerities on the roster after the war, bought from the WD. Both the 2-8-0 (4300 series) and 2-10-0 (5000 series) were used, the 2-8-0 being the more numerous type with 237 examples against 103 of the 2-10-0 type. However they had a relatively short life on the NS, as they were mainly used as a stopgap measure until all tracks, electric overhead lines and damaged locomotives were repaired, and new EMU sets came in use. By the end of 1952 all had gone. Only one of the 2-10-0 type has been preserved and is in non operational condition in the railway museum at Utrecht, this loco was named Longmoor after the military railway. Steam ceased operation all together in 1957 in the Netherlands, replaced by mainly EMU sets and electric locomotives.

A lovely loco, though a pitty it wasn't kept in Hellenic railways form for something a bit more interesting than just another br livery loco. But beggars can't be choosers.

From where did the number 90775 come from? The last series went from 90750-90774. Source: Ian Allen Observers book of railway locomotives(1955).

It was given the number after the last that BR used

This locomotive wasn't actually owned by British Rail. It was repatriated from the Netherlands in the 1980s, and when it was repainted into BR livery it took the no. 90775, as the last BR owned one was no. 90774

@@christopherpurakal8741 It's no more powerful than the 2=8=0 variant, just designed to have a lighter axle load for secondary and poorly maintained track. Also why the tender axles are compensated light they are
