Long Beach, CA is where War is from. I'm on a quest to make them more popular. I wish they could get in the Hall of Fame.

War ia a fabulous band . They fuzed jazz, funk, rock n reggae to perfection. They originated in Long Beach. Eric Burdan joined with them. Jimi Hendrix would go to a club in Hyde Park to see them and get on stage with them. His last known performance was the night he died with them. A great rabbit hole to go down. War is so funky and have a really distinctive sound. Low Rider is the one that is reallys associated with them and incredibly famous, used constantly even now in movies. It's nice to hear some of their songs that are new to me, thanks!

You hit on something when you said back in the day you could sound like yourself and nobody else. The music business was more freeform back then. The old record company executives might not have understood the music but if something could sell they stood back and let it happen. It was a completely different game , no internet , no computers , no bedroom studios, no auto tune and real instruments. And you were supposed to have your own sound.

The "Very Best of War" may be the only album you need. Rock on.

I thought I'd drop off another band to give a listen, if interested. "The Traveling Wilburys Wilbury Twist" This band is really considered a supergroup. The Traveling Wilburys were a British-American rock band consisting of Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, and Roy Orbison the band was formed in 1988. However, the band came about due to an idea discussed by George Harrison and Jeff Lynne during the sessions for Harrison's 1987 album "Cloud Nine" and then the band formed in 1988, The Traveling Wilburys Band, that is. lol I think you'll enjoy the eclectic sound these artists bring when coming together...this is beautiful stuff, bro (ear candy🍬)

I grew up in the Compton long beach California area members BB Dickerson bass player vocals RIP, harbor City California, Harold Brown long Beach California, Howard Scott lead guitar vocals , Lonnie Jordan keyboards vocal from San Diego California, Charles Miller saxophone vocals he wrote the famous song low Rider from Los Angeles California , and last but not least Lee Oscar harmonica from Sweden are the original members of the music band WAR Eric Burton was also with the band for a Short time he's featured on the song SPILL THE WINE

I think that's Harold Brown, the drummer, doing the lead on this one. Lonnie Jordan, the keyboard player did a lot of their leads---his tenor was very smooth---just right for their more melodic slow jams.
